The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT| Gwent Player, Monster Slayer, EVEN RACISM

Movement feels waaay too sluggish. And I still can't believe there's no keybinds to cast specific signs. The scenery is nice, but when the controls both in and out of combat feel this bad it really hampers my enjoyment.

Out of curiousity, as I entered the first town the game told me that I wasn't allowed to steal. What counts as stealing? Should I NOT run around looting every crate I see this time around?

I'm thinking people mostly commenting on movement feeling weird didn't play the last two Witcher games. The controls are for sure different feeling than most 3rd person RPGs

Interesting on ps4 crashing and black water glitch. Been on xbox one for 4 hours no crashes, and minor audio glitch. That's all. Anyone on xbox one crash yet or see the black water?

I've been playing on PS4 for huge 8 hour chunks and I've not experienced any crashes or the black water glitch. That said the game can be rather glitchy but that's probably due to it being open world.

The load times are really bad though and the pop in can be quite aggressive from what I've seen.

Guarantee I'm going to screw up this post? Yeah.
Some of these comments about PS4 stuttering and crashing, coupled with GTA V movements are starting to give me a panic attack.

Hopefully it doesn't turn you off as much as it turns me off, I'm not even going to continue playing it. I cannot stand the clunky feel.

When starting the game I selected to simulate a TW2 save, do I still get to choose at some point what I did last game or does it just randomise it?

Does selecting no give you a quiz or something to fill out?

I changed to PS4 from PC so I'd kinda like the big decisions to still be what I chose :)

I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

Took me 3 hours to get my first crash on PS4. Not going to complain too much since that 1.02 update doesn't seem to be available yet, but I'm hoping it will sort out some of the stutter since that is a lot more distracting.

So how DAI-esque is the world with filler bullshit?

From what I've seen not very. Each sidequest has either been interesting on it's own merit or has fleshed out the world more.

I've done two and a half playthroughs of Witcher 2 in the last couple weeks. It felt nothing like this.

M+KB, for what it's worth.

Playing on a PS4, first Witcher game, I gotta say the game feels janky as fuck...movement, how the character interacts with the environment, the camera...I've already encountered serious framerate shit during cut scenes....I'm not sure what to think.

Yeah, I find it really odd that nearly none of the reviews I read mentioned the control issues...it's not game breaking for me, but definitely a hamper to my enjoyment.

So there is points of interest that are a ? on the map. These seem more filler and less interesting. More like treasres, bandit camps, monster nests, etc. The secondary quests themselves though are all pretty involved or interesting. The world comes to life here versus Dragon Age which felt very sterile at times.

Nah, Geralt's out of combat movement is definitely sluggish and janky. Almost feels like crazy amounts of input lag at times.

Witcher 2's movement wasn't good either, but it was a bit better than this. It's not terrible by any means, but definitely my biggest gripe so far.

Every time I have this complaint, which is like 95% of non-Nintendo titles, all I can think is that there's never a point in the development of the game that the devs bothered to test it from > 3 feet away. They probably barely test it beyond monitor/desk lengths.
Well, that may be an explanation, but it certainly isn't any excuse. It needs to be addressed. It's really beginning to grate on me. Just include an option in the settings so I can adjust the text to where I'm sitting, be it three feet, five feet or ten feet.

I'm a little confused. I've barely done anything and the main quest that I'm up to says "Suggested Level 3" even though I'm only level 1 and haven't had much opportunity to change that? I mean I've done a few secondary quests too which didn't do much...

Am I supposed to just explore and grind out for however long to reach level 3? I'm not sure how it works.

Don't worry about it. It's the kind of euro-jank you should expect. Especially considering the size of the world they are going for. I've not had much problems with stuttering and no crashes at all. The controls are mostly fine when out in the world but they do shit the bed whenever you are indoors. It isn't a game breaker.

PS4 version is pretty janky. Movement feels weird, there's quite a bit of stuttering too. This is my first Witcher game so maybe it will just take some getting used to. Feels much different than Bloodborne which I finished a few weeks ago.

Damn. This is going to be my first Witcher but coming off the perfect movements of Bloodborne and the silky smooth 60fps of Dark Souls 2 SotFS I'm worried. I can handle a little jank here and there but I'm sweating now lol

FUCK.

Spent a few hours dicking around the first town. I'll label spoilers.

- I picked the wrong option when I started the game, so I wasn't able to craft the story to my liking. It's not the biggest deal, but it just means I'll have to run through the game.

- Which, in and of itself, is fine. Combat is far more refined, harder, and faster than the previous games. Crafting is better, the inventory screen is MUCH better, and the fact that I have a horse and can fast travel makes my playtime not spent wandering empty, linear halls.

