A tenth of a point from last season yes, but a .9 from the first episode.

I realize you have to compare season to season on some level. However, that is not the only comparison to be made.

You don't compare premiere nights to the nights that follow. If we went by that, then every episode of The Voice has been a horrible disaster compared to the debut episode of the season post-Super Bowl. That's why when Idol ratings are analyzed, the previous season is usually the measuring stick. And that's why Thursday's 2.9 rating for Idol looked so dreadful compared to last season's comparable 5.2. The decline should terrify Fox. As for comparing Idol and The Voice directly, it's probably not fair to compare them until they're both airing live episodes. The Voice crushed them last year, but it remains to be seen if they will again this year. Idol's talent level, especially among the guys, is incredibly bad. If The Voice doesn't pick a lot of compelling singers either, they'll also struggle.

As for only being good for NBC. FOX would take The Voice's ratings. In a heartbeat. The Voice dominates them in the age range that advertisers covet most.

Wow you take a long time to write your reply's. You always miss my edits.

Anyways. Season vs Season is the primary metric yes. HOWEVER, night vs night does matter when you are looking at trends and a .9 is a huge drop. Far bigger than the equivalent from idol.

Pretending that The Voice is "dominating" is pure BS really. It is failing to match Idol which everyone says is flopping. Why is a show that is getting lower ratings than a flop a smash hit?

The only reason The Voice is looking good is because it is on NBC.

Wow, am I really reading Reality TV Wars?

Waffle, I don't really care about ratings or Idol or anything, but it sounds like you are stretching to try to make some point that's flimsy at best. Why not just come back at the end of the season and dance on the Voice's grave if it's really that dire?

lol sorry.

Baconsammy pretty much this same thing in the Idol thread for weeks. I probably should tone it back.

I stand by my assertion that claiming a show is a hit when it is getting worse ratings than a show that the same person is calling a flop is hypocritical at best.

Maybe I'm really bad at math, but latest episode of The Voice (which you call disappointing) garnered a 3.9. Latest episode of Idol got a 2.8. Tell me again that Fox would take the 2.8 over the 3.9. I get it, you dislike The Voice. That's your choice. But at least join us in reality.

What is this bullshit? I post the ratings. I watch the show. I'm genuinely interested in all the singing competitions because I enjoy them and want them to succeed. That's why it's painful to see what FOX has done to Idol. They're getting the disastrous ratings they deserve.

Are you really going to try to compare the launch episodes of one show to the ratings during the mid season doldrums of another?

Glad you have fled from any pretense of legit discussion. At least it is out in the open now.

Give me a break. You ONLY post when there is bad news to report (when they had an episode down only 4% year over year you were nowhere to be found).

The live shows of Idol are now the "doldrums"? Oh lord that's hilarious. The goal posts keep on moving. Rather than shit up this thread any further, take it to PM if you feel like it.

This will be my last post on the matter.

There is no moving the goalposts. If you were even mildly attempting to have perspective on the matter you would KNOW that the first half of the live shows is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS the lowest rated section of the season. That goes for Idol, X Factor, AND The Voice. It is also a fact that the first couple of episodes are the highest rated of the season for those shows..... often even higher than the finale.

In fact I am pretty sure you DO know this.... but it goes against your "The Voice is slaying, Idol is flopping" theory so you choose to ignore it.

First L.A. Reid discovered Bieber, now Usher discovered him. Who is actually responsible for this monstrosity?

Season rocks so far. The judges are hilarious. Shakira is definitely an upgrade from Christina.

youtube did it. Blame youtube. Yeah, this season has been exceptional so far. New judges fit right in and add a lot. Not going to call them the best judging panel yet because I still think Ceelo and Xtina were better, but that may change as time goes on. Christina was always good early on and then gave in to cattiness during the live rounds. My wife bought the Christina song that the last girl sang monday night. The girl is better than anyone I've seen on these shows except maybe Kelly Clarkson.

sup. it's on.

it's the modern

I'm amazed that last guy didn't get picked up. He was so much batter than the 17 year old. By a country mile.

Edit: I love how Blake and Adam can egg each other on. And Shakira is amazingly hilarious.

So this is the first time I'm watching this show... what happens after they get full teams?

Can they just sing whatever they want each week, or does this show do that retarded shit where they have lame "themes" every week where all the people have to pick from the catalog of whatever washed-up has-been is trying to jump start their comeback or sell a greatest hits CD, like all these other shitty shows?

Next part is the Battle round where they have contestants sing the same songs. Not really themes.

I want someone to make an off-the-wall judge choice dangit. Now it's pretty much turning into Pop vs R&B vs Latino vs Country.

After their teams are full they put two up against each other and then pick a winner. Then they go live, and they pick their own songs. No Motown or Beatle's week bullshit.

The Voice notched a 4.3 adults 18-49 rating, up 5 percent from last week’s 4.1.

Continuing to dominate. NBC's wishing the Voice could run every day along with an NFL game, because their ratings without either are often below Univision.

I thought this week's episodes were weak overall in regards to talent.

The very last girl was something else... don't know if she'll be great over the long haul, but the performance of that song was quite good.
