I know it's early days but I'm not sure why this isn't a bigger deal. I hate that an athlete from the 70s is somehow more relevant and newsworthy than the director(s) of arguably the most influential movie of the last 20 years.

Good for her for being able to be honest with herself and the public at large.

As always I hope the Daily Fail burns in a tire fire.

One is, sadly, more culturally relevant as an icon.

It's a tough road as far as I understand, so I'm glad that they both have such a wonderful support group. Wachowski sisters sounds pretty great.

Regarding Sense8, it was good... maybe not great, but good. The first few episodes are maybe a bit preachy, but it's not like there is a lot out there being preachy about trans lives, so I think it was due. Overall, the dialogue has ups and downs, and there are a few things I don't understand about how the powers are supposed to work, but the very unique concept and the lets-not-take-ourselves-too-seriously approach helped overcome those issues.

It's hard to open up, but I think throughout the past year it's been at least a little bit easier and more accepting for others to not lash out an make and incredibly big deal about someone else's business. Caitlyn Jenner went all in, had a long interview announcing the transition, and is just in general in more of the spotlight. The Wachoski's are very private people.

Honestly, a big part of this is that the Wachiwskis are fairly private whereas Cait seems to just want tons and tons of attention.

Good for her.

Fuck the Daily Mail, as always.

Bring on Sense8: Season 2.

Good for her! The Wachowski Sisters has a great ring to it.

And fuck the Daily Mail for knowingly engaging in a practice that puts trans individuals at an elevated risk of violent death or suicide. Human scum.

Cait Jenner has always been the face of her brand and visible to the public. Being seen succeeding has always been her job both now and before. The Wachowskis are private and their job was behind the scenes.

VERY! I remember when Matrix came out it only added to the mystic because they wouldn't do press. All anyone knew was they are from Chicago. Of course this was before the social media boom.

Lana mentioned that when they were gearing up for Cloud Atlas, the studio said they either had to do press or the studios wouldn't make the movie at all. They elected to walk away from the project, at which point the studio caved and said they don't have to do press.

One came out to the Windy City Times, the other came out in a Vanity Fair exposé with the promise of a reality television program.

How curious that both siblings turned out to be trans.

I don't really have much else to add. I hope they remember how to make a good movie one of these days.

I have a theory that as human beings we tend to have only one event in our entire lives that we can truly call creative, and I use the Wachowski brothers as an example. I wonder if the Wachowski sisters can break the mold?

You can complain whatever you want about sense8 ... but this series is RIDICULOUSLY creative, both in idea and execution.
The logistics of shooting a conversation that is happening in two completly diferent places in the world is INSANE and it happens like 4 times each episode

Wow what a coincidence that is super cool good for them

I wonder if she had told Lana before Lana came out or if she told her after

I guess so. Just bitter that such a conservative tool is the self-appointed ambassador for the trans community.

Because said athlete has been a part of recent pop culture since 2007. The Wachowskis haven't had a film that resonated with the general US population since 1999. Yeah the second and third films of trilogy did well but they're nowhere near as loved as the first. Everything after bombed hard.

The sisters are also nowhere near as vocal as Jenner. There's no conspiracy here, people fade from the public eye. If one of them were on TMZ every week this would be different.

Are they twins by any chance? Wouldn't be terribly unusual if that's the case.

Holy shit. Have there been sibling studies on transgender identity?
It's called Gender dysphoria or gender identity disorder (GID), not transgender identity.

And no major sibling GID/ Gender Dysphoria studies at least that I know with adults.

What I most what to know about (not that it's my business) is how each of them discovered their trans identity. Was it all one person at once, then all the other person? Or was one slightly farther along in the transition than the other, and gave advice and counsel to the one not as far along? Etc.

I just went to the wiki and I was right.. I've never seen any of their shows or films. Still, I know that Speed Racer was insane

Love almost everything they've done, though I still need to watch through Sense8 (first episode was good, but I got distracted by other shows). Haven't seen Speed Racer yet, either. Other than that The Matrix defined my teens and is still one of my favorite trilogies ever, and Cloud Atlas is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. Can't wait to see what they do next. No matter what gender they are or I think they are or anything, they're amazing artists just the same.

Really sucks Lilly couldn't come out on her own terms. Fuck the Daily Mail.

Yeah this would be kind of fascinating to hear about, but as you said it's obviously none of our business and she can divulge whatever she feels like divulging or nothing at all.

Wish her luck.

Actualy it is not that rare.... I would guess that since a "bug" in the womb is the most likely cause of trans people than if it "bugged" once it is more likely to "bug" again.

But then again I sound like my grandma saying that once you had a girl you have more chance of having a girl again =P
One of the things I've heard can happen is that the amount of testosterone may be higher/lower than normal, affecting finger digit development (longer ring finger for higher testosterone, longer index if lower), and that's apparently dictated by the baby, not the mother. So I'd think it's less the womb and more the genetics involved, which may or may not come from the mother's side. Which probably would make it more likely for gay/trans siblings.

I suppose a non-binary gender identity could be called a "transgender identity" but that's more under the umbrella of genderqueer or... non-binary gender identity!

Huh, interesting. Never heard of two siblings being transgender before, that must be unusual.

Good for her. Not a fan of their films at all, but "the Wachowski Sisters" has a nice ring to it!

Shitty that she was coerced and forced into outing herself, but I'm really glad Lilly has a group of loving and supportive friends and family to surround herself with. Like she said in her statement, a LOT of trans folk don't have that luxury.

While I agree, there was very little in terms of plot in the first 2 episodes (I just double checked, I finished episode 2. It seemed mostly to be a narrative about sexual and gender identity, at least that's all I can remember about it. I think it involved people being connected? Not sure.

The show has 8 leads. It establishes them, their problems and personalities and gives you a vague sense of their psychic link. Then it starts telling the story, and picks up it's pace dramatically.

If anyone watched the first few and then dropped it, I'd urge you to revisit it.

I was gonna say, old news by a few years, but both of them are trans? Woah. Sucks a lot to be outed though
