* sisters
As for the "how", I would guess it's that both have suffered from gender dysphoria and both decided to fix it by transitioning.
If you mean "how" can two siblings suffer from the same condition, well, I don't know, why not? I admit it has to be unusual since it's fairly rare to begin with, but I don't see why it'd be so baffling.
Oh God, the fucking Mail. It's not going to die off anytime soon either because it has the most popular English language newspaper website in the world. And that's on you America, it's not just a British problem anymore. Stop clicking those articles.
Good on her. Every person that comes out publically is chipping away a few bits from the barrier. It's a brave thing to do and must feel really self affirming to have the confidence to do it.
One day this won't even be news.
Also, fuck the Mail. Bunch of deluded, self-righteous bigots
I'm curious about this as well. Honestly I'm surprised it took so long for her after her sister came out as Trans. Best if luck to her, and yeah Fuck The Daily Mail, that's awful.
Im no expert in the topic, but i think it's pretty safe to say that coming into terms with your gender identity is an experience that will take a different amount of time for different people, it's not like she magically knew once her sister did.
One, awesome she came out. Two, crazy odds both siblings were born trans. Three what the fuck is wrong with you Daily Mail. Four, The Matrix is awesome. Five, uhh...I heard Speed Racer is pretty awesome too?

It would be funny if Lilly had been looking into transitioning for years and years and one day at work or something Lilly turns and Lana's like "guess what?"
Interesting to think of the themes in The Matrix now in light of this, like the feeling that something isn't quite right with reality, a deeper truth about who you really are.
The One/Neo and Agent Smith have gained greater depth and meaning as well as a lot of the symbolism happening:
The last letters that we
visually "pass through" as we emerge from The Real World into The Matrix during the voice over phone call at the end of The Matrix are the letters "M" and "F" (Male and Female); the middle ground between 0 and 1; between binary genders.
Or not...
Good for Lilly! Happy that she has transitioned, but not happy that she couldn't announce it on her terms.
But nonetheless, it's good that they both can live as comfortably with themselves as they hopefully can be. It imagine it couldn't be easy to transition but they are fortunate to have the supportive people that they do around them.
This is hopefully a step towards a better, happier, more accepting future for all people in this world.
I can't wait for Sense8 season 2 and whatever future projects they develop!