- The open world actually works. You arrive at stuff fairly soon, and the random quests scattered about are pretty engaging. At the very least, the loot you get is great, making most detours worthwhile.

- I hate swimming. I hope this isn't a constant thing in the game.

- Quests are ten times better than the 2nd game. The one with the arsonist had so much character, since the drawf
knew the kid before the fire. After they hang him, the drawf gets all buddy buddy with the Black Ones and I hope something plays out from that.

- It's still pretty janky. Some characters fall through the floor, the clipping is bad, and the movement is still pretty awkward.

- You can chug potions during battle. Finally!

Well at least with the keybind signs thing, it sort of makes sense, for a reviews perspective. Everyone's been playing console versions, and I ASSUME that the only way to select signs is on the radial wheel. No one would've had the opportunity to be frustrated at the lack of 1 button keybinds for specific signs cuz no one was playing PC.

Simulate = choices once you reach a story point.

Not simulating = default canon choices, which I don't think they've disclosed.
Ha good to know I picked the right choice. Simulate here.

I've actually found a couple '?' that have turned into some actual quests. There was the one in the prologue that
had me killing the ghost around the well. I know that was a quest on the board but I hadn't checked the board yet so at the time it felt like I was discovering something...

Looks like you can break sidequests at least if you do things in the wrong order. On this quest I managed to do some steps apart from their intended order and now can't finish the quest at all. Have an earlier save I can load to do it again, but still kinda lame they didn't take things like this into account.

Remember to use multiple save slots, and save often.

re: the quest where you're helping the black smith and his burnt down home or whatever, I can't even find whatever I'm supposed to be looking for behind his place. I found a kid there, then he disappeared.

I'm actually not a fan of how the witcher focus thing.

First impressions, its kinda like Witcher 2, but big as fuck, and horses.

Also, graphics are pretty damn good. Not the greatest ever, but not horrible either.

Definitely had some stuttering during cut scenes on xb1,especially the cool opening scene which seemed to shift in speed and try to catch up with itself. I thought that it was some artistic effect at first but I doubt it was mid way through.

The game asks whether I should simulate choices from a previous game... I never played much more than a few hours of Witcher 3. What should I choose there? I'd like to have the chance to make my own choices on the back story like I read about.

Okay thanks! Glad I picked simulate.

Yeah, that does make sense, although I was referring more to the game's movement. The sign thing doesn't bother me too much, as I don't mind using the scroll wheel to quickly select the sign I want.

Having never played the witcher series before, and having come straight from bloodborne...these controls are terrible.

bummer, makes me a little nervous. still playing bloodborne, trying to complete before tomorrow, but I dont think that is happening. So close to finishing though.

Pretty sure you choose simulate. Then after the prologue you should be able to make choices. I'm still in the prologue so I can't say this with 100% certainty.

I played for 3 hours and I'm really loving it so far. I've just been going around the starter town doing quest (it seems I've done all the obvious ones at this point, cleaned out the board).

The only thing I'm curious about is, in 'White Orchard', did you guys have enough stuff to be making potions and getting weapons/armor made from schematics? I feel like I've been picking stuff up and have so far done all the quests I've seen, but I can't make anything with what I've got. Is 3 hours in too early to really be able to get into that stuff? Or am I missing something?

Doesn't that quest send you right to where you need to get the ingredients? Just follow the waypoint. There should be a drowned nearby to help you get the ingredients for another quest too.

I made some armor from schematics pretty close to right when I got into White Orchard. I've done just one side of the Griffin quest and I've made 2 more potions, too.

You're probably not disassembling things, or buying a few ingredients here and there.

Healing is rough on Death March.. I'm out of food and drink, finished my first contract with a sliver of health left but I did it.

[PS4] Crashed for me during Gwent tutorial. I restarted it and risked playing Gwent again - this time without a crash. Other than that I really can't see the stuttering some people are reporting nor any other bugs. I am also out of cash right now. What was I thinking buying those Gwent cards in the inn...

Yeah, dissassemble stuff. You won't find a lot of items in their pure form but you can disassemble a random Goat hide into the Leather Thingy you need for some items (and if you dissassemble that Thing into a Leather Thingamajig, it has uses in recipes too). A lot of the junk you get like fishing rods are meant to just be disassembled for their parts.

It's pretty lousy that disabling subtitles turns off ALL the subtitles, even translations of fictional languages. There needs to be an option for enabling foreign translations only. Other games do that already and I'm kind of amazed that CDPR didn't think of it.
