Is it true that invites are banned on PM? Would love to get an invite over there. Not saying I am abandoning GAF, but would want to say hi to a lot of recognizable faces.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually impressed by how much is done already with so little time, especially considering the high amount of admins and mods and just those who were in the loop which is usually counter productive to any kind of a fast turnabout. The general roughness of the edges and the fact that the team seem to constantly step on its own toes doesn't diminish the success in any way. Hence why I've said that it's beautiful.

Now, you know what? I don't know if you're guilty of anything. I don't know if what was said to happen happened, and honestly, even if it did, I don't know what signals were or weren't sent, or what level of miscommunication happened. So I don't particularly like that you were summarily executed by mob. My guess is you're full of shit... but I know that's just a guess. I know I have no idea. And I won't execute you for it, just like I wouldn't execute Naughty Dog, even though it was so much fun for people here to leap to ridiculous conclusions based on a single tweet.

But you know what? You fostered an environment that summarily executes with no evidence. So while I hate it, and I'll -always- be on the side of 'wait for more information' regardless of the topic, I can't say I can't see the sick humor of it all. Some people need to learn by example, and if you're truly innocent of all charges, then I hope next time someone gets accused of something you support the presumption of innocence. This is not saying I don't think horrible things happen all the time - they do... my wife has been sexually harassed at work and I know how hard it is to come forward and rock the boat.

If you're guilty, then I hope you learn. Evolve. Grow. Become a better person. Everyone can change, even though some swear no one can.

If you're innocent, then also learn. Evolve. Grow. The culture of 'no proof needed' you fostered is sick... it flies in the face of everything our collective cultures have learned and fought for over the past few millennia. You reaped what you sowed, and it's either ironic, or horrifying, based on your guilt... which I can never know.

I'll probably get banned for this post. I don't think I said anything worth being banned for. In fact, I think this is a pretty fair assessment of both your actions, the accusations against you, and the general culture of this site. If you ban me, fine. If you don't, I'll still be here, posting, because, honestly, I don't judge a community on a single individual member. Heck, I don't judge -you- based on actions of a previous you, because I know people change over time.

People learn. People grow. People evolve. Maybe you have, maybe you haven't. Now it's time for you to do so, and in the process, evolve this site so it doesn't become an echo chamber of toxicity against anything deemed toxic.

Such a great post..my favorite in this entire thread. It's because of members like you I'm going to stick around. Guilty or not, Evil lore does not represent GAF - the community does. Obviously it's been damaged perhaps irreversibly, but enough good people remain.
Btw,my position on the controversy is very similar to yours. You are just much more eloquent than me translating thoughts into written words - thanks for saving me the trouble!

Seriously though public registrations are gonna be up at some point. They were open briefly earlier (in error) otherwise you need to be on discord and ask someone on there to let you in.
 
Seems like ALL registrations may be frozen right now? I'm not seeing a register link anymore; only log in. It was there before (but I didn't have the SECRET CODE).

For me, it's not so much sticking around but the hypocrisy on display that puts me off from moving.

Just like how people say in good conscious they don't want to support this site with Evilore around, I also don't like in conscious how people can become self admitted shills, protest with abominable images and overall, give up all rationale and reasoning before we even got the first statement from Evilore that whipped up this controversy.

And it's been like that ever since Neogaf came back online. I personally berate double standards coming from anyone. Because if i'm suppose to jump ship over a problem with one guy, why should I accept jumping to the next where a new set of problems exist?

I'm not saying one party is wholly innocent and that no further investigation/action shouldn't be taken. But it did feel like there was this gigantic "jump the gun" moment when it wasn't seriously put forward that neither Evilore or the accuser pressed charges.

I kind of tend to agree with this. Though I'll probably hang around both sites or a while. I can give the one one the benefit of the doubt, though that mod/admin list doesn't exactly give me the warm fuzzies. Not gonna kill me to use two forums. Could get by without either if I had to. It is what it is.

