Here, I'll explain the HUGE flaw in the MMO idea right now. First of all, what's being described could barely even be called an MMO. It's an MMO in the literal sense, yes, but it ends up playing like a single-player game. It's a random match option where you walk around.

Now, random match. How many of you use that option in BW? If you don't, think about why and you'll realize what the big issue is and why the game would have to be altered to the point of the game just being a gimmick.

The day games require you to have NFC dollies to enjoy them will be the day I quit gaming. I think Anth0ny had a post about how NFC should work and I agreed with him on it. Can't find it now but I think he said they should be used to unlock features early on in a game, which can be unlocked later down the line without them. I agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments. I don't want to have to buy extra figurines to enjoy a game.

There wouldnt be a random match... this is where it gets interesting; there wouldnt be npc in the world. However to beat the gym leaders which would be computer controlled; you would have to get stronger, forcing players to compete with each other.

You misunderstood me. You randomly challenge people, basically, so it's effectively random match in a virtual world.

I admit.. I'm going to have big trouble sticking to my principles if a Zelda game comes along and NPC figurines are a part of the deal.
(I know, I'm weak.)

Maybe I can wait and buy them later on, used? The devil will definitely be in the details. Ugh. Gotta find a way to make this a bit more morally palatable.

I'm not talking about some basic social network. I'm talking about the full Pokemon world. You can explore it, with friends. Fight wild Pokemon. Fight NPCs. Do quests even. Have a house that you can fill with tons of random shit to show off to friends. Random events that Nintendo throws out on occasion.

You get into fight, you appear on a battlefield (an instance) in which it takes place.
The more you guys flesh these details out, the more I'm thinking I'd be tempted to get into it. And I've never done a Pokemon game. (*shock*!)

1)  Price? $329.99

2)  Release date? Nov 18th

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 4X

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Eternal Darkness 2 is coming to Wii U in 2013, along with EAD Tokyo's next 3D Mario, these announcements will be followed by the megaton to end all megatons... NINTENDO VS. CAPCOM!
lol

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. He'll be in a tux, like E3 2006

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? At least one of them makes some sort of announcements regarding their next gen consoles

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? The controller doesn't fit in wth our ambitions

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? I have three days off anyway because of Queen's birthday weekend, I'll have to get up in the middle of the night to watch the conference, first E3 on GAF... as a member that is.

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Where the hell was Smash Bros.?

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Vagueness about what games will be there at launch, questions left unanswered

If they offer them along with the game as an extra, I wouldn't mind. If I have to buy them to enjoy Zelda, or any game for that matter, then I will not be purchasing the title. I haven't bought a single DLC this generation unless they were true DLC, like Fallout New Vegas DLC for example. I refuse to support these things.

Could someone try doing a mock-up Wii U logo with the "U" being the same color, font, and font size as the "Wii" instead of it being a tacked-on image? I want to see if it looks better.

Actually I did it a few months ago
but it looked so hideous I couldn't upload it then
but since you're requesting it, I can give it a try.

Using Wii's original font.
Original Wii's color
Wii U's blue color
and even the eShop/Nintendo Network orange color...
as you can see, it looks shit no matter what so what we have is way better.

Wait...you're telling me you have not played a single Pokemon game ever?

Wait. What? Get Pokemon Soul Silver if you have a Nintendo DS. Trust me it's worth it.

Yup. Seriously, that's god-tier type stuff right there from a marketing perspective.

A Pokemon MMO that uses it? More money than god.

It could be cool a Pokemon MMO (IMO), but I'm sure they will only use Pokemon as a second though, as they always do in consoles, you know a Pokedex using NFC, Pokemon Stadium if we are lucky.

Also, a problem with develop a more heavy budget Pokemon console game is that increment userbase expectatives for the next handhled game.

I've never.
I've never been one for turn-based fighting; that's been my barrier, I guess.. but with an MMO, I'm thinking I'd want to go in with an more open mind.

