1/28/2008 Raw Preview said:
PHILADELPHIA – John Cena’ shocking return – and even more stunning win – at the Royal Rumble Match Sunday night left our fans and other Superstars reeling. The former WWE Champion was the last person anyone had expected to see.

When Randy Orton helped put Cena out with a torn pectoral tendon in late September and effectively ended his WWE Championship reign, doctors predicted that he would be out for up to a year. Now, just four months later, he's back and has earned an opportunity at a World Championship at WrestleMania in Orlando, Fla. What does Cena have to say about his return and Rumble win? He will kick off Raw tonight, when it emanates from the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia.

Cena's victory Sunday night defied the expectations of doctors and all doubters. He looked into the eyes of his final opponents in the Rumble, Triple H and Batista, and said, "Come and get some." Cena sent a clear and convincing message: “The Champ” is back and he’s heading to WrestleMania. Videos: Cena's Road to Recovery

Sunday marked the first time Cena has won the 30-man Royal Rumble. But his victory wasn’t about a milestone; it was about the beginning of his road to redemption. Cena couldn’t help grinning as he soaked the cheers of his adoring fans.

As the New York faithful chanted his name, Cena's smile widened. But none of the World Champions in WWE were smiling, especially Orton, the man who put him out. Cena now has earned the right to face any World Champion in WWE in the main event at WrestleMania XXIV. Does he want to take back the title he never lost in the ring and get the ultimate revenge on Orton on the grandest stage of them all? Maybe we'll find out tonight on Raw.

Update - March 29.08
Okay because of the match with Dammit and Lashley i gave Lashley the Advance but because the Rock was no longer able to compete i am replacing Dammit and he is now using Umaga.

Well, let's take our first steps down the road. May there be some rather good wrestling and some compelling storylines along the way.

For the love of God, DO NOT STOP HARDY'S PUSH JUST BECAUSE CENA IS BACK!

If Cena gets pushed down our throats like he was before he got injured then the road is going to be cut short for me. However, if they show him fighting for the title, and cut the Superman side of his gimmick down a bit I think I can stand it. Furthermore, if Jeff still gets a look in then I will actually be happy.

That's my BIGGEST gripe with him, is the way he's booked as basically god.

I totally agree.

He's like another hogan. At least The Rock, Austin, Undertaker would loose the title once in a while.. and not be in the title picture for a couple of months. The way they oversell him, it sounds like desperation, like they didn't have any other wrestler who could draw crowds.

I don't know. I think the Orton/Hardy match accomplished the one thing it needed to and that was make Jeff a legit main event contender. Now we just need to see how the WWE keeps the momentum up.

DarkJediKnight said:
So right now, it's not if Cena will win the title at Wrestlemania, but which one. :lol

The worst possible booking choice the WWE could make right now would be for Cena to go to Smackdown and feud with Edge and Triple H to feud with Orton. Those are the two most played out feuds they have and it would drain any type of excitement for Mania.

Thoughts on the Royal Rumble.

Hate to say it, but way to go WWE. You've finally put something in your product that shocked the audience. Overall, the Rumble from what I can tell sounded like an amazing show and I'm probably going to pick up a repeat showing of it.

The big surprise of Cena winning, while I have mixed feelings about it, surprised probably every damn fan in the building and watching. Everyone thought Cena wouldn't be back for Wrestlemania, and bam, he's right back in the title hunt. I agree, if he's booked like Superman, then Cenamania will suck ass yet again. Yet another good idea since neither the Undertaker or Triple H won the Rumble is to either have:

Cena go for Edge's title. Cena vs. Edge was probably the best feud Cena's had for the title. Edge being part of it made it entertaining by itself, and while it's been done before, I just felt like Cena's Superman angle totally kept this from really getting off the ground. As a result, have Edge fight Cena, and have Edge go over. I don't expect WWE to do this, but if they do, Cena getting it back at the next PPV wouldn't be bad. Hey, they've had a heel go over at Wrestlemania before, and this would be electric.

Cena fight Orton, but have Triple H win some sort of match that gives him a shot at the title for a Triple Threat, and then have Triple H win spectacularly by going heel in some manner. Triple H is overbooked for that top spot, but he's a fucking spectacular heel, and now that Cena's back, I think Triple H going heel would be justified, plus the fucking heat from defeating a just returning Cena would be fucking phenomenal. Then, that could set up a HHH-Cena feud that we really didn't get to see a lot of in the build-up to WM 22. It wouldn't be hard to write in that Cena had ring rust for Wrestlemania, and HHH could play it off that his winning the Rumble was a fluke, and the fact that he was the freshest wrestler and was the #30 entrant were the only reasons he won.

As for Jeff Hardy, he's a shoe-in for Money In The Bank. Kennedy would probably be my second choice, but WWE would have to be fucking retarded to stop pushing Hardy. He's ridiculously over, and down the road I wouldn't be surprised to see him as WWE champion for a few months.

I have no problem with Cena being booked as God, even though he never was. They just did the standard heel/face formula: Cena gets beat up on TV, wins on PPV.

A two year title reign being booked as the unstoppable uber-wrassler isn't being boked as a "god"? Bullshit.

the only way he lost a match was by being "outsmarted". It has a nice way of killing a fued quickly when you ALWAYS win.

I used to be a huge wrestling fan, but then it began to bore me to tears. There needs to be a huge shake-up of some sort. I think the talent is there, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired.

And down went Edge, Umaga, Khali, HBK, Lashley, among others.

I don't care if he's champ. Just not for two years.

