don't remember a thing of witcher 2's story

my memory is a bit hazy..geralt becomes a wild hunt rider to save yennefer that was taken by them right?but how they got yennefer in the first place?

Books end with Geralt getting impaled on a pitchfork and "dying". Yennefer tries to save him but also "dies" in the process. Ciri and her unicorn friend save both their lives and transport them to a save haven magical place with an ever growing apple tree or something.

Wild Hunt rocks up and steals Yennefer. Geralt gives pursuit and tracks them across the the Continent, discovering the hunt is collecting children from villages but nobody anywhere near Yennefer's age. He bumps into Letho, saves his life, and Letho returns the favour by helping him track the Wild Hunt since his Witcher school has a library of knowledge on the wraiths and he suspects correctly where they'll end up.

Climatic battle with Wild Hunt ensures where Geralt realises they're not wraiths as they bleed like anybody else. He can't win, but offers Eridin, King of the Wild Hunt, his life in return for Yennefer's. Eridin accepts, Yennefer returns is free'd though with amnesia, and Geralt goes off to ride with the hunt.

He awakens sometime later on the outskirts of Kaer Morhen with no memory of who he is or what happened.

thanks..the missing spot was the part between geralt being impaled and yennefer getting captured..i don't remember ciri being mentioned even once in the second game right?

Iirc, neither Yennefer nor Ciri was in Witcher 2 at all. I played through that game twice (never played the original) and I didn't know who they were prior to playing Witcher 3.

Yennefer is mentioned numerous times when
Geralt is regaining his memory and when Letho tells him about his past.

There really should be a meditate without refilling your stock option. I hate it when I waste an alcholest to refill one bomb I never use in combat anyway because I blew up a monster nest earlier :(

But does it matter in the end?
I have 99x two stacks of each hard alcohol because the game puts in alcholest/dwarf spirit all over the dang place.
It is so annoying to carry them and selling them every few hours since you hardly use them, even on Death March difficulty.

A bartender recounts a tale that implies Ciri in the first game, and she's both implied and (I think) name dropped in Assassins of Kings during one of Geralt's memory flashbacks. The one where he remembers who saved him and Yennefer.

As much as I love CDPR's writing both the first and second game occasionally stumble by throwing out new information that to folk unfamiliar with the books will go right over their head as it's never referenced again. Geralt regaining memories of tracking the hunt and having Letho assist him are logical and easy to understand, but suddenly going "OH AND THEN CIRI SAVED US" makes absolutely no sense to those who've only played the games. CDPR have, at times, stumbled a bit with the balance of assumed and presented knowledge given the two audiences involved.

But Ciri's importance is never stated in either of the games, and Yennefer only becomes relevant by memory in the second. I feel what happened is that CDPR started their franchise with as much of a clean slate as possible: Witcher universe game set post-books, starring the lead protagonist, memory wiped to disconnected from book events, and the cast mostly composed by supporting characters. Yennefer and especially Ciri are the most important characters in the books and they're nowhere to be found until Wild Hunt. The first game could stand alone for most part as it's own adventure with or without book knowledge. Assassins of Kings starts getting heavier into the book stuff, mostly when it comes to Yennefer, and even then that's just a backdrop to Geralt's memory rather than anything direct. Wild Hunt on the other hand is a full sequel to both the game arc and the book arc.

You're a big guy.
No. I should say one of the free DLCs is probably gwent cards. "Probably" because they haven't been formally announced, but there's a gwent cards dlc=true line of code in one of the config files, alongside the Yennefer alternate outfit.

Assuming that's accurate, there's also an alternative outfit for both Triss and Ciri coming too. That's all we know.

Well the gwent trophy description refers to the base game or something to that end, so clearly some gwent will be appearing in DLC form.

Really loving this game. I was worried that the open world would diminish the tight, atmospheric experiences of the previous games but it hasn't at all. I'm impressed with how well integrated side and main quest content is. Though nothing has yet to match the incredible Salamanca quest from 1.

that clean slate is probbaly why the author is so dismissing of the games.
that being said..in this game, given the wider scope, they managed to add some more exposition here and there, like when

you have to tell your memories of ciri to the oniromancer..that is used to give to the player some info about the relationship and previous history between ciri and geralt

Anyone know where I can find an armorer and a smith that can craft the Griffin gear (basic - level 10)?
I still have a fair few areas to explore in Velen.

60 hours, 17% complete. Lol.

Another complaint:
Holy shit do you lose a lot of health from falling. Can be really annoying (and unfair) in space where you have a ton of enemies and you get knocked off of a not very high area.
Press jump again just before landing and he'll roll instead.

How the balls do you craft more bombs? I'm in the crafting screen and it's telling me that I already have them. So I infer from this that there must be some other way of refilling the bombs after you craft them the first time. But I can't for the life of my find it. I'm sitting on top of a monster nest playing with my dick until I can figure it out.

You don't. Everything classified under alchemy (potions/bombs/oils/etc) need only be crafted once to be permanently added to your inventory. You meditate to use one bottle of alcohol to refill/restock everything.

bombs refill with alcohol every time you meditate
so you only need to craft them once, than just meditate to restock them

p.s. what's the logic behind that though?why one bottle of alcohol=bombs? ?_?