You're missing what I'm trying to point out.

Six months after release, competitive players dominate the world, and it's not fun for people that don't want to EV train and IV breed. It doesn't work, just like a lot of people don't enjoy Random Match.

I dislike RPG games in general (turn based or not), but Pokemon is different. It's an amazing adventure and worth playing. You have to at least try out Soul Silver or Heart Gold. As a Nintendo fan you just have to.

Okay, since you guys aren't getting it, I'll spell it out.

Six months after release, competitive players dominate the world, and it's not fun for people that don't want to EV train and IV breed. It doesn't work, just like a lot of people don't enjoy Random Match.

Then you just don't challenge those guys.

You think this is a problem? It's called ranking, man. People will fight folks they're closer in rank to. Should still be plenty to go around, nevermind all the content that wouldn't necessitate player fighting.

Font looks off, imo.

the font overall is trashy, the word or letters "Wii" are the best looking from the entire thing if you ask me.

Do you think you could connect the "U" to the "ii"? As in, put the dots over each section of the U? It would probably confuse people, but maybe someone could do it right...

How about this?

6ee72fdac9b7df94ddb56f27302d0b27.jpg

It would be pretty cool if it displayed the blue "U" on the pad when its powered on.

I like the little elevated u

Definitely better.
As I said, I did it months ago using the official font and it looks just wrong
I like the Wii U logo the way it is right now but since a lot of people don't like it and I was
bored I dared to do it. Not my best work I have to say e__e

Thats the same with any mmo or any online game as a matter of fact there will be people way better than the rest, and if you want to be good you gotta put in hard work too.

A visible user history. Battles won/lost etc, or a rank based on that.

Great... If you know what you're looking for. If you don't, then you end up getting smoked, and a bunch of kids ragequit the game. Meanwhile, people wanting to get into the higher ranks have to give up having fun in order to do so, so many of those people quit too.

This is why there are such things as tiers.

Look... If you don't like the idea of a Pokemon MMO existing, that's well and good. But your endless stream of 'Yes, but...' is getting tired. You're trying to allege it's impossible to do a good Pokemon MMO when that's completely untrue. Also keep in mind that most of what I've suggested - and likely others have - is off the top of my head, not something fleshed out and ready to put to market. Given that, it's still clearly doable.

1) Price? $349.99

2) Release date? November 18th

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? sqrt(360^2 + PS3^2) / Wii

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Compelling online experience.

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Jeans, sneakers, sport jacket, smile, and Bill.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? Nothing we don't already know.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? "We're not that good."

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam? Nope

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? "No price or release date? Must be preparing for failure."

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Too much time spent on titles that sell well but don't appeal to me. (Nintendo should know all that counts is whatever I want. Everything else sucks.)

Hey man, that's not nice. :(

I was replaying the game again on NDS for the first time in ages. It just...boggles my mind that this game hasn't been copied to death yet. It's like an answer to most of the complaints about JRPGs. It's fast-paced, there's no random battles, the fairy tale storytelling rises above the bad anime shit you usually get, absolutely no grinding necessary with a perfect difficulty curve, 20-25 hours of content no filler, incentives to replay, you can walk away from long-winded NPCs...

It's just so weird. CT is maybe one of gaming's most universally-loved creations, but its essentially been ignored going by influence, and I think the genre was worse for it.

1)  Price? $349.99

2)  Release date? Nov 18th

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 6X

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Earthbound 4 Believe!

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Jeans hell he could show up naked if he wants he's Miyamoto

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? Sony will insult the tablet then copy 2 years from now.

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? All time favorite we just can't compete with Nintendo

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? Yes everyone is forbidden from talking to me during E3

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Why Nintendo is still doomed

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Spends too much time explaining the hardware

I'm sorry, but it ends up being a stupid idea. It's nothing but a gimmick. Hardcore players would appreciate the challenge, but beyond that it would be boring and easy to cheat. It would last a year at most before people realize that this is just another anime-based dream, like real-time battles. Also, I can't think of a worse idea than getting experience from real-life trainers.

