holy shit is this real?

Man, just did a really fantastic side quest early on involving a well - nuff said. If the "filler" stuff is this great the main quest ought to be utterly amazing!

Not typically a fan of the genre, RPG or open world, but I'm enjoying this game far more than I expected. My only negative is that a lot of the inventory/crafting/blacksmith stuff seems overly complicated with just the briefest details given the first time you open each tab.

So... I just started, barely scratched the surface before I have to go to bed before work, but a couple quick impressions:

1) I suck at combat and it seems like it'll take a while to master - especially fighting multiple enemies at once. I just got my ass handed too me by three innocuous swamp enemies at the beginning of the game about 4 times in a row without doing much damage.

You should have stuck with fighting Vesemir for a while. I stayed there because I haven't played a Witcher game in years, it helped a ton. I haven't had a problem fighting, yet. Just try to stun, and parry. That's what I've been doing.

EDIT: n't

2) The HUD is too much. For such a beautiful game, I feel like there's information overload on the screen and it detracts from the atmosphere. Talk of a 'customisable HUD' I saw in some threads were a bit rich - you can turn off the mini map and that's it. But there's always something on the screen distracting you. I wish you could at the very least control the HUD opacity.

No, you can turn off everything. I'm playing with absolutely nothing on my screen.

Go to Options > Display > HUD Configuration

Finally beat that stupid Griffin after nearly an hour of getting my ass kicked. Death March difficulty ain't no joke! Some advice, don't fight him when you're only level 2.

How many of you have received your Collector's Editions? I must say, that the painting quality is one of the worst I have seen on a product this big and expensive. I get that you mostly use airbrush to cover up most of the surface of statues this big, but the details especially on Geralt's face are horrible.

How does your Geralt of Rivia look like? Is he missing eyes and painted with a one inch brush like mine?

Every other item in the Collector's Edition is of the highest quality, like the awesome artbook and the metal pendant.

As a figure collector...

Kill me.

I've noticed that the judder/framepacing issue is most noticeable when panning the camera slowly (PS4).

I can definitely see this getting annoying. I may wait for a few more patches before I start playing depending on how bad it gets when I get past the prologue area.

I just don't think these games are for me, I tried 2 but it didn't do anything and now this one I just don't feel anything. It feels too overwhelming with potions, bombs, alchemy, mutagens as they're all a necessity in comparison to other RPGs. Plus the combat isn't clicking.

Just a question about save imports, the game gave me several options to import saves, but now I can't remember if I did save Witcher 2 after I made every single important decision (there's probably an auto save for this, right?), what happens if you don't import the latest save?

Is it really a framepacing issue though? As far as I noticed, it doesn't happen when you pan the camera vertically, does it? Wouldn't that make it a game issue instead of framepacing?

I hope I'm wrong, it would mean I can fix it on PC.

I hate them too. It's in the language option from memory.
Oh? Thank you! I was getting worried this was overlooked somehow.

Thos e playing without a mini map, how do you navigate the world? Pause screen map, but no compass? How to get your bearings?

You can select autosave which saves before credits. Also in case you don't have a save from witcher 2 you can go with developer decisions or do a quick recap dialogue for the decisions.

Yay! i can be part of this thread now. Played a couple of hrs this morning. happy that they revamped the gameplay finally. Some big fps dips on Ps4, but apart form that, i am having a lovely time with it.

I hope I didn't mess up the save import thing then,
I want Letho to come back!

Do we even have to spoiler tag Witcher 2 events here?

daaamn, the framerate can get really annoying in combat (PS4 version). Had to lower the difficulty to normal because I kept dying due to drops in the 15 fps region :/
Also, why does the HUD need to have that big wolf medaillon? It's like a logo of the game placed within the HUD, keep that shit clean.
Aaaand the menus (inventory, crafting etc.) are a mess, I'm only 8ish hours in and it's already too much in there.

But doesnt this at least reduce the ingredients for the specific bomb/potion? If your bomb get restored as soon as you meditate is kind of sucks, as I dont wamt to have unlimited supplies of bombs

So far My only complaint are the small font, i decided to stick with disc xbox version, but i might go digital on ps4.

why buy both?

7 hours in and I've been just fine just swinging my sword. Haven't really used a lot of magic either, apart from Quen. Because I keep getting hit lol. I'm playing on the normal difficulty, though.

But I understand how you feel.

Velen main quest

This quest where I have to escort the Baron is hard as fuck. These wraiths are doing nasty things to my anus.

I have a question. I am playing the game on Hard mode. I understand, that the health doesn't replenish, but this counts also towards passives? i triggered a passive that helps my health replenish faster during day time... but my health stays put. Or am i missing something?

Also... is there a way to make the HUD hide? i wish it would hide when i am just looking around.

Just got to the bog where you
escort Johnny
oh god that framerate..several enemies, in water, with rain and strong wind..feels like it's running at 15fps on PS4..I don't think I'll touch this on hardest difficulty until I get a new PC.

So CD Project Red support answer me via email, US expansion Pass would not work on the EU version of the game. obvious but the latest patch about DLCs cross country support I thought DLCs would be region free.

I'm playing on the hardest available difficulty, and the one thing that's giving me trouble is the healing, I need money to buy food and drinks

Starting to regret spending so much of my money on cards, but Gwent is so much fun.

Did you equip it to one of the slots to the right? That skill does indeed give free health regen during the day, albeit slow. Still, it makes that restriction completely pointless.

I'm about to pick the game up, but I have a feeling I'll share the same sentiment. As much as I love RPGs, I get overwhelmed when there are too many types of items, crafting etc. Sort of gets in the way IMO.

Really on the fence. I was so hyped for the game but it sort of fell off for some reason. I should stop thinking about it and just go get it.

Almost 6 hours and I'm just
fighting the griffin.

Damn, this game really stokes the sidequesting fire in me. Every time a ? or ! pops up on the map, I abandon everything I'm doing and head straight there.

I don't think i equipped it. I'll check that out when i get back to it. I was hoping it would help.

Disabling subtitles also prevents you from seeing translations for Nilfgaardian and other fictional languages. I don't like seeing dialogue all over the screen but not being able to understand some people might be worse.
