It took me 85 hours.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The biggest flaw I thought was the battle system, in that it lacked complexity/challenge, and just required a bit of grinding. Seriously, you can just use Yuri and Azure Edge the entire game. But, I thought that the story/skits were entertaining, and that the voice acting did a superb job bringing the characters to life.

Hero said:So because you can exploit Yuri's one move makes the entire battle system flawed? You should try playing as another character then. It makes it completely different.
Darkman M said:Erm? Battle system is probably the strongest point of the game, You want more challenge play on hard and collect of the fell arms, then try your luck at unknown.
teh_pwn said:I did play on hard.
Unknown isn't available for the first play through.
teh_pwn said:Maybe some sidequest has a challenge, but I don't see how it would change the fundamentals of the battle system. Just voicing my opinion, I didn't realize I was going to be raped from all directions by over-defensive fans. I'm out of this thread.
I hear this a lot... but I don't get it. If you grind, any RPG just requires button mashing. Play the game like me, underlevelled! It's a bitchteh_pwn said:Just beat the game.

I've never understood the thought process of people who make this complaint about any RPG.teh_pwn said:The biggest flaw I thought was the battle system, in that it lacked complexity/challenge, and just required a bit of grinding.

Goddamn, can't believe there's even MORE stuff in this battle systemkiryogi said:No actually, some moves have extra extensions to them. Try doing Judy's Moon Glare with A+B. Some of them don't trigger/activate until you've used them a set amount of times though.
Abyss had 'em too iirc. I think most Tales games do, but they're hard to pull off.mugwhump said:Goddamn, can't believe there's even MORE stuff in this battle system

Darkman M said:Fell arms work like in symphonia each monster you kill with the weapon it adds to the attack, so the weapon has the potential to be 9999 atk depending on how many enemy's you kill lol. As for Duke i ended up using an all-divide for the battle to ease cut the damage he was doing I also spammed OVL spells with rita, i used meteor storm but im sure any high level spell would work. When possible save life bottles by having estelle cast resurrection if she is alive.
donkey show said:The more kills a particular character accumulates, the stronger the fell arms is. The stats will never reflect an increase though, so you'll just have to guestimate who's killed the most in your party and go from there. It makes more sense to equip these weapons after a playthrough or two.
Secret Missions: Each boss has a Secret Mission attached to it. So far you could only have missed a total of one, against Zagi in the castle.Dr. Kitty Muffins said:I'm not even sure what questions I should be asking you all.
I do have one, however:
What are secret missions and what secrets could I have possibly missed? I just got to Halure.

For Tales games, you generally revisit every town after major events to trigger side-quests.Big-E said:Anyone know any good places to go get sidequests? Ah makes sense. I haven't tried them since I "cleared" so I will be checking it out now.My Arms Your Hearse said:The stats actually DO update to reflect how strong they are in this one. You also have to be on a "clear" file for them to work your first time through.
And the counter resets everytime you start a new game (like Abyss, unlike Symphonia), though you don't need to "unlock" them.
Brandon F said:The 'title achievement' is the most annoying shit.
I spent an hour grinding fatal strikes with stupid Estelle, have no idea how close I am(please be close!), but the thought of doing it with 5 other party members after her gives me chills.
Oh and mastering every recipe for every character is a big bowl of tedium.
Why are titles so worthless in this game anyway? COstume titles are one thing, but even Symphonia and Abyss(I think?) at least adjusted stats or bonuses confering them on the player...here worthless. One minor blemish on an otherwise awesome game.
You need to synth an item called Moon Selector. I'm not sure when it becomes available, though, sorry. Also, even then players 2-4 could end up screwed over, since it doesn't let you CHOOSE who you control, it just scrolls through the characters until whoever you want is in the first slot (so if it's Yuri, Repede, Rita, Estelle and you use the Moon Selector once, it will be Repede, Rita, Estelle, Yuri and so on)Coverly said:Scanned the thread for a couple pages just to make sure this question wasn't asked recently:
In battles where they mess up your original order(lets say estelle as player 1 and yuri as player 2 by default), how do you reassign the controllers to their intended character?
By default I tend to play estelle(to better manage the healing in my party), but last night I got thrown into a fight where Yuri became the first character and I had to play as him. I don't mind him, but if given a choice I would move to my default character. My wife also got reassigned to a character she wasn't used and was asking to be switched back.
So in a battle, how do you reassign the controller to take control of a different char?

kiryogi said:Honestly, I don't get achievement complainers. They're not supposed to be easy or at least shouldn't be. And supposedly, the titles do something minor, but not sure about the details myself. One of them gives you more chips @ the Casino.

I've just been following Kouli's guide
I've just finished getting these titles. You don't have to master every recipe on every character, though -- you just need to master them all for one character. I'd say it took me about 3 hours total, from having unlocked all the recipes. Buy all ingredients at the spa, cook in Yuri's room, sleeping between each cooking attempt.Brandon F said:Oh and mastering every recipe for every character is a big bowl of tedium.
