I read the first two books and I barely remember anything about them which isn't a great sign but I'll be up for a TV series for sure.

Omg the Sean Astin casting I can't.

I'm really hoping this is good. I'm two episodes away from being caught up with Mad Men and I'm probably gonna jump into Hannibal but that's only two seasons (?) long so that definitely won't last me on it's own till next year lol.

I don't know if I trust GDT tho. This seems to be getting more hype based on it's technical merits rather than it's story, based on all the "I don't remember the books" responses.

Casting is pretty much top-notch, though I'll always wish for what could have been with John Hurt as Setrakian and Ron Perlman as Vaisily Fet (who GDT had in mind for the role as he was writing the series). Corey Stoll as Goodweather is spot-on. Lots of parallels between him and Peter Russo from House of cards.

This should be awesome. del Toro is great. I can't believe Cuse is doing this and Bates Motel at the same time. Won't there be some kind of conflict there?

Wasn't John Hurt going to be in this as Setrakian until he had to back out from a scheduling conflict? Doctor Who, I think. David Bradley is still top notch though, great casting.

I'm actually reading the third book now, and while I has some rocky moments overall it's still a god story. I can see it translating to TV pretty well.

Book spoiler:
He's Eph's assistant who sells him out to Eldritch Palmer. He's in the book but his role isn't major.

Ah, yeah. Thanks!

Looks like Bates Motel is a 10-episode show and The Strain is 13. Add them up and you get a typical season. So he'll still have a few months off. :D

Not going to read too much about the show, just gonna watch and see what's up. This one has been on my radar for a while so I have high hopes.

Really enjoyed the first book, the second book was good but didn't seem as engaging as the first, and the third is so tonally different from the others. Reading the third book, haven't finished it

Eager to check out the show.

Interesting thing is, the idea was originally pitched as an idea for television and when no one bit, GDT and Chuck Hogan just turned it into a series of novels. So the idea translates so well because it's always sort of revolved around the notion of being a 3-4 season TV show.

And yeah, Hurt was actually in the unseen pilot that GDT sent FX to greenlight the show in the first place, though I understand why we'll never see it since the casting change of a major character would be jarring.

I read the whole series and loved it. Creepy as hell. Really a different kind of Vampire. I wish this was on HBO or Showtime.

The problem is that the series' quality is a pure decline. The first book is great and sets a different world-view, interesting characters, etc.... the second is just blah, and the third is comically stupid.

Its essentially the trajectory that The Hunger Games trilogy took, but for adults. :-p

Why HBO or Showtime? FX is on a role with their drama's (more so than Showtime) if you mean in terms of censorship FX show just about anything in terms of violence (Fargo/SoA) but just lack strong language/nudity. I hope a UK network picks this up.

They can pull off most of the violence on FX just like they would on HBO.

I suppose we should thank The Walking Dead for being so big that this gets a chance now, even if WD is largely shit.

FX is a fine place for this. As has been previously stated, they can do pretty much anything HBO/Showtime can in terms of violence and gore, plus, they're starting to allow audible "fucks" (which is one of the few remaining words most cable channels won't touch) and they're also really pushing the boundaries when it comes to sex and nudity. (still no boobz or full frontal though)

A riend talked me about the books once ... I am kinda curious how they will portray the fully matured creatures

I've never been so shocked with FX's gore as with the latest season of Justified.

click, click...

That scene was just plain ogrish.

Looks like it will take a while for the series to start here ... anyone can send me a pic of a mature vampire if it exists already ?

wait .. what is happening in this scene ?

Just google image the strain. Beware of spoilers though, just in the first page there is a picture of the master.

The comics were cool, I'm interested in this. Curious to see if they will follow the later books.

I though book three was quite a bit better than two. The Fall kinda felt like a stepping stone between The Strain and The Night Eternal.

sundays? thats new

fx consistently churns out 2nd rate shows but there aint much on these days ill check it out

Could you hook me up with the details on where these first rate shows are currently airing?

The TV commercials for this show that I have seen have not been very clear. I got an email today advertising the book, and I saw a quote on the cover that says "A Vampire epic". That's how I discovered the show was about vampires.