In any event, it's going to be super interesting to see where they go next. It's a shame we'll be waiting a minimum of 4 years to hear anything about The Witcher 4. Starring
Ciri and some other words to pad out what may be a spoiler
of course.

well seeing as how successful The Wild Hunt is turning out to be, Warner Bros could push for quicker development times.

Lol what?

Ok game, whatever you say.

Does meditation heal me too? I've been carrying around 200 lbs of rotting dog flesh to heal me thus far. If it does that would explain a lot.

Warner have no ownership of the franchise and thus no control over the series future. They were a collaborative publisher for NA, and that's it.

Any difficulty other than Blood and Broken Bones, and Death March, yes meditation will heal you.

Maybe. But I'm super interested in Cyberpunk too. I mean, something with the scale of Wild Hunt but in a cyberpunk setting? It's never been tried before.

Basically, I want a magic world where both games can come out in like, 3 years. And also not suck from concurrent development. And possibly make me candy.

Just to simplify it I guess. In Witcher 2 you have to create them using ingredients every time. I can see how herb/monster hunting every time your potions/bombs ran out is frustrating. They should at least separate between potions/oils/bombs though.

yeah,i know why they have done that..and it was actually a good decision since there are so many materials than having to craft everything it would be a nightmare (with the alternative being an alchemy system where the more you suse it the better you get,so with use it would become easier to refill your stock, insted of limiting it with the skill system in the game)

i just don't understand why alcohol of all things

Final question: Should I hang onto my starting stuff? I sold my witcher steel sword just recently but I can run back and rebuy it if it's worth keeping.

I don't really understand upgrades or anything yet.

i don't use galaxy so it tells me "not yet played"..would that update if i pass through galaxy once?

I used the Gog code, so my copy is essentially from Gog, even tho I installed via discs. Not sure if it'll give you the details if you don't have a Gog copy.

oh. so they're technically indie devs?

Technically, they are publically traded indie devs.

But yes, CDP and CDP only decided what happens with Witcher and Cyberpunk, depending on their contracts with Mike Pondsmith and Andrzej Sapkowski of course.

CD Projekt began as a publisher for games and other stuff in Poland. They've been around since the mid 90s. They entered game development in the early 2000's by opening CD Projekt RED, acquiring the right to The Witcher book franchise. GOG came a couple of years later, which is their successful legacy/old game distribution platform.

I believe to fund their games they've taken loans from banks or whatever (someone else will know better), but yeah, they're not tied to or owned by any publisher. Wild Hunt, for example, was published by Bandai Namco in Europe and Australia.

So yeah, to their benefit they don't have to answer to Warner or any other publisher when it comes to "make more Witcher".

i sold everything when i had the choice...the upgradable armors are the ones of the three witcher schools (there is also the viper school one,but it isn't upgradable)..so anything other than those three armors and sword sets you can sell them without missing anything i think

yeah i would, am i wrong?

by definition indie means small group of indipendent developers..yes they are independent,no they are not small.

otherwise even big publishers would "technically" being indie, they are independent, they do publish their own games

EDIT:dammit double post,sorry

i do have a gog copy
just used the drm free version and not the galaxy one, since i had to restart the download with galaxy so many times that it wasn0't evven funny anymore :p

Also I feel like this is such a shitty outcome and I should just load up a save.

Nvm the merchants dont seem to remember what you sold them. So I can't get the sword back. Sigh.

Well, in the most technical sense yes, as in indie being short of independent, and they're independent of a publisher.

But what we usually call indie these days... no not really. They're still a large publicly traded company and they have shareholders which puts them in one kind of a leash.

Most elves in the game, especially Scoia'tael warriors, have lean figures irrespective of gender. Iorveth in TW2 has a classically elven, if scarred, "pretty" look.. Aen Elle elves tend to look more unorthadox and, in the case of the Wild Hunt, stronger/buffer but I assume that's deliberate. Cerys hardly looks like a model princess, make up excluded. Sorceresses all doll up for specific lore/setting reasons. Ciri is really the only the odd one out.
The game does have some really nice minor character models, but main characters' designs follow different rules.
Cerys is rad and so are those NPC girls with large noses, but they're minor, non-marketable and non-ploughable characters and that's why they get to look different. Elihal also stood out, but not only was he a minor character, he was basically a punchline.
Iorveth was nice (though it's not like he was a male model with a strategically unbuttoned shirt), but he was also in a game where female leads didn't HAVE to wear high heels.
Sorceresses doll up, except for Triss, who couldn't even fix herself with magic until CD Projekt Red came in and "improved" her. Meanwhile, Geralt's entire body is still a huge mess of scars.

Nvm the merchants dont seem to remember what you sold them. So I can't get the sword back. Sigh.

Yes they do. You can buy it back. It's extremely expensive though.

And I'm pretty sure Witcher Steel/Silver Sword is a rather common drop, anyway, and I don't think it's worth upgrading. If the item says "Witcher Gear" (in the place where it may say "Magic Item" or "Relic"), it can be upgraded.
