I've heard about that. Wonder what NST got brewing.
Well, their most recent game was Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, I believe. Not since Metroid Prime Hunters have they developed something else than mini games and similar, so I assume they want to create something substantial this time around.

Who knows, maybe they have picked up Project H.A.M.M.E.R. again?

Nintendo have been hiring quite extensively in their Japanese studios. We just don't have LinkedIn profiles to tell us who they've been hiring, so it doesn't get brought up much.

We know that they opened a 2nd R&D building japan in Kyoto I think; so of course there hiring lol; why have an empty building?

Personally, I think they can do this with any of their titles including NSMB. I'd be amazed if they actually have an online mode for NSMB.
My hope is that they'd do something like a simple version of the games as a pack in, like NSMB Mii could be something like one world along with multiplayer levels and online, or Four Swords like they offered for free on the 3DS eShop for a while.

(my ultimate ideal for NSMB is them using it to embrace DLC, like release level packs for each of the previous SMB games)

Not yet. That building will be finished in Q4 2012.

As far as I know they've only been hiring through Retro. Who else did they pick up for their other studios?

NST (and NTD) have also been hiring. Nintendo of Japan is always hiring

It's not their second R&D building. It would be third building. The Central Office has and Kyoto Research Institute being the two big ones. Then there is the Tokyo Office. I am still not sure how Iwata plans to coordinate or restructure the R&D now with three buildings in Kyoto.

So ninth? :p

This will be quite interesting. MPH wasn't a bad game, but it could have been a lot better than it was. Considering it was an online multiplayer game, maybe they're working on a game that will have a strong online multiplayer focus.

As long as these simple versions of the games are a separate entity from the actual game itself and are free then I won't mind, though, I doubt they will do something along those lines.

If those DLC are free for a limited time similar to what they're doing with Fire Emblem, then I won't mind DLC at all.

Pachter actually made much sense in the new episode of Pach-Attack!. No bashing of Nintendo, no comparing Wii U's hardware with that of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. He simply said he believes Nintendo isn't certain on all hardware components yet. He suggests though that specs may be given at E3, and that Nintendo needs to present final specs 3-4 months before launch. And he hopes they will add more memory (unsure if he means RAM or non-volatile memory).

My predictions were wrong, and I'm glad for it.

Thanks for the pic.

As you can see in this pic they have already removed the golf or baseball training field and they are working in the new building for months. I don't know how the builiding/construction looks like because google street doesn't update the view since last year.

EDIT:

Had a stroll around the area on street view, not a single billboard showing how the complex will look like.

Thats right XD

Pach-head don't know about Nintendo.

Anyway, since Sony and MS are basically confirmed to reveal their next consoles at E3, releasing specs can only hurt Nintendo at this stage. Granted, Nintendo is going to be upstaged either way.

Sounds like he's backtracking from his "dreamcast" prediction so that if he turns out to be completely wrong and gets called out for it, he can just say "well that's not what I meant."

I'm not sure what thread I should be putting this in, but I've been playing standard GTA4 and I really don't understand the issues people have with it. Sure it loses some of the cartoony charm the series is known for, but what they replaced it with isn't bad. I actually kind of feel bad for the people of Liberty City, this means I've been playing it really paragon-like. Haven't killed any civilians if I don't have to. Either outrun, or surrender to cops. Though I will admit to executing assholes.

Interesting stuff. Hope the Wii gets GTAV even if the only use they have for the padlet is cell phone and map related.

An inside source close to the folks here at Techtroid has suggested we may be seeing a Star Fox reveal at E3 this year, along with the already announced Pikmin and Mario games.

The new title is believed to be developed by Retro Studios, who we know for a fact are working on a Wii U game.

Retro has previously said: “It’s a project everyone wants us to do.”

The source added that the game will be shown off, but will not be a launch game for the Wii U system.

We won’t have to wait long to find our answer, as E3 is little over a month away.

What do you think? Is it about time for Fox McCloud to appear once more? Would you welcome him in HD?

Never heard of Techtroid before so I don't know their track record (or cred, if they have any), but I do love rumors!

Ahh... ok, is there any information on how it will look like?

But recent photos shows it coming along nicely

If you wanna know why the helipad/D-pad is so low, it's so when helicopters come in to land, it doesn't break the hinge. Nintendo learning their lessons.

Or it could just be that he has actually heard stuff now, probably not specs but launch window support, and is starting to back off on the doom and gloom because he is no longer talking out of his ass. If he isnt super negative on something, then its probably because he sees money in it now.

There were lots of issues with it. I don't recall since I finished the game a while ago. I just remember hating that there was not a lot of color and the driving had issues.

I'm down for a GTA game on the Wii U. I don't see any other use for the padlet other than map/cell phone.

Yeah, if he is backing off the hate, it's probaly good news for the fans.

Yeah, that doesn't make him any less of a complete and utter tool though. If anything, it increases his tool-quotient.

Could be true. The only thing we got is a possible hint (or trolling) from the "Official Nintendo Magazine" in the UK from earlier in the year:

“While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we’d love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”

We shall see at E3.

ONM having any kind of sources into what Retro is making is laughable.

