The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

assuming you finished the quest:

You seem to be missing that it's
a very complex character where in any other game they'd make the wife beater a fucking monster of a character who deserves no redemption while in this game they made him this incredibly flawed human character who even though he's a horrible human being for the things he did, he's also this man who gave Ciri and this other girl a home and treated them super nicely. His wife isn't exactly a saint either by constantly cheating on him and telling a man who adored her that she didn't love him.

It was an incredibly complex family situation that really emphasizes the writing of CDPR when they want to get serious. Shit like this isn't seen in media often.
Well, I mean I agree with everything you said, I suppose I just didn't compare it to other games. It was a superb quest no doubt.

The ending mostly. What ending did you have?
I went with the Baron and we saved his wife, they left so she could get rehabilitated.

Is Skellige different visually from Velen?
The audiovisual experience is totally different. The colors get more vibrant, the forests seem a bit more lively to me (I noticed neat little details like woodpeckers), there's snow, mountains, and amazing Gaelic-inspired music.

That
Keira
pic, holy shit. Radovid is utter filth.
This makes Dijkstra's argument all the more compelling.

Regarding the outcomes for this particular character, the game is a bit of an asshole as it's very easy to go from one to the other.
In your last conversation, if you tell her going to see Radovid is suicide, you can save her but if you tell her something like "Radovid won't welcome you with open arms", you end up fighting her.

It's weird although
telling her it's suicide sounds more like a logical reason not to whereas the other makes it seem like you're calling her an idiot.

I could never find them, but there's definitely woodpeckers in Velen. I heard them!

re: Keira & Radovid.

The 2nd revealed that Radovid has a pretty big sorceress complex, though cheaply painted IMO.
He seened to have a lot of fun when he ordered Philippa's eyes to be gouged out with a spoon
. I don't think I know anyone sane enough to send Keira his way remembering that.

I went with the Baron and we saved his wife, they left so she could get rehabilitated.

Some got a different ending:
they arrived to find the village of Downwarren massacred by the free'd tree spirit, and upon marching on the orphanage discover the crones have punished the wife for letting the children escape (tree spirit saves them) by transforming her into a water hag and caging her up. You can attempt to remove the curse on the wife by selecting the right voodoo doll in their secret chamber, but even so realise that despite reversing the mutilation the real curse is that she's doomed to die imminently. She dies, and the baron leaves telling you to collect the reward at Crow's Perch. Riding to Crow's Perch you enter the Baron's main square to find him hung from a tree, having given into depression, his wife dead and his daughter wanting nothing to do with him, nothing left to live for.

Alright I seem to be glitched,

I'm trying to do the The Count Reuven's Quest but when I talk to
DIjkstra all he talks about is Phillipa Earnhart.

wtf, all I want is to find Ciri.

Good LORD...the way these quests intertwine and result in varying outcomes is spectacular. That's fantastic work.

Really love the pacing of this game.

Each night I have picked a secondary quest and finished it off. Cool little storylines going on with these secondary quests and the level required for each quest makes it easy to choose one.

Decided to explore and tackle a bunch of grey quests until the XP glitch fix is out.

Finally got the Ursine armor. Looks so good. Mixed it with the Enhanced Feline Gauntlets and Enhanced Feline Trousers since that allowed for a higher armor rating than the base Ursine and helps with Stamina regen. The pants are covered by the Ursine cloth so the mismatch doesn't show and the gloves go with it well. Probably going to stick with the combination of the two.

Lol god damn it Geralt and this game

quest spoilers

You go from a funeral to playing in the snow with Ciri and you see them having fun. haha. God damn this game. the Feels. I love it.

Whats the deal with the King of the Wild Hunt? Why is he the way he is, with that air of total insanity about him? Whats this dude's end game, does he want to do anything other than murder, murder, murder, kill, kill, kill?

My God.

I've probably spent 8 hours on average every day after release. This is why we have summer holidays in this world.

I started to play games back in 89 or 90 and only Shadows of Amn and Kotor have been as immersive.

This game is intertwined with necromancy. I should probably be dead already but somehow my body is still operating at full capacity.

didn't realize this until I went back and watched some Witcher 2 footage, but they really went all-in on the Bale Batman voice for Geralt this time, huh? it does work well for the character tho.

Yea I think I got a good ending there.
Ended up going to the Crones' place with the Baron, daughter forgave him, saving his wife and they left together, embracing each other so she could get rehabilitated.

Yeah but on this path all those kids got eaten... There is no "true" happy ending to this line.

By the way is the feline gear quest glitched for anyone? I found the first piece in that abandoned building on the way to Novigrad which prompted the quest. Went to my quest to enable the quest and it doesn't point me to any locations, nothing. I found the sword randomly while exploring a cavern but it didn't update the quest at all, still says "1/7 pieces found"...

I have this habit of talking to myself far too often, so I really connect with Geralt's deep self-monologues :p

I've been spending more like an hour each day before or after work, and then doing nothing but TW3 all weekend. Work be damned :(

I also have to write a paper on business secrets within the local court system but deadlines be damned. Witcher 3 takes priority over such mundane activities.

