You're not going to be seeing CNN or BBC sources for those stories. Outlets like those aren't going to cover events that such a small fraction of their audience is going to know or care about.

To both posters, that's not what we're talking about here. She's accusing him of some pretty tame stuff, you don't become attached to someone because he flashed you. Have some perspective ffs, comparing this to rape is fucking preposterous.

I don't know if there inherently unreliable, most are usually done well after the fact, aka the hole weinstein thing. And they are not presumptively false, they are accusations only ATM. A Sexual assault victim, or a victim of any kind can call there local police and file a police report.

He actually did rhe best thing. She ended doing her own credibility in. If he would have brought those things up she would would have a chance to deny deny deny and he would be worse off for it.
 
Even if everything you say is true, the way you run the sight is horrible and has been for a while. This is going to be the last straw for a lot of people, regardless of whether they're willing to give you the benefit of the doubt or not.

I don't see any option for me to delete my account, so go ahead and ban me.
 
This whole situation is just... sad. Regardless of ones affiliation, to see such a strong community implode in this way is terrible. I think Gaf has been unique on the web in the last few years for fostering such a large community that it could in some way be broadly impactful, yet filled with prominent and generally respected personalities, and retaining a classic message board format. The depth of humor and insight was at times phenomenal; and that it still rose out of a forum that was at times anything but seemed telling of the continuing power of these structures. There's not many boards left formed in this classic style that are highly active anymore.

It's a shame it was all undone over one man's hubris. I suppose it should be an abject lesson in the costs of not living up to your own ideals or handling adversity with grace. Maybe the community will come back in some form, but it seems clear the place will never be the same.

I mean, there's pretty clear evidence of him being really fucking terrible at managing a videogame forum - but besides that.

Oh also the time he gleefully admitted to groping a woman at a bar, defending a child pornographer for no clear reason, and now standing accusations of sexual harassment.

Is he Trump? Of course not. But that's like saying you should tolerate your current apartment because it only has black mold, and isn't currently on fire.

We can all do better than him. Some are going to stick by him, and that's their decision. But you can't act like the people pushed to action are doing it with no reason.

Makes me realize how extreme the pendelum on OT had swung. I'm glad these people who are no different than my fake-news-believing-FoxNews-fanatic mother in law who doesn't take two seconds to research anything and is outraged by everything, are account suiciding. Neogaf OT needed some perspective and I hope we move back to how things were 5 or so years ago.

Again even if the girl's story is true, she was so traumatized by this that she slept with him, willingly, after the fact. Oh, and she's also an angry ex? Go figure

If you don't want to be part of a forum anymore, just leave. You don't require a ban.

What weird sense of satisfaction do you get from someone fulfilling your request to be banned?
 
Nope, that doesn't cut it Tyler and you know it. I've enjoyed GAF for my 13+yr stay but this is the end and I was never banned. GAF may have been a so-called left echo chamber, but that's actually what made it a breathe of fresh air online these days. The OT was 90% of why I visited the forum in the past few years and with that gone now.. there is no point returning. If this thread is any indication of the future of the forum, then it is already royally fucked up.

The fact that you are equating getting into a shower with someone "flashing" shows you're not really in a place to give an fair viewpoint on the topic.

Putting aside whether or not it is true, that is unquestionably not "tame."
 
Brah, here's the only piece of advice that matters and that can save you:

Do what John Cena never dared: it's time to do a full heel turn son.
 
This situation couldn't have been handled any worse.

-Allegations appear
-Try to hope it goes away, it doesn't.
-Mods walk out, still no explanation
-Silence
-Your first statement is from a journalist from an article where you attack your accuser.
-Don't announce to transfer the ownership
-Bring up gaf a day later with a skeleton mod crew when there would be a lot of modding needed.
-Open with an op with more hand waving of the situation.
-Even less transparent modding
-Banning of political/social discussions soon as you realise you can't profit from it anymore and have to court a different audience.

At any point you could have stopped and been WAY ahead of where you are now. Well done sir.
 
This was a master class in how not to handle sexual misconduct allegations. What I took from all of this is is how much you take this community for granted. And whatever you’re real reasons are for shutting down the OT, there is no reason for me to stay. I’m not one for debating sales figures or micro transactions. So thanks to those who made the OT something fun to pass the time. Hopefully Modbot has a fatal system error and dies and OT does become less aggressive in its hive mentality (mods and members).

If any has alternative OT forums to visit, post or PM me. Otherwise, thanks for the nearly 2 decades of laughs and Tom foolery.

A mere allegation, therefore, is not enough to support a guilty verdict. Unfair, is what that is. At the very least, we should wait for more evidence to surface before reaching conclusions. There is nothing appealing about GAF over any other game forum at this point. I absolutely appreciated this forum because it felt like a place where people felt games and art weren't more important than the people behind them and playing them. Only people sticking around are those relieved that OT is gone so they can focus on their gaming. Nice one ya wad.
 
As long as the mods aren't super strict like they are now, I am fine with Neogaf. We should be able to speak our mind without having to worry about getting banned.

Probably people from The Donald or other such place paid for someone or the woman in question to say this. It's always about money, they'll say anything for money, or to get famous for financial gain.
 
I stopped posting and left the forum after arguing with some former mods and prolific posters that would spend their days being outraged and try to get people banned if they didn't like their opinion or lost an argument.

It sucked all the fun out of everything really. I hope lessons were learned for both evilore and others so it doesn't have to get to this state again.

I can't speak for everyone but I just signed up to talk games and sometimes other forms of media and entertainment. Tons of people I disagree with but I never felt the need to report or ask for bans not even drop f bombs just because I didn't see eye to eye. But I did receive a lot. Having been admin on game servers I always viewed the role/job as that of a janitor and nothing more.

Will stay for now and see where it all goes.

Thanks for the taking the time to type that response and bringing everyone up to speed. GAF is important to a lot of people, and it's good to see that enough of you believe in it to keep it alive.

I hope the situation resolves itself and that the community is stronger for it.

The jury of public opinion seems swift and monstrous.
