Why would people not show up in my Conference OT? That's just silly talk.

I likely won't be there. Sorry, man. =(

Seriously: I'm thinking of starting a generation-long topic documenting third-party developer comments - both good and bad - about the Wii U. Given Nintendo's supposedly remarkable, renewed focus on attempting to attract third-party efforts, it could be a very fascinating topic.

Having all of that information in one place could be very handy. It could be a document outlining Nintendo's successes and failures, with hopefully some good conversation to be had. It's an important topic.

I admit.. it's probably silly. *shrug/blush*

It would get harpooned within a week or so.

"Harpooned" as in closed by mods? Or "harpooned" as in polluted by trash talk? I'd love to have a kinda mature, cold, clinical look at the whole issue. No one - neither Nintendo nor developers - would be sacred in such a discussion.

Nah. I'm still considering a ban during E3. I have a hard time stomaching GAF during E3s.
I don't recall it being that bad.

Yeah, it was the DQX reveal thread.
I mocked the jackasses posting all the "lol wii online" crap and told them to STFU.
That's not the way we talk to people, I guess.
I once got told to "fuck off" by a poster and ignored it.
He was not banned.
Yikes.

Going on vacations?

Trash talk. It would devour itself without them, though, as some of the more ardent zealots would become overly sensitive about this or that issue. In the end, it's hard to have cold, logical discussions on GAF. Opiate has tried for quite a while.

In the end, I think that there are many people who have very narrow conceptions of what constitutes innovation. Consider GAF, for example. It's become abundantly clear that if certain products don't fit within narrowly defined, largely arbitrary guidelines, that it will be labeled 'gimmicky' or sub-par or as a cheap attempt to market to 'those people.' I'm sure there are developers who think similarly. For example, how many major developers like Sakurai would make a game with as controversial a control system as Kid Icarus? Or Smilebit back in the day with GunValkyrie? Neither did it just to be annoying or frustrating - it was because that's how they felt the controls had to be to make the game they wanted to make. But gamers get pissed because, well, they have to start from scratch to some extent; all those hard-earned skills playing thousands of games and training their hands to perform certain actions are generally lost when approaching something distinct.

I totally agree. New controls is why I purchased a Wii to begin with. I'm all about new controls and new ways to play. Some work, some don't, but I'm more than willing to try it. My biggest disappointment is that the Wii wasn't embraced enough to allow for big developers to really get their hands dirty.

They should be. Doesn't mean they will be, though. Some of their 'we don't know how to use the controller in a meaningful way' comments have me nervous.

Me, too, but I'm trying to stay positive about it. Once I get to E3 and chat with some folks, I'll decide whether to get disappointed or not.

Agreed on all counts.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Something that EatChildren said earlier stuck with me, and you have just hit-upon it with this post.

I think I might take a cue from him and not post at all during the conference. Part of me doesn't want to divide my attention between the board and on-stage events. No one's gonna read the posts anyway, as y'all say. I can always read the comments and post my thoughts afterwards; a lot of the posts during that 1+ hour are going to be one-liner-type posts anyway.

And while I'm thinking about it: please let it be more than an hour.. Please?

Do it. It makes it easier to take in everything from the conference.

If anything, as far as controls changing is concerned, I wish we had gotten to see what Nintendo would've come-up with in their second generation of Wii remote motion controls. Don't get me wrong - I'm very, very much excited for the uPad and the possibilities that it brings, so you won't find me complaining about it very much at all - but to see how they could've refined their existing control schemes and to see the new control schemes they'd invent over the next six years would have been great.

There still exists a small sliver of hope, since the Wii U will still have some small degree of emphasis on the Wii remote. I was really happy to see it featured alongside the uPad in the introductory video.

I wish there was an app of some kind that would take message board comments and post them on the tv screen in real time as you are watching an event. Kind of like pop-up videos. Of course a moderator, or two, would have to pick the best ones to display. Could result in some hilarious fun.

Hey, anyone on here have an Xbox with Live?

Maybe you could contact MATTY B00SH and ask him what the mysterious "button" under the d-pad is for. I'd also like confirmation of grips added to the wuc.

I wouldn't call QA Testing "playing games all day". :/

Well, I think that tells you just how seriously he takes his work, doesn't it?

And yeah, I have to stay out of other threads til E3. The assumptive things people are saying in other threads is pushing me over the edge, especially when they use weasel words to get out of it.

Seems like a pretty sound protocol for the last two weeks. I have this thread bookmarked and just keep a tab open to it at all times. Makes it much easier.

...

Has Mr Boosh updated anything since this weekend's incident?

Mr. Boosh deleted himself off the internet to the best of his ability

Says Wii U is launching on November 23. That's a Friday.

Not happening.
I hope and pray that they give us lots of heads-up time so that I can grab a week off of work. Telling us in mid/late-September might be a bit close for a November launch. I'm slowly but surely building-up my vacation hours.

If they were to pull an Apple-type "and it'll be on the shelves in TWO WEEKS! YAAAAY!" I think I'd be quite annoyed, to be blunt.

I'm embarrassed by how many times I refresh this thread.
Oh my. I don't even want to try to fathom how much or how often.

Although that list is fake as fuck: can't we assume that pre-installed software is a given because of how they handled the 3DS? Maybe we'll get Face Raiders U - or what I'm hoping for: small games for the uPad like Go, Chess etc.

I saw an interview with Reggie and he was asked the price of the system or if that is important to him(the interviewer was aware he wasn't going to give him a number) and he said that "value" is important to them meaning there will have to be incentive included with the system so people can have something to do solely buying the console.
