The Tales of Vesperia |OT|

Mr YuYu said:
Having just finished vesperia i can say that i feel this game is a little too longwinded.
Near the end i just wanted to get it over with. (then again i have that with a lot of rpg's)

personally i'd pick symphonia above vesperia. (haven't played abyss)

I'd pick Vesperia over Symphonia, but I felt the same too. I absolutely loved the game, but by the end of it I just wanted to get it done.

What should be made of this?
Nothing. That's just a standard customer service response. They don't even seem to be a major german online retailer or anything. They most likely use some outside database that apparently includes games in its database based on rumors and such (this is sadly, pretty normal).

So it looks like everywhere is sold out of this now and prices are jumping to $40 - $50 again. Dammit. I shouldn't have sold my sealed SE last week. I figured I had waited long enough, but I think it's just starting to go up in value again -_-;

I have a mint, but opened copy of Vesperia SE for 360.

Looks like it fetches 100$ on Ebay.

Had I just kept the seal on, it would fetch 3 and 400 dollars :(. It's a game I played once, and simply put on my "backlog", but damn I could use 400$.

I sold my sealed one for $110 + $50 shipping to Netherlands (yes it was $50 with tracking). I don't think any of those $300+ ones have sold

How long is the game if you skip all the side quests? I picked the game up when it was first released but I only made it to the big tree and stop playing for some reason.

Without sidequests, I'd say 30-35 hours or so, depending on the battle difficulty.

I finished it in almost 45 hours without doing any sidequests. I lost 1 or 2 hours here and there looking for where to go next, but that's all. I played really straightforward, so I doubt you can finish it really faster.

Well I'm expecting Vesperia to soon become available via other means considering Namco's recent declaration to "expand their digital presence" by "making their Back-Catalog and Future Releases Available via Download" including "hard-to-find gems" for Xbox 360's Games on Demand. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the two weren't connected causally...

I finished in 40 hours with minimal sidequests.

IIRC, my save file says 120+ hours :p ...
I had so much fun with it...
I've all the grade needed for my second replay (if I ever do it)...

I noticed I don't have the 100 hour achievement yet but I know I'm over 90. Might turn on my system again and just grab that + the monster achievement (need to Magic Lens Zagi on Part 2 of that first fight).

Did Scamco ever let us use those redeemable vouchers that came with the SE?
Is the website where the promotion was supposed to be launched/announced still up, even?

In case anyone is interested more retailers have started listing a PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia.

You can see them here:

Is it possible for so many retailers to get false information? I've been reading around and apparently the Yakuza 3 localisation was also leaked via a German website. Is this true?

Yes, easily. Especially if they all continue to be minor german websites who likely all outsource to the same database. Hell, all the sites you listed still have Last Remnant PS3 on their servers ffs.

Yes but it was Amazon Germany, which is a very different thing than "random niche german site #54". Call me when someone major actually lists the game and then we'll talk.

Every time I see this thread bumped, I expect some sort of news about the PS3 version being released here. But every time, it's someone grasping at straws :(

Which retailer had the Yakuza 3 thing? Is this situation common with these sites? Are they reputable/popular enough that if they have a game or release date listed, it's worth paying attention to? One site lists Atari as the publisher, didn't NB recently make a European branch? Have people found a leak of say, a French or Spanish version in addition to a German one?

Not to be a negative Nancy or anything, I'm just trying to know if this means anything and people aren't just linking to any retailer that has something in a grasp of hope.

Edit: Speaking of this game, realized I've never attempted a complete playthrough yet like I usually try to do with these. Nothing else to do, guess I'll go for it.

lucablight, buy the 360 version and every time you feel like looking at a German website instead, play it. You'll be done in a month or so and if the PS3 version is announced, you'll be happy knowing that you only played the 360 version taking up time you would have wasted anyway.

It became redeemable and I redeemed it, but I think the only soundtrack I got was from Tales Brigade. I got Volume 3 which I just gave as a bonus when I sold my extra Special Edition.

Great fucking game! Clocked in 30 hours so far.
Right now, I'm at the part where you fight what appears to be Raven in the Baction Shrine. I got my ass handed to me with his Overlimit attacks.

*Bumping a slightly old thread without any news! Forgive me!*

But i need some convincing. I've held out for awhile in grabbing the PAL 360 release of this game, but i'm at my limit! Really need my JRPG fix as it's a good time for me to finally pour some hours into one, but I've decided to skip on WKC + SO4IE (Own it on 360), and will just get back to everything with Resonance of Fate and FFXIII.

So till then, i'm tossing up between ordering Tales of Vesperia (360) or Magna Carta 2. (Preferring Vesperia).

Both games i love from what I've played, but god damn i just can't make an order given the talk about Vesperia's PS3 localization. Normally i wouldn't care and just go with the version i can play sooner, but the additions do appear to be extremely substantial. :(

Convince me or throw some suggestions GAF! I'm in need. :D

The PS3 version isn't being localized. We know this now, sadly enough.

Additionally, Vesperia > Magna Carta.

Seeing how Tales of Vesperia will probably remain the best current-gen "traditional" JRPG even when Final Fantasy XIII hits, I'd say it's the kind of game that's worth buying more than once even on the off chance (looking unlikelier than ever) that the PS3 version will be localized.

Ordered. :D

Thanks for the extremely prompt replies grandjedi6 and B-Rad Lascelle. Much appreciated. :D

For being a big Tales fan, i'm surprised i actually held out in getting it, and what better timing to order it now in this Q1 gaming rush :lol

I remember seeing ok
Kotaku *cough*
that there were some ToV figures coming out. Anyone know when they release? I want a Repede one.

Actually judith.

I'm actually playing it right now since I got bored and wanted an JRPG to play. I'm having A LOT of fun so far, and it's the furthest I've gotten on a Tales game. I really would have loved a US Vesperia PS3 release, but for the $15 I spent on it, it's amazing.

Oh sorry, I had no intent of console wars trash, I just really want to play ToV with all that added content and actually understand what's going on. (I don't import games, period, unless they are in English).

***NO NEWS***

What a great game this is. I dont have much Tales experience, but I would say Vesperia and Abyss are even. Abyss has the better story for sure. Vesperias wasn't the greatest. The story gets a bit to convoluted with all the new fucking terms they throw in and character names they reference. Sometimes I don't even know why I am going where I am going or doing what I am doing. I just have to look in the synopsis book to see where I have to go next.

In terms of characters, Vesperias is WAY better. Yuri is a breath of fresh air from the usual shit, Abyss included. Estelle kinda got on my nerves, but Rita, Raven, Judy, and Repede were great. Karol was a mixed bag.

Combat was kinda split. Vesperia felt good and refined, but it got kinda complicated with base artes, altered artes, mystic artes, overlimits, burst artes. Then you could get skills that changed certain artes, and some skills linked artes together, blah blah. I just said fuck this and put 4 altered artes to my stick and left it at that. I'll dive in on a second playthrough.

Great fucking game though. Feels like I missed so much though. Like, you NEED a guide to do everything; and I hate using guides.

***BONUS QUESTION***
For the PS3 version, how do the extra characters work?
Like when does that little girl join you, and when does Flynn join you in the story?
How does this affect the cutscenes, etc?
