We dont know each other but Ive followed you in OT and I felt like your opinions matched mine 95% of the time. I canT say that about most users.
I have a hard time deciding if I should stay or leave. Tell me, what you planning to do, stay, or leave?

Twelve+ year poster here... figured I'd give my two cents.
As a poster in the 35-40 age range, I've seen a lot in my days of community bulletin boards and forums - both as a poster and a moderator at other locations. I was a member of a thriving online community twenty damn years ago that had its own exodus and things were never the same. I was even part of the moderation team that might have been negatively responsible for that, unfortunately. I was much younger. Fortunately I've learned a thing or two since.
I've seen online communities broken due to buy-outs, administrative egos going out of control, and just straight up closing due to funding issues or sinking irrelevancy. I've seen site owners in actual tears begging for money because they mismanaged things so poorly in the online spectrum that they found themselves not even being able to pay their rent any more. I've seen bitter jealousy turn to sabotage with forum posters joining together to actively burn someone's livelihood down for no other reason than 'revenge' for bannings or differing opinions. All of these places were not nearly as large as NeoGAF.
I've known seemingly good people in power positions that did scummy things. I've known people that had reputations for being scummy grow and change for the better. The internet is a big place, filled with literally every personality type and combination of types a person can probably imagine.
Communities grow, die, but sometimes they rise from the ashes. One of the forums I referenced above? It somehow crawled through its own controversies and still exists today. It's a shell of what it was, but it's still there. People I knew from twenty years ago are still there. They seem happy. It was the ownership and the handful of posters that weathered the storm that kept it alive. Tomorrow will always come on the internet... presumably.
I certainly don't think this is 'the end' of NeoGAF... not unless Tyler decides to kill it... but there is certainly a lingering change in the air. That was unavoidable.

Over the years I've put things together based on posts, just like any member big or small around here, but 'good', 'bad'... I don't know. I never presume to know, either. Out of opinions formed based on posts, I can really only be sure of two facts: I do know this is his site. Those in the trenches posting on a regular basis and the hard working mods keeping the trash out might make this place, but his name is above the door. I do know that he is a person with a certain amount of 'internet celebrity' fame/baggage (whichever one might perceive it) which puts him in a position of potential public scrutiny the majority of us could never relate to or understand. It comes with the territory. Oh, that is not an excuse for bad behavior or poor decisions by annnnnny stretch, but it should also be taken into consideration in discussion. I ask myself: "How would I react if a widely spread, nasty story about me came out that I heavily disputed... but the majority of the people didn't want to hear it based on stupid fucking mistakes I made when I was younger?" Sounds like a nightmare of a situation - and it's a harrowing trend I've seen popping up more and more in the realm of social media. The court of public opinion is a powerful thing and despite all of my desperate optimism in this pessimistic world right now, many situations on the internet make it very hard for me not to buy into the reality of 'Guilty Until Proven Innocent'.
For Tyler, that might be determined legally in time. If the situation is being misrepresented, he has the right to defend his reputation, as anyone would. Unfortunately for him, at least for the time being, the swift gavel of internet justice has already shattered the block. It's up to him - and the members of this community that decide to stay - to determine any potential survival of NeoGAF. What form that might take? Time will tell.
Godspeed to those that are leaving. Some of you will be truly missed. Good luck to those that stay. Try to keep this community healthy and just.

Wish everyone wasnt jumping ship just yet. Feels like a complicated chain of events that needs more details and time to judge. Enough to give me a reason to leave.
Evilore doesnt really come up on my radar much when I participate on the site nor do I give much of a thought to him. Grateful for him running it but very little do I interact/read input from him. Not saying Im putting my head in the sand but he feels like an outside entity that Im surprised people reacted so intensely since the site ran day by day on its mod team and its users.
The community has always been the foundation and I wouldve liked it if we fought for answers and reason here instead of what happened before the site buckled down. I understand everyone is upset and wants to stand up for their morals and youre entitled to leave to not be a part of it. Just seemed like it happened so very quick for what time people put into this site.
More couldve been done and still can. Time is ticking and more communication, more transparency is a good thing. The statement and direction isnt cutting it. OT should open soon but not be neutered. A good chunk of the base is OT only. On the other hand, with less moderators, who wants to moderate that section any given day or especially now? You need strong leadership and more interaction with the community.

A small statement and forum lock should have happened sooner. Besides all the crazyness, all I have to say is that year by year OT got darker. After the elections happened, I had to quit entirely for a while. The mod team got a bit crazy now and then too. I understand it can be a hard call on what should be bannable, but I also think in a way that, well....you can't please everyone. And that's what started happening. Slowly but surely we also became a certain kind of safe space, hoping no one would get offended. Politics is indeed an important part of our lives, and we have people here with the information, but maybe that could go in a separate place. I was there for the color guys, I was there for drunken christmas jingles, and damn it, I was there when headphones weren't plugged in. If the forums go back to when I could read stupid ass comments and get a few laughs in my day, then I'll stick around.

I understand you approach, you mean that the intention is also critizable, and actually you see the intention as a sexual aggresion. If you take this into a very different world is understandable, you can have the intention to make a terrorist attack but never did, you still are a terrorist.
I said this is dangerous because the law must be based on facts, and not for what not happens.
For example the admin of neogaf seems he never crossed the line, that means he never did nothing that the other person didn't want, but that doesn't mean that maybe he want to or no.
We must judge the people for the facts.
Based on that you can say the fact of entering a bath where a girl is there is sexual harrasment, then we can discuss.
I think that we can't throw a judgment for a situation that we don't know much details, the contexts is very important, if there's a conflict there a judge must be the one who will decide.

I must admit I never jump to conclusions too soon. Thats why I'm not condemning anyone over FB accusations, but I've read that post that went to the mods and thats absolutely handled poorly on Evi's part. Its lacking any form of self reflection, and it almost sounds like a Tarantino script. What people want to see is vulnerability and honesty.
If I was a mod, and I would get that, I dunno what I would've done. On the other hand, if its true what he says then why should he take the fall? Its difficult.

Still, even if they were true, or were as brutally terrible to justify the reaction (which they are not, IMO) I don't buy all this act. This looks like some old grudge going on more than anything else. I feel like someone saw the opportunity to give a coup and and steal people off this forum, create a new place that will grant them power and, hopefully for them, money. The rest is just The Pitchforkmen, which were fostered around here for some years now (oh, the irony!), joining the riot and marching with them.

According to the Truant Pixel Twitter, he agreed to help with the transition and then immediately asked for a ban.
I'm not going to call them a liar or anything. It would be weird for him to still be a mod here while also taking down the GAF themes from PSN.

It isn't a "purity test." It's a very short term solution to getting people in while also trying to keep trolls out. It's a logical decision.
There are literally people on Voat and 4chan compiling the names of people in the Discord to try and harass them.

First post since this hoopla went down and this is just... bad man... I was willing to give evilore the benefit of the doubt, but this alongside with the spain stuff just paints a bad light on him..
I just find it incredible how in less than a week a number of members and mods decided to abandon ship and create a new forum before getting to the bottom of this case.
Understandably some Mods/Admins became victims of heavy online harassment and just didn't feel like it was worth going through. But for those who immediately decided to believe one side over the other without substantial evidence... that's disappointing.
I'll stick around and continue to get my gaming related news from here, while also keeping an eye out for any updates on the allegations against Evilore.
These things are never straightforward.