Pillars of Eternity was a solid game but story wise you can't even make a comparison. I wish Bioware still made games like SoA.

I thought it was a good ending as well, until you consider :
the kids basically got eaten by the crones, the villagers hung themselves, with the baron gone from the keep the locals are getting raped and pillaged and the wife may not be ok, I wish we got some closure there.

I don't think there is a good ending to that quest line just different degrees of bad, was a fantastic journey though.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I will probably get banned if I keep posting when I get upset. Using GAF as a place to vent my frustrations is not the best idea Im sure.

Nevertheless, as much as I love this game, and yes I absolutely love it, I must say that I really truly can't recall a game that has unleashed my gamers rage worse than this game.

This is coming from someone who recently platinumed Bloodborne (although I used COOP and was overleveled for much of the game) so I am used to playing tough games.

Anyway, there is no way to say it, but the combat in this game is a complete and utter disaster. I seriously have no idea how anyone can beat the game on the higher difficulties. The mechanics can be just that frustrating.

What's wrong with it? In wide open spaces and one on one, its bearable, because you can often create enough room between you and your enemies to manage the fight but it completely falls apart when you are fighting multiple enemies in small tight spaces. The camera will often put you in an awkward position where you can't see the enemies and/or Geralt which will often lead to multiple enemies getting good shots. And you end up having to frantically roll around to try to reposition yourself so you can get a good angle AND get enough space to use one of your sign powers just to create a tiny bit of breathing room. I find that the parry and dodge mechanics rarely work like they're supposed to. The dodge rarely gets me far enough to avoid enemy attacks.

It wouldn't be so ridiculously bad if you weren't stuck with the slowest health regin system in existence (yes, even with the enhancements). It's just abhorrent that in those situations where you get cheesed by so many enemies and then hope you've got enough breathing room. Games like Bloodborne, when I died I mostly felt like it was my fault, but in those moments the game mostly plays fair.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game and believe it will easily be a GotY contender, but those moments where you get screwed by shitty combat mechanics can be extremely frustrating.

Other minor complaints:
1. Some of these quest lines seem to go on and on and on. Go talk to this guy for info, do a job to get more info, get info to go to another person for more info, do tasks for new person to get more info, read a book to find out that you still have more to do.

2. why the hell do you take so much damage when falling off a ledge? Falling five feet knocks off 20% of your health.

3. Fast travel should be more like Fallout instead of having to run to the nearest sign.

holy shit. I did that part just now. What are the hours people are putting in to get to the climax and conclusion of the main story? Ive heard 60 and 80 hours of gameplay thrown about.
I finished it today at 70 hours, and skipped a bunch of the gwent and fist fighting quests. Also didn't venture out to a lot of the areas of interest, so I probably missed a few side quests there.

Radovid is a piece of shit of unbelievable magnitude.

Is he though? The Lodge of Sorceress' are responsible for the assassination of his father and a good amount of the other monarchs. All in a plot for them to be able to regain political power after having been disbanded initially because they meddled too much in the politics of their respective Kings.

What I like about Radovid is that game actually gives a multilayered explanation of why he is the way he is. Im not making excuses for the man's behaviour, but being a child subject to the whims and manipulations of a comprehensive bitch like Phillipa Eilhart would probably turn a lot of people into hateful human beings. I can understand where his hateful impulses come from, even as I find them grotesque.

I honestly cannot believe how good all the Baron's quests were. Simply incredible. The writing, the decisions, how it all comes together, all the different facets and layers of emotions it draws on...just...fantastic.

I'm content with the result I got, which was the
Baron taking Anna to the healer (I have faith she can be healed) and his daughter going off with her band, at least with an air of sympathy hope left in the midst. Even though the Baron was a bastard, I did feel for him, and genuinely feel he has the capacity to change. There's deep pain in him, and what appears to be an absolute commitment to change his ways. He's even been off the drink since the baby burial, and breaking the habit is the first massive step. Guess we'll see.

His response to all this is to harbour the Knights of the Flaming Rose and their witch hunters and actively endorses their unjust prejudice against and massacre of all practitioners of magic and non-humans.

So yes, even if him and his family have been wronged by individuals and organisations, he is a piece of shit.

EDIT: And I mean, this is one of the most important themes of the Witcherverse: power corrupts and almost everyone given an inch takes a mile at the expense of others. Nilfgaard under Emyr are ruthless enforcers. Radovid is a terrible king who endorses oppression. The lodge is made up of members who willingly exploit and corrupt individuals to attain power. Everyone is a piece of shit.

Are all mages part of The Lodge or just a handful?

Yup. I had the same ending. Loved every bit of it. They handled such a controversial subject so admirably.

I agree. Instead of finding those directly responsible for the death of his father, he goes after anyone that bears any sort of trait or resemblance to those responsible for the death. He is a madman no doubt.
