Nintendo produces games with great art direction. That is known. But I never equate that to great technical achievement.
When will people stop saying this is good looking? It's oversaturated orange eyes burning nightmare.I think a correction would be "Nintendo and their amazing ability to put out great graphics even on underpowered platforms"
Any third party game on Wii U is kinda eh, especially when they don't even run as well as on PS3 or XB360 but nonetheless.
Also, this was on PS3 and 360:

The "rain drops on the window" shader is unbearably bad. It doesn't even show the drops hitting the glass. Also, can't see shit.Yeah, so underwhelming...
Everything that it does that is impressive is due to Nintendo's software designers and artists, not the console. .

I have a Wii U, and I like it plenty, but I just wish Nintendo(who seem to be the only ones trying with their own hardware) offered more compelling games. I love Mario/Zelda/Kong as much as the next guy, but I want more or something different.
The new Zelda looks the tits though and I'm excited to play it, but they need more IMO.

Here's hoping Splatoon and Code S.T.E.A.M are sign of more original IPs to come.I have a Wii U, and I like it plenty, but I just wish Nintendo(who seem to be the only ones trying with their own hardware) offered more compelling games. Which doesn't change anything in the original argument about ps360 ports on wiiU. Hypothetically, a brute-force ps3 port on the ps4 could also have issues. Whether those would be because the game does fxaa on the 6 SPEs is irrelevant. For pretty much anything other than GPU workload the jaguar destroys CELL. Jaguar is far better at normal CPU tasks than CELL.
Great graphics, bad game? 60FPS?
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.
Great graphics, bad game? 60FPS?
Every example of good graphical prowess in video games are due to the software designers and artists.Such a non-statement.
Rather ignorance than sarcasm. Never played said game but still, the gif didn't look that good. The real shader/post processing is better even if slightly low res.I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

PS3 and 360 games also had games with amazing visuals also

Why are people shocked by this? This is like the 5th thread about this same topic
Driveclub is a really good game.
And tell me how its supposed to run 60 fps. 30 fps was a choice to archieve that level of graphics.
Just imagine how great it would have looked in 15 fps!

I like Nintendo but there's no need to sugarcoat it. It's not as if we haven't seen anything like it before, but it is wonderful how Nintendo games are good at putting a smile on your face because they are so cheerful and colorful.
cause unlike ninty most games have massive bugs, game breaking shit, bad perfomance, bad fps, etc. ninty as said above delivers on both quality and perofmance with almost perfect games every time
That's absolutely false. Or maybe you don't know how cpu works. The anomaly it's how the Cell works but it's not more powerful of the ps4 cpu, just stop it please.sörine;145386061 said:No, CELL actually has more performance im some respects than PS4's CPU. PS4 has far more performance than PS3 due it's more modern GPU heavy architecture though. Wii U also has comparable overall performance to PS360 thanks to it's more modern GPU heavy architecture, despite it's slower CPU.
Imagine what Nintendo could do if they weren't a Gen behind almost technology-wise with their consoles. Or better yet, developed on PC.

Wut. Are you serious? TLoU it's a port from ps3,the hell you are talking aboutWhich doesn't change anything in the original argument about ps360 ports on wiiU. 2/3 games in the OP aren't 60 FPS, guess they don't count.Great graphics, bad game? 60FPS?
Nintendo values art direction. Very few western studios really have good art direction... only a few come to mind: Valve... Blizzard, Naughty Dog kind of sort of, and That Game Company? And the Kentucky Route Zero guys... Cardboard Computer. That game Rime also looks pretty sharp.
You see art direction valued more at animation places like Pixar, Ghibli and Disney, they really put heart into that stuff to make it look timeless. Some hollywood films have good art direction these days... but most game studios and hollywood studios produce hella generic stuff. Shit, a lot of student projects out of Gobelins have better art than 95% of AAA games.
Guhhh... where is my Last Guardian -_-
No I'm not. But the ignorance of some user here it's really disturbing. Your post it's clueless because what's the point to say I'm trolling because 4 users tell you otherwise when they are completely wrong? I suspect you don't know even of what we are talking about. You have like 4 different posters telling you otherwise and you keep on with your trolling. Please do your research before getting into discussiona you are clueless about. Oh and you are wrong.
Rain effects of drive club are indeed great but pre patch I found the game graphically underwhelming. Rain in general seems to look good.Yeah, so underwhelming...

What?hahhaha oh man..seriously.....woah...

I'd say plenty of studio's have great art direction. Nintendo being such a large publishing house makes it pretty easy to identify their work, but similarly, I'd say many of Sony's games have incredibly cohesive art as well, and quite a range over the years.
Could the Wii U do that at 10fps? What does the quality of the game have to do with a graphics comparison?

We can argue whats the better choice there, but you cant say the next gen is underwhelming when, 1 year into the market, we have stuff like Driveclub, I:SS, Ryse or FH2.
There have been a number of great titles over te years with great art direction, but the focus of many games on realistic art styles with a gritty overlay limits their ability to create art direction that stands the test of time. They age badly as the arms race continues. It also costs a fortune to do it. Nintendo has been able to get more than most large studios that realism and complexity isn't the hallmark of great looking games by default. Twilight princess was pretty rough though.
I know, it's terrible when people stop to celebrate and tries to scratch the surface of the matter. Joke a part, it's part of the discussion such stuff.I love when these threads gets posted and the tech heads come in. Noone is denying it's weaker hardware or that good art style isn't present in other consoles. The industry is bombarded in realism, so this just a celebration.
Well sure, but you also have to accept that "standing the test of time" isn't every developers goal. Many developers want to push the envelope for what they can create here and now. It doesn't discredit the game any to push for a different style. Games with simple graphics hold up better over time. There's less to get wrong. If you were to play Jak and Daxter, or Sly cooper today, they'd probably still hold up.