Isn't that how the heel is supposed to win? And did you notice how for every person Cena has had a feud with, Edge, Umaga, Khali, HBK, Lashley, Angle, Jericho, Orton, et al did not come out worse? Unlike, say, HHH, where in the past two years he berried the Spirit Squad, Umaga, Booker, and we going to berry Orton and Edge before he got hurt?

Cena is THE guy for the next 10 years. He is being booked as THE guy. Its better than TNA where everyone is a midcard comedy act except for Awesome Kong.

It's shit now. My interests have waned. I was glued to the set in the late 90s. I think what killed WWE was the demise of WCW. No competition = bland production.

TNA is crap, with dumb characters and even worse production. It's as if instant replay is banned on TNA, despite some of the cool moves in X division matches.

Christian had one match with Cena and was moved to Smackdown where is was berried by no fault of Cena. Jericho was leaving anyway. Umaga's matches had Cena win with a fluke roll-up, and then TWO CHOKINGS WITH THE RING ROPES. Seriously. The Lashley feud is what killed Umaga. Angle was universally loved when he was moved to Smackdown after Batista got injured and then got fired because he's a drug addict and crippled. Lashley at the GAB was used to pop a buyrate for the first post-Benoit PPV, and it did. He was working injured anyway. Khali became world heavyweight champion a month after his feud with Cena. These are not burials. I thought smarks liked clean wins anyway.

Ok, we get it. You're a shameless Cena defender.

I just don't like the guy or his style. No one ever looks better when they come out of a feud with "superman". IMO, he's just as bad as HHH.

It's not his fault though... he's booked that way.

weren't the ratings like no different with Cena gone? :lol

I guess he really sells t-shirts to the kiddies for him to be booked like that.

I see that there is a match tonight between HHH and a partner of his choice vs. Umaga and Snitsky. WHY. THE. FUCK. DO. I. KEEP. BEING. SHOWN. SHITTY. FUCKING. SNITSKY. MATCHES.?

They are trying to push Snitsky as this threat.

Unfortunately, the fans will never forget the foot fetish gimmick. Ever.

GIVE UP WWE.

exactly, that will always just stick with him.

Cena coming back right now is great for the business, and I am utterly shocked they pulled the surprise off.

I think there's also some great thoughts in here. It doesn't sound like any of the true wrestling fans are upset that he's back, just the possibility of him being given another reign like he was for the last two years. I can get behind that. I don't want to see him go after Edge for the WHC title though. RAW is the WWE's flagship show and Cena needs to be on there. Now moving Orton back to SD and bringing Edge back to RAW>.. there's something I can get behind. Even better yet, send Orton (now that he's a legit star) back over to SD as the WHC holder/contender, and bring Taker to RAW to hunt with Cena, Trips, and Hardy. My god, that would be an amazing title picture.

Anyway, tonight's RAW won't be as important as the next two weeks or so afterwards. Tonight there's going to be a promo.. probably not even any action by him. I'm guessing next week also with very light action. He probably came back the earliest he possibly could and will be on a super light schedule for a little while. But we should get an idea on the direction they go with him over the next 2-3 weeks.

Oh, I also agree that it would be utterly retarded to kill Hardy's push as a main eventer because of this. JR isn't lying when he says Hardy at this point receives an all-out rockstar-like ovation at his entrance, and deservedly so. Just for his spot two weeks ago alone he deserves every ounce of glory he's gotten. Hopefully WWE uses him for more than just a hook to hang the IC title on every once in a while. Keep his talking to a minimum (while keeping him working on it) and keep him throwing out the one big spot every other week or so and at the very least he could easily hit the status of an Edge or Orton, and definitely above Batista, Rey, etc.

this is deceiving though, because Cena was never really "gone". It was always known that he would be back as soon as possible. It would be more genuine had he actually retired or something and ratings went up or down. No ones going to start or stop watching a program because one wrestler out of 40+ is going to be out for less than a year.

That's not even right.

Chrisitian became a main eventer because of his feud with Cena. He went to Smackdown and his push was ended.

Jericho was on his way out when he feuded with Cena anyhow.

Umaga can still be considered a threat when they need him to be. I blame poor WWE booking for his condition now. His semi-face turn than heel turn was dumb.

Lashley got injured and then quit/fired. How is that even Cena's fault?

Angle was/still a main eventer. Hell he went on to WIN the title after feuding with Cena and main eventing Wrestlemania.

Khali was crap before he feuded with Cena and afterwards as well.

Argh that would be awful in all honesty.
Taker is to smackdown what Triple H is to Raw at this point really.
They are the only really established stars who have remained on one brand during this whole brand split thing. Okay Taker was on Raw as was the Game on Smackdown at the start but once it got stabilized they haven't moved.

And in all honesty moving Taker would kill the SD main event scene. Batista has feuded with everyone twice and isn't that much of a personality.

Raw is already crowded at the top with Jericho and HBK in a need to go basis. Triple H and Cena as the main faces and Hardy in the waiting now.

Does BradVanDam ever keep a conversation going or just spit out random phrases every now and then that are vastly different for the last then not respond to them?

"why is TNA in this thread"

"Hey lets talk about TNA in this thread"

"Hey lets talk about UFC now"

Trading Undertaker for HHH would be great. But that's just my thoughts.

I would love if they turned him heel (although then everyone that hates him would cheer for him as heel Cena is actually interesting).

The sad thing is, they'd let Cena win if it actually happened.

On RAW.

But this is the typical Orton FUCK NO ASSHOLE response.