I would like a WiiU Saints Row alot more. I like Saints Row more and the inzterface and crazy weapons would work SO FREAKING WELL with the DRC

Just Cause 3 with the map on the subscreen and you tap it to instantly be transported to a location.

$10 says 90% of Wii U games for the systems' entire life run at no higher resolutions than the current gen. EG: 720p norm, only a very few exceptions running at 1080p.
Infinity dollars says I don't give a crap about the difference between 720p and 1080p. Seriously, if that's what's going to be the big difference between the Xbox 3 and the Wii U, then MS is out of their fricken mind. (That would be a 2.25x increase in 'power', btw)
Why give a crap about SD to HD then? Resolution is resolution. If you think that's going to be the only difference between Microsoft and Nintendo's hardware, you're going to be surprised. All resolution dictates is the rendered pixels, and fact of the matter is 1080p looks crisper, cleaner and far nicer than 720p. Not to mention pretty much every modern display bar the lowest budget line is built to natively render at 1080p, forced to upscale 720p.

But more importantly, that certainly wont be the only thing that separates the two. It's simply an added bonus of having stronger hardware: better overall rendering IQ.

I will, however, make an argument that a lot of people wont notice it. Mass market consumers wont, just like they probably don't see much of a difference between Call of Duty: Black Ops PS3 and WipeOut HD, despite the latter regularly rendering at near twice the resolution. What they will notice is all the bells and whistles on top of that. And like z0m3 said, a lot of next generation games will probably run at 720p anyway, as developers wish to focus resources towards extra effects.

But, end of the day, I take ShockingAlberto's stance (regardless of him telling people not to take it as fact). I expect the Wii U to be more powerful than any current generation title, and by an amount that allows for ground-up system pushing titles to legitimately look better. I think we'll see a lot of titles that don't do this, particularly ports. And, when Microsoft's console arrives, I'm expecting it to smoke the Wii U's performance, far and beyond any Wii U = PS2 / XboxNext = Xbox kind of comparisons. And I expect it to be stupid expensive.
I don't disagree, except perhaps for the importance of hardware. Still, this isn't a debate I'm having with you as much as it is me using our exchange as a stepping off point for a rant.

There's no doubt Sony and MS are going to go overboard hyping the power of their new gear as usual, and they'll make very convincing arguments to that effect. Thing is, people don't buy consoles because of power - they don't even buy the consoles. They buy software, or as Nintendo says, 'experiences'. For all of the attention we pay in these threads to the ROP's and the ALU's, none of it is going to hold a candle to the IP's and the OS's.

Running a 720p Wii U game at 1080p isn't going to impress more than some fanboys and graphics whores, a tiny fraction of the market. Same goes for resolution upgrades on the PS360 to Wii U ports, for that matter. We tend to overstate the importance of resolution here because it matters to us, but we're not a microcosm of the general gaming public. Most people are content to be playing games in any form, just as long as they're not getting an Atari PacMan-esque downgrade.

Image quality is the other half of this hype equation. "Better graphics than PS3? Sign me up!" is the thought bubble we're putting above gamers' heads. Except, even a cursory glance at gaming history shows that gamers simply go wherever the good games are. The better looking versions of those same games don't move consoles as the PS2/Xbox/GC generation made clear; the games themselves have to actually be different and better than what is available to them elsewhere. Nintendo is banking on their controller to make different and better games possible, as well as something akin to a WiiSports type of killer app that exploits its functionality. Had they instead just made an expensive 10x PS3 system, it would be Gamecube all over again, especially after the other consoles arrive. The onus is going to be on MS and Sony to prove that better image quality can do what it has yet to - move consoles.

The other industry people who are hyping power besides console manufacturers are of course the game engine gurus. (Well, most of them; id's John Carmack is a bit less enthusiastic on the subject.) Epic is looking to leap the uncanny valley in a single bound with UE4, and that's apparently going to make games better. Sorry, I can't help but be a bit cynical about games so detailed, we have to keep pausing the action to take it all in. So these CGI movie simulations will be an impressive technical feat, cost a shit-ton to make, and last about an hour per year of dev time. In order to keep from bankrupting publishers the world over, console makers will probably have to rely on a subscription model similar to what MS is experimenting with. Publishers will have to make sure to cater to the lowest common denominator and not take any risks, even more so than they already do.

Yeah, but I don't get it. The new systems' games are going to have crazy physics and super-real AI. The NPCs will even make you want to cry at times. It's all going to be too complex for the Wii U to even handle. Yada yada yada. I guess I don't get it. Maybe the holodeck is the end goal of gaming, and the closer we get to hyper-realism, the better. Or maybe we should take a note from Pong and realize that all we get out of games are the experiences we put into them.

What? Both companies have specifically said they arent revealing new hardware.

Microsoft has a bigger booth than last year, and Sony's tagline is a dead giveaway. They both lied to get more hype at E3 to ensure that they pull rug right under Nintendo's feet. It's also most likely why Sony is going before Nintendo.

MS and Sony announcing new consoles, but not showing anything playable, would be amazingly awesome for Nintendo.

"You saw a lot of fluff, now here's something you can actually play!"