Okay. This is the part where we agree to disagree. I can't think of a single thing that negates Pokemon from becoming a viable, good MMO other than Nintendo seemingly not wanting to. Which, hey, I'm cool with that - it's their IP. But if I were an analyst, I'd be giving them hell for it for years.

Then it comes out, you realize that it added nothing to series other than the gimmick of meeting other trainers by walking around, and I'm proven right.

I suppose I'll throw in my two cents:

1) Price? $349.99

2) Release date? Nov 18th

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? I'm quite optimistic about this, and think it'll be anywhere from 4-6X

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Retro's game will be the game of the show (but not launch day), First Smash Bros Trailer, and a major 3rd party exclusive, maybe a major RPG franchise

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Dresses up in Olimar Space Suit for Pikmin 3 demo.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? MS mentions new console with major Kinect focus, Sony has terrible Vita sizzle reel.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? Nintendo's audience is too childish for us...

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam?I will actually be in a plane on my way to Japan for a month, so I'll have to watch a stream a few days after the fact...

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Too much mario, not enough shooting. No price/release date? FUCK NINTENDO

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Too much time spent on a 3rd party game I'm not interested in, maybe Darksiders 2 or that Ubisoft alien game

Hey you guys I just had a thought:

I really don't like calling the new controller a "tablet", too long and it reminds me of ipads and other tablet devices. How about calling it a "tray"? The wiitray to go with the wiimote?

Ha! So a previous version of that patent was in circulation last year? I gotta up my level of sleuthing to the next level apparently. But what of that RAM config? You haven't heard anything of a split pool, huh?

Edit: Read your last response, btw. How much L2 cache do modern cards have? Would it be worth mentioning in that diagram?

I think you just forgot about it. :P

And no I've heard nothing about a split pool. I personally think they just stuck with the Wii layout and tacked on the hardware codec and the comm. module.

I saw that the Tahiti GPU have 768KB of L2 cache. And being worth mentioning would be up to Nintendo. That was just an idea of how it would look sticking exactly to the patent. After looking back on Wii, it would seem the 3MB FB was the VRAM, the 24MB 1T was the IM, and the 64MB GDDR3 was the EM. I guess that would (again sticking strictly to the patent layout), the 32MB would be the VRAM and the 2GB of memory would the the IM leaving the EM as a question mark. Though I think based on what we know of Wii U, I would "combine" the IM and EM and say that the 2GB would represent both.

1) Price?
£299.99 RRP (sold for £270 online).

2) Release date?
Late Nov 2012 (For UK)

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent?
360 x2

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)?
Every single big exclusive IP thrown at us including Mario Universe, Retro's Zelda and Smash Bros, most being in video form and not out until late 2013 / early 2014.

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show.
Explaining Pikmin 3 and the advantages the tablet controller brings.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions?
Both 720 and PS4 tech / demo teases shown to take the wind out of Nintendo's sails.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite?
An exclusive Resident Evil (hopefully a full return to survival horror).

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam?
Watching it live is pretty geeky if you ask my family / friends ;).

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year?
No Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Resi 6, Crysis 3 and GTA V mean Wii U is still casual and not 'hardcore' enough !!!.

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year?
A lack of triple A exclusive launch / launch window games, i think they will only unveil one more along with Pikmin, most prob Starfox, F-Zero or Mario Kart imo.

Then it comes out, you realize that it added nothing to series other than the gimmick of meeting other trainers by walking around, and I'm proven right.

Right, because an Pokemon MMO absolutely has to adhere to your strict definitions of play and design, and it's impossible for the series to be reworked, rebuilt and designed from the ground up for an online focused environment, catering to gamers of all ages and skill levels.

This is impossible. Because BurntPork said so.
