No. Pretty sure Nintendo's philosophy will be that if they up-port their 3DS games to Wii U, they'll end up being in competition with themselves (i.e. less reason to grab a 3DS). Though from what I've read about that control scheme, it would be a better fit on a console. Perhaps a sequel will be announced though?
I think handhelds being too similar to consoles and sharing too many games/experiences is precisely the biggest mistake Sony keeps making with their handhelds. Nintendo will provide and promote unique experiences between handheld and console.

Let's interrogate IM.

lol @ that last part

A tricky question to ask:

Ideaman have you heard anything about Nintendo trying to make the console more accessible to "indie/garage" developers?

Thats my question on this week :P Lets see everyone else's questions :P

Right. I think Sony's definitely making a mistake if they think getting cross platform releases with home systems is going to improve their fortunes. You need portable software built specifically for portable hardware. It gets even more confusing with the whole remote play thing. One eats into the other and you wonder what the long term strategy is here.

They need to get their act together, because at the rate they're going if the 3DS doesn't kill the Vita, the Wii U will almost certainly finish the job.

I wonder when we'll get the next obviously bullshit "leak" of the E3 software lineup that reads like a fanboy masturbation fantasy. We're about due for one.

100% not going to happen.
They will not release any type of tools for "garage" developers.

EA probably has a dev kit. They somehow consider there games indie.

Yeah, not in the literal sense anyway. You have to at least be able to provide a real, secured office with cameras and a resume or two that shows you have game development experience. Then they'll ship you actual devkits.

...honestly I don't have a problem with this.

Pretty sure they're actually wooing some of the bigger "indie" developers anyway.

Just like they'd never have an aggressive online strategy?
Just like they'd never make design changes to their hardware based on input from third-parties?

"It's Nintendo", right?

Seriously, it seems unlikely, but you can never be sure. I'd say that if Nintendo did something like that, they'd do something like Net Yaroze with Wii kits, not full-blown WiiU kit.

Does anyone still have the list(s) from before last e3?

I think we've had like 3 of them. 2 before and one near the end of last year

If the Nintendo ES stuff comes up it could be used for this, basically a limited open environment to run whatever, like internet "apps" running in a browser.

"how to get hits on your website 101: Over-hype"
Hehe, that is probably the reason yeah.

^ this

he knows nothing so I was glad it was short because this guy is just guessing
Sure, he is an analyst, most of their work is just guessing/speculation. I enjoy hearing Pachter's thoughts on different subjects though =)

Man, Pachter knows as much as we do.

I did love the part where he says "Nintendo certainly won't consult with me" :lol
That is one thing that i like about Pachter, that he has self irony.

I wonder why they called that episode for "WiiU blowout". Two questions about the WiiU, i was expecting maybe at least 5 questions and a long episode than usual.

Because his "Ratings" and overall popularity slides dramatically when he's not trying to piss off the Nintendo fans so he puts up the title to pull the old bait and switch....

Wii U Blowout= What is he gonna say now?
Regular show title= Nintendo is DOOMMMMEEDDDD!!!!!11111

Hehe, well, i dont think that he is the one making the titles to be honest. But the headline was most likely to attrack more viewers indeed.

Had they consulted him and wound up making a "Wii HD" in 2009 like he wanted, it would have been a disaster of 32X proportions. I don't hate him or whatever, but I sure wouldn't look to him for sound advice in the video game industry.

An Avengers game, soon on our home systems (and possibly on Wii U ?)

The Avengers video game looks to have a title — Avengers: Battle for Earth.

On May 3, 2012, a day before the film was released in the United States, the domain name avengersbattleforearth.com (Whois) was registered through the brand protection company MarkMonitor.

The name was registered by Marvel Characters, Inc. and is currently listed on Ubisoft’s nameservers: nic1.ubisoft.com and nic2.ubisoft.com.

While there has been speculation the game may have been delayed, cancelled, or simply couldn’t work, the newest domain registration hints that it may be officially announced soon.

Maybe a multi-port console game based on the franchise, maybe an iOs/Android small title, maybe a web-browser social thingy... Ubi, if you are working on this, please, i'm sick & tired of miss "i believe i'm a princess scarlett", just replace its face by another one :p

I'm reading the May NP now. What was ever decided about the "NEXT MONTH" image?

Company of Heroes 2 will be set in russia and its by thq who are struggling but are fully on board wii u to help them get out of their slump. It could also be Homefront 2 with a russian setting. It could also be Metro Last Light. Yes they are all THQ published titles.

Back with the power talk of the last few pages, I strongly believe that nintendo will go with a N64-NGC level of increase in power next generation. I strongly believe this can be provided at under $350 and at least a break even point for Nintendo on day one.

If Wii had followed on from N64-NGC levels of power increase then we would have probably seen a console maybe 60% as powerful as the Xbox360. following a natural upgrade path from that scenario to WiiU will at maximum be only 3-5 times more powerful than the Xbox360 (allowing of course for the extra year the wii had without a successor.

I think that should be enough but a lot of people brought up on PS3 and Xbox360 may think that will be too weak considering the upgrade path for the Xbox360 will be 8 years. Microsoft will release something that will be at the range of 9x-15x more powerful than Xbox 360, but from a visual standpoint will be the difference in WiiU games running in 720p @30fps to the next generation xbox or ps4 running the same game with the same equivalent effects at 1080p @30fps.

From a development standpoint I think that kind of scalability will last nintendo 6 years with the first three years of the cycle showing that nintendo can keep up with the next generation consoles from MS and sony. It will be then that nintendo will introduce a pricing strategy more catered to a mass market price and also intoduce a casual or even more mass market to stem the increasing divide in visual quality between WiiU and the PS4 but at that point the perception of value would be felt by the consumer and the developer.

This is where I beleive Nintendo can capitalise over the lessons learned from having a much weaker console like the Wii today at the end of the generation. Just being able to get the developer have ports which will yield less of a time and financial risk due to the ease of porting assets will give the third party ecosystem of the WiiU a large and more diverse sample compared to what the Wii received after the 2009 when supports dried up. It is scalability rather than competing for specs that will entice the developers to jumping on the WiiU in this next generation.

that is crazy that console will be like 900$ Id say 2x, 3x is being generous.

Ancel basically said that the console hardware needed to run BG&E won't be available this year. Wii U is definitely not getting it unless the console really takes off. Ancel doesn't consider Wii U next-gen.
And yet, here we're getting an all-new Rayman 2D platformer that arguably looks better than the one before it...

I suppose that doesn't discredit what you said, but it's kinda funny.

No kidding. I mean, at the time, the 360 and PS3 were pushing the boundaries of consumer and manufacturer affordability too far in 2005 and 2006, y'know, before the recession. And now people think they're going to push EVEN FURTHER AGAIN?!

How... quaint.

I'm positive that it'll come to PS3, 360, and Vita and will look exactly the same on all of them. Hell, if there's a Wii version it'll look basically the same.

You're both on the extreme ends, imo.

The Avengers was the SHIT

If the Hulk was in Skyward Sword, I would take back most of my complaints.

"Yeah, the flying sucks and the overworld is mostly empty, but DID YOU SEE THE FUCKING HULK!? BEST ZERUDA OF ALL-TIME!!!!"
