There's the headline I've been waiting for this past year. Up until now with dread and/or eye rolling exasperation. The "news" has almost come out a couple of times. Each was preceded by an ominous email from my agent—reporters have been asking for statements regarding the "Andy Wachowski gender transition" story they were about to publish. In response to this threatened public outing against my will, I had a prepared a statement that was one part piss, one part vinegar and 12 parts gasoline.

It had a lot of politically relevant insights regarding the dangers of outing trans people, and the statistical horrors of transgender suicide and murder rates. Not to mention a slightly sarcastic wrap-up that "revealed" my father had injected praying mantis blood into his paternal ball-sac before conceiving each of his children to produce a brood of super women, hellbent on female domination. Okay, mega sarcastic.

After he had given me his card, and I closed the door it began to dawn on me where I had heard of the Daily Mail. It was the "news" organization that had played a huge part in the national public outing of Lucy Meadows, an elementary school teacher and trans woman in the UK. An editorial in the "not-a-tabloid" demonized her as a damaging influence on the children's delicate innocence and summarized "he's not only trapped in the wrong body, he's in the wrong job." The reason I knew about her wasn't because she was transgender it was because three months after the Daily Mail article came out, Lucy committed suicide.

And now here they were, at my front door, almost as if to say—

"There's another one! Let's drag 'em out in the open so we can all have a look!"

I am one of the lucky ones. Having the support of my family and the means to afford doctors and therapists has given me the chance to actually survive this process. Transgender people without support, means and privilege do not have this luxury. And many do not survive. In 2015, the transgender murder rate hit an all-time high in this country. A horrifying disproportionate number of the victims were trans women of color. These are only the recorded homicides so, since trans people do not all fit in the tidy gender binary statistics of murder rates, it means the actual numbers are higher.

At least she doesn't have to hide anymore, but the way she was forced to come out awful. Fuck the Daily Mail.

Good for her.

I wonder how rare it is for two siblings to be trans in a family.

Also Fuck The Daily Mail.

I think it's amazing how inaccurate the term "Wachowski Brothers" turned out to be.

Maybe an inappropriate thread to ask this but how was their Netflix show? Haven't really heard much about it

I'm glad they can live however they like. It doesn't matter what they are as long as they keep producing great entertainment. The Matrix remains my favourite film of all time. And Speed Racer is pretty up there for me as well.

I fear Jupiter Ascending was a misstep that will cost them future Studio support, but hope that one day they'll be able to do another film. I think Sense8 isn't perfect but pretty well done and continue to look forward to the next season of that as well.

Good, not great. But it has the potential to be.

Pretty good, with some great moments sprinkled throughout. I'm hoping they can iron out the kinks in season two so it will be really great.

Good for her. Pretty fascinating stuff. What percentage of the population is believed to be transgendered (I'd imagine there's a MASSIVE gulf between actualities and what's disclosed), and what are the chances of two siblings both being transgendered?

Actualy it is not that rare.... I would guess that since a "bug" in the womb is the most likely cause of trans people than if it "bugged" once it is more likely to "bug" again.

But then again I sound like my grandma saying that once you had a girl you have more chance of having a girl again =P

Best show of last year, and after only one season has firmly cemented itself in the GOAT tier right next to Twin Peaks. Anyone who says otherwise is a dirty stinky unwashed liar.

Yup. I enjoyed way more than Daredevil. It's a bold show and you gotta be ready for anything.

So many different thoughts on this thread. List form it is:

* Two brothers both being transgender is weird and awesome. Only wish happiness for her.

* Fuck the Daily Mail.

* Sense8 was good, with flaws. Beautifully shot, unique premise, soulfully character driven. It was easily my favorite Netflix show of 2015.

By anything you mean almost exclusively social commentary about sexuality and identity? Because I watched an episode and a half and it was basically force feeding you that stuff, to the point where I don't even remember what was actually going on.

Hopefully the Wachowski sisters can make something to surpass the best of the brothers. That sounds so funny saying

Yup, you sure gave it a chance

Probably because the first few episodes only establish the characters and the plot doesn't start advancing until Episode 3-4. Which is perfectly acceptable from a show that dorps all at once IMO.

Man, that the Daily Mail even continues to out people after that is beyond fucked up.

Nah. It was much more then that. Love, passion, empathy, beautiful locations, nice action, and I can't remember when I adored a cast more. It's sloppy and neven, but man when it works it FUCKING WORKS.

If ep 4 doesn't move you then stop watching. It's not for you.

Damn, dude came to her house?? Holy shit.

A woman I work with lost her son in Afghanistan, a week or so after they came home to find Daily Mail reporters lounging about in their back garden, on their garden furniture, waiting for them to return.

Nothing surprises me about how scummy DM can be.

Anyway, congrats to Lilly. I hope she can lead a happy life and that her and her sisters profile as transgender women can help make our world more tolerant and leave fewer (or preferably no) transgender people in a situation where they are vulnerable and unsupported.

I'm curious about this as well. Honestly I'm surprised it took so long for her after her sister came out as Trans. Best if luck to her, and yeah Fuck The Daily Mail, that's awful.

Wachowski Brothers -> Wachowski's -> Wachowski Sisters

Interesting that they would both turn out to be transsexuals.

I have a theory that as human beings we tend to have only one event in our entire lives that we can truly call creative, and I use the Wachowski brothers as an example. I wonder if the Wachowski sisters can break the mold?

Haven't had that problem with hundreds of shows but clearly it's my fault.

While I agree, there was very little in terms of plot in the first 2 episodes (I just double checked, I finished episode 2. It seemed mostly to be a narrative about sexual and gender identity, at least that's all I can remember about it. I think it involved people being connected? Not sure.

I might try just that. I was really impressed by some of the scenes, I think I remember the intro scene being almost Koyaanisqatsi esque panning between different levels of civilized societies, and having a lot of nice establishing shots of nature, but once the show started I was pretty bored.

Eh, we're all on our own schedules for these things. And she was out to the people in her life that mattered from what she says, so there wasn't really any rush.
