If anyone is still looking for Craig Drake's red Spike edition, selling mine at cost + shipping. PM me!

Already framed Buffy and getting Moss's ghibli prints framed now and I think Howl's is enough red for this room lol

EDIT: GONE

Apologies for interrupting your regularly scheduled program and for the image spam!

Anyway, I thought I’d get around to making a post about the Aria Poster Project.

First, here is a list of people that I have spoken to who are interested in this project. If you are interested in being added to the list, or if I have listed you incorrectly, please let me know:

firehawk12
darkblade77
cajunator
Mr.Jeff
Mockingbird
Haly
AmethystEnd
umbra
ZachDeKoromaru
Lambtron
Chariot
MikeHattsu
Theonik
wonzo
SDBurton
Mokoi
Scrooge McDuck
omlet
Kurt (who is not on GAF).

We managed to hit the 15-person target that Mockingbird suggested, so I’m happy about that.

So onto the next step – getting the commission. Mockingbird has been using hebitsukai for his anime commissions, and you can see his samples here: http://hebi.soragoto.net/#illust
His Paprika poster is on the first page of this thread, but here it is for reference:
realwebverpaprika_title_zpsf3ee6caa.jpg
Given that Mockingbird is already in contact with them, it would be easiest to use them as the artist of the poster. But I also did some searching on Pixiv to both find some potential samples to illustrate what I might want a poster to look like and to perhaps for alternative artists for the commission.

When I first thought of this project, in my head it would be a wide-angle shot with the characters enveloped by some aspect of Neo Venezia. I found an artist that almost perfectly captures the scale of wonder that the anime evokes.

From artist “N” - http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=6120611
They don’t really have contact info on Pixiv though, so I have no idea how easy or hard it would be to get in touch with them.

But there are some other examples I found as well:
From artist 優子さん~@仕事募集中 - http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?id=4906112

From artist 雨音:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=41270013

From artistクロレッツ:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=42355094

From artist Dej:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=39126873

That said, I know that the characters are also the stars of the show as well, so I wouldn’t mind a mid-angle shot with all three (or six, or nine if you count the cats…) as well. Here are some random samples of that type of art:

From artist arceonn:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=41426093

From artist aiha-deko:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=31533882

The final kind would be a close up of the characters. I can see the appeal of this as well, because it would give you more detail of the characters. Here’s a random sample:
From artist薰衣吓跑学妹30年(战毕设中):
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=34713668
This artist states they’re not doing commissions at the moment though.

Here’s one that is an x-factor that I just love because it captures episode 7 (“In That Gently Passing Time…”) of Aria: The Origination perfectly.
From artist 魂合 環:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=32658057
I love it because it’s both claustrophobic and also evokes infinite possibilities. It’s a reminder of how a chance meeting with a cat could change Alicia’s life and open up a whole new outlook on life for her. But I know that this is just a “me” thing!

Anyway, whether we end up using hebitsukai or not, if nothing else we should have an idea of what we’d like in order to give the eventual artist an idea of what we’d like their interpretation of the world to be based on.

If you guys have any other artists that you’d like to consider or any other thoughts, please chime in.

For Mockingbird - If there’s anything I’m just completely missing, feel free to point it out, because I’m very much winging this as best as I can. lol

Just want to add that for Hebitsukai's Paprika print -- this was made to be a screenprint. With 15 people pnm the Aria we'll most likely be going for a giclee to make it cost-effective as a screenprint would end up being pricey. By making it a giclee we can tell the artist to free illustrate in any style he wants and use as many colors as he wants as well. With screenprinting but there are certain parameters that should be considered in order to create the best print. With that said, when you do a screenprint, it's possible to do more when it comes to printing -- such as use of metallics, glow-in-the-dark ink, neon colors, iridescent inks, a wide variety of paper types and choices, etc. Plus it feels very different. Also keep in mind the bigger the size the higher the cost.

Here are some more examples of Hebitsukai's work -- which shows his range as an illustrator yet you can still see his sort of style:

Also for the artists, it's best if we choose an illustrator who is already familiar with Aria, so the ones firehawk has chosen works. I haven't asked if Hebitsukai is familiar with it yet -- actually. I'm down with whoever you guys are into. I've still yet to see the series, I'm just supporting the commission. It better not suck, firehawk!

MB, is there a time period for how long the remaining Metal Gears are up for? Or is it once all of them are accounted for?
Just a little confused of how the process is set.

Hey. Sorry it took a bit to reply to this. I haven't actually counted and inspected the posters yet. I was behind on some stuff.

As for this yeah, my post won't be edited until they are all accounted for. At this point I don't think they all are. So if you send over a pm your chances are likely 100%, unless the number of prints come in at around 80 -- which I don't believe is the case. I'll know everything tonite.

Meeting up with Ash tomorrow to get it signed. If you want to do a local pick up tomorrow you can in North San-Diego and I guess in the San Fernando Valley you can do a pick up as well.

Then the G1988 show next sat you can do a pick up as well, followed by Smash Bros. Invitational and E3.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
You spent a lot of time trawling pixiv, firehawk, but how did you not think to reference actual paintings and photoes of La Serenissima Venezia?

For a by-the-books gondola/river/city shot, I like this one:
venice.jpg

I also like the "claustrophobic" theme, and I think you can achieve a similar effect with a vertical shot of one of the bridges.

I was thinking more of the overall composition/framing of the piece and just assumed that Venice would just happen somewhere. lol
I didn't think of whether or not there were any specific landmarks to throw in other than, of course, the fictional one of the Aria company HQ.

Thanks for the additional info! And it doesn't suck. lol
You can watch the whole series on Youtube, officially licensed, if you so desire!

(The licensing is weird though, I'm not sure which countries it is available in.)

If you're an international pre-paid metal gear solid buyer you should've received either an invoice or a pm from me. If you did not, please let me know. Thanks!

How much does FramingDevil usually charge you guys? They do such a nice job, everything I've seen of them looks superb.

Bottleneck Moments show is up http://www.bottleneckgallery.com/collections/moments-lost

If for some reason anyone has a Raid71 Mead Street they would like to sell I'm looking looks like they sold out last night. Hope he has some AP's.

Raid should have some APs but not sure when he is throwing them up.

Also anyone who bought anything from the blade runner show, PM me your order number and i'll make sure to add an extra goodie.

Hey guys in the US, what the heck kind of shipping method do you use to send prints out internationally?

Every quote I seem to be getting is $40+ for a single yazoo shipping tube.

USPS First Class International. Shipping prices for me have ranged from $18 to $30.

I didn't think it would be eligible since most of the tubes are over the requirements:

Are you shipping something where the shortest length is 36"?

Posters measured at 24"x36" are rolled into a tube where the length is 30" and the width is usually 3".

I was, but I couldn't spare time for the drive down to San Diego yesterday. I spent Saturday playing X-Wing and had a lot of stuff to get done yesterday before E3 madness kicks in late this week

Yeah man E3 should be fun for you looking forward to seeing what you guys have in store for us.
