So, how do abilities work, exactly? The game said that only the ones I put in the slots are active, but I just got the alt-fire for Aard and I can make it work even without the skill for it slotted. Is this some weird exception?

So I think I finally ran into the dreaded XP glitch. Just finished the last part of the
Family Matters
quest and got 0 XP. Thankfully I manually saved before initiating the final sequence and so I can go back.

Any ETA on the patch?

And finally is there anything fun to do there then Gwent that won't hurt my XP development?

The million ?s on the map?

The xp bug was never a blanket thing where you don't get xp anymore. It affects random quests with no rhyme or reason. You will get xp for one, then no xp for the next for example, the xp again etc

Right, but do you understand that the way it is effecting some people, you don't receive experience for any main or secondary quests, even ones at your level? I played around with multiple saves trying to see what might trigger it and had one where I stopped getting experience at all, and it didn't kick in at any point after I kept playing for several hours. Luckily, someone on the CDPR forums detailed the steps they went through and how they started getting experience again at a certain point in the main quest. I had a different save at the same point, so I followed their steps and it worked, where it hadn't worked on a different save with different secondary quests completed in a different order.

And finally is there anything fun to do there then Gwent that won't hurt my XP development?
If you still have them on the map, traveling the world and exploring might be a good way to continue playing. Discover more fast-travel markers, maybe some useful POIs with loot, practice your skills, get to new towns? Those still give me XP, and I have the bug.

Cant those lead to XP though?

The xp bug is for quests only and even then it's random not all quests

These xp thing is growing completely out of proportion

Also contracts seem safe, I'll test this myself later since I have one to hand in

Good to know. Ill check out some monster nests or something and test it to make sure.

I looked a bit more into it, and I think it's be a weird-ass bug: The Aard alt ability has the border indicating it's slotted, even in older saves where I don't have it acquired. Here'll be a video when it uploads.
I posted something about this a few days ago. In my game I got all the benefits of alchemy skills without having them slotted, but I wasn't sure if it was a glitch or some exception for certain skills.

Those side activities barely give any xp anyway. What is it, 40xp for nests, 120xp for liberated camps. Still there's so many that it adds up

I spent like three hours yesterday traveling the map and I was getting a decent bit of XP from removing monster nests and freeing Abandoned Sites. Something like 120-150 for the Sites I think.

Yeah, I did 4 contracts and a good portion of the main quests and I got XP for all of them. I'd like to say it's isolated to secondary quests but then again I've seen people say they didn't get anything for main quests.

It deffinately affects main story quests.

I never thought that was a glitch. The alt Aard sign ability and a couple mutegen abilities just don't need to be in a slot to be activated.

If I'm not mistaken you should be able to perform the alt Aard sign, but you won't get the benefits of the leveled up ability unless you slot it.

...Or I'm completely wrong and it is in fact a glitch.

Is there a particular store or method that makes it easier to sell off your shit? These fuckers are all poor as fuck.

Question after "A Matter of Life and Death" side quest:
If I kissed Triss, does this mean I can't romance Yennefer?

Also:
How can anyone romance Yen after that amazing scene of drunk Triss? It was cute as heck, people.

i've read people suggesting meditating five days to replenish the merchant's stock and money.

Yrden's alt version is a rune that you place on the ground and shoots out lightning periodically at foes within its radius, but it also shoots down all arrows shot in its radius. Set one down and fight within its radius and you will never be hit by an arrow.

yeah that's a good idea but will take some time in order to reach that perk.

I know that but there are times where there are a ton of enemies and they rush you while the archers are out of view. And the arrows having tracking.

kissing triss doesn't lock you in the relationship.
Just like the
unicorn scene
doesn't lock you to Yen

if you're still unsure as to which lady to pursue, you can postpone Triss' personal mission
Now or Never
and move on with the main story until you reach Yen's
the last wish

You can but if you do
Geralt ends up alone in the end if you romance both.

Another reason why it's amazing

Why would you think that a random alt mode for a spell not needing to be slotted while the others do wasn't a glitch?

I'm tempted to start keep a specific save file right before every witcher contract hunt... and later maybe making sure that Geralt is at (or maybe just below) the recommended level, wearing 'average' gear, just so that I can go back and do this monster hunts and battles on a whim on Death March whenever I feel like it...

The combat in this game is so satisfying. It's not the smoothest or most technical, but I really enjoy the way it rewards preparation, weaknesses, and basically approaching different monsters in different ways. I've probably done and replayed my top four or five of my favorite contract hunts over 4 times now.

Yyrden alt is amazing, shame it takes quite a long time to set it up. But I guess it'd be unfair if it weren't that long.

Okay, so I'm seeing conflicting things here, I think.
So, if I try to romance Yen having kissed Triss, Geralt ends up being a sad person in the end? And viceversa with the unicorn thing? So if I want Geralt to end up with someone, I should just continue with Triss, or not kiss Triss and go on with Yen?

Okay Archers are ridiculously op. Can't freaking see them sometimes and they do stupid am out of damage m

And their arrows somehow someway go through solid trees hitting Geralt. Yeah, I hate the archers too!!

Has anyone done the '
Path of Warriors
' (non-story related) sidequest? The jumping seems pretty much broken for me, I can't get Geralt to grab onto ledges at all, I couldn't in the first half of this quest and had to just essentially glitch my way past them using non-climbable geometry.

I've added a video of me trying to do this particular section: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI1SfU1y1Ro (not sure why the video isn't entirely smooth, something up with shadowplay, I think, it was perfect in game, 100fps+, low consistent frametimes).

Romance spoilers:
I told Triss I loved her, went to Skaligrad and fucked Yen on the horse, and still stayed in a relationship with Triss. There is a very clear point in a side quest of Yen's where you need top set boundries with Yennifer one way or the other. Just don't tell both women you love them

Are you in Novigrad yet? Most of that city's merchants have 1000+ crowns on them by default.

I have to say, I really miss the early game economy. Poor merchants, struggling to afford my own gear repairs. I'm at the point where money will NEVER be an issue again and that kinda sucks because it's the exact opposite of what being a witcher is supposed to feel like.

No. Don't listen to the other guy he's wrong haha.

you decide which lady to romance in their personal quests. Now or Never for Triss and The Last Wish for Yen. Triss takes slightly more effort to romance because it requires certain things to succeed if you decide to pursue it, kissing her being one of them.

You can kiss Triss AND have the unicorn scene with Yen without affecting either relationship. The shit that decides the relationship and whether you end up alone is if you tell one girl you want to be with them in their personal quest and do the same for the other.

You can slowly push with it though like you were playing an RTS setting up seige units. Cast 1 Yrden far out use it to protect you as you cast a different one closer to the enemy at the edge of the previous' defense radius, rinse repeat.

Oh, so that's the limit,
when you tell one of them you love her
. Really want to know for sure, to know where to save and see what changes when I go back (specially since I don't want to play another 50 hours just to get there again).

Why not? My Geralt is far from monogamous :D Plus that ending is fitting, I thought.

Oh, just saw your post. Thanks a lot! However
doing what I'm doing changes the ending? EDIT: I mean the kiss scene or the unicorn scene, or sex scenes, or whatever