No I’m not. I was never in any community on here as I don’t game online (prefer single player) so wasn’t on discord, and I missed the open registrations.

To be honest for any gaming news I’d be fine just reading it.

I’ve been active recently on the forum as I’m sick and stuck at home. Otherwise I’m not a massive poster.

Yeah, they accidentally opened it up for everyone with all emails for like 10 mins and got 2k joins, including some obvious trolls.

To everyone asking for 'invites' – the 'invites' were only handed out to Discord peeps. Then, general registration opened up for about 10 minutes, but Gamergate-crew abused that, so the floodgates were closed. There aren't any more 'invites' so to speak (unless you were on Discord), but general registration (for people with paid e-mails) should open up sometime in the next few days. You'll have to be patient, but I hope to see you guys there. :)

You sound real bitter about this. I thought this split was a good thing for everyone involved? Especially the mods? Is it not now?

I think it's more about how difficult it is to join that is frustrating some. The whole Discord thing is....not a very good way to start. It locks out a lot of people. Then again, I understand they are trying to do it in waves to alleviate stress on the server.

Life is complicated. If you're going to distance yourself from everyone and everything that is imperfect you're going to have a rough time of it.

I disliked some of the choices Tyler appears to have made over the years in regards to running the site, but NeoGAF and all the good that has come out of it was/is ultimately here because he stepped up to make it happen when others failed. If the stories about his misconduct were irrefutable and the site wasn't already so socially progressive I would consider moving to someplace more welcoming to the masses, but they aren't and it is. The divisiveness that plagues American culture was on full display here on NeoGAF, no doubt amplified because of the anonymity and clearly identified by all the posts making extremist claims like "Fuck all cops" and "If you didn't vote Hillary you helped elect a Nazi." I mean, take a step back and think about that for just a minute. The forum was going to melt down sooner or later even without the harassment claim thrown at Tyler because the amount of moderation required to keep the forum somewhat civil (I use that term loosely) became an impossible task. Some of the people making those extremist remarks are now on the moderation team at that new forum, so while I wish them well I know they're going to be dealing with some of the same issues that were eating away at this forum.

That said, I'm hoping the OT section here gets opened up again relatively soon, preferably with absolutely all political discussion limited to a single thread so it isn't allowed to overwhelm every corner of the forum and without any preference given to one political party or another. It's impossible to discuss topics in good faith if you've forced those that disagree with you to leave/stay silent and if you want to understand - truly understand - you're going to need to talk to people that hold those different viewpoints. It became clear to some of you, even some of the older, more respectable members here, that you were never going to be able to get the answers you were looking for because you spent so much energy telling those people with different viewpoints to get lost.

The most successful communities will be those that are welcoming to people from all backgrounds - men, women, straight, gay, young, old, liberal, conservative and everything in between. NeoGAF, unfortunately, had become a giant "safe space" of sorts where certain demographics were allowed to espouse the kind of hatred and bigotry they claimed they were fighting without even realizing it. They wound up being some of the quickest to abandon ship this week and I won't miss them, but I do hope the inclusiveness this forum was once known for returns to its former glory somewhere down the line. I'm looking at this event as a self correction, another reset of sorts along the road of life. Obviously I'm not the only one that sees it that way, except unlike the others I'm not throwing in the towel here.

It is more that keeping the community together was cobbled together in a matter of hours. Had this entire situation gone down over a matter of more days, then the solutions would have been different

I don't really understand Discord, I've never used it. I'm excited about joining Reset and I hope I'm able to soon.

I don't think the post was entirely about how to get on the new site perse. Just subtly insulting them on the way out the door. I could understand specific instances, yes.

But once again the poster I quoted generalizes and characterizes the 'other side' as an enemy. Just not healthy in the long run. There are still people here I know and want to connect with, a community especially. I'm just saying.

I understand if people are frustrated with regisration though. Not my intent to sidestep that.
