Anyone know when you reach the point of no return in the main story campaign? Where once you go past that point, you will no longer be able to go back into open world questing and exploration? Still have a lot of exploration left to do, but feel I must be getting to the end of the storyline soon.

So came across my second encampment with someone locked in a cage, and both times i cant find the key. killed everyone nearby, looted all there gear and nothing ?

Are these something i find later and have to come back to ?

Key is usually on one of the enemies there

or when in doubt, witcher sense and look for the red

Please someone explain to me how to get good at the combat, its so fucking frustrating. So hard to tell when to counter, and I can't beat the god damn
wild hunt warrior with Kiera. Every time I try to roll away he fucking hits me. Playing on swor and story.

How the fuck is this first bear set a level 16 quest and you have to fight a level 23 alghoul?

Bear set focuses on vitality so it assumes you are using a tank spec and you could handle it...

...or its another example of fucked up level placements :p

All twohanders can be exploited.
Heavy, immediately backdash, heavy, backdash, repeat.

dont try and counter monster attacks, it really only works with humans. When it comes to monsters, dodging is preferred, leaves you in range for a fast attack. Took me a while to warm up to it but I am pretty good at it now.

Maybe both, I'm level 17 which is 1 level up for the recommended but the Alghouls guarding the Silver Sword diagram are 21. In addition you're ambushed by a level 23 once you clear a path.

Playing on Death March.

This ain't fair brah

I'm going to be wiping my hard drive tonight, and I am assuming GOG Galaxy doesn't back up saves like Steam does.

Where does TW3 save and how do I back it up?

So what is this EXP bug I heard? Quests not giving up EXP?

I am about to begin playing this but would rather wait since I am OCD about getting rewards from quests even if it's just 10 XP or something, hahaha.

It has nothing to do with any patches. While there seem to be some edge cases of people with the bug incredibly early in the game or much later, the vast majority of what I've seen mentioned (and experienced myself) are the main missions in Novigrad.

Didn't they say that they were going to fix this in version 1.5 so that these quests indeed do give the expected EXP? It's just that if you've already finished them that they wont "backdate" the exp you should have gained.

Therefore I'm waiting for the patch before I complete the quests because I want that EXP.

Before I found out about this I believe I finished probably 5 - 10 quests and quest parts without getting the EXP and I'm surely at least 2 or 3 levels lower than I should be for what I have completed. I'm going to be seriously irked if I can't get to level 60.

Whenever this has happened for me I have had to re-load an earlier save and go and do this fight again.

Edit: Dammit I hate it when that happens, sorry for the double post.

No one is getting to level 60. Without expansions even 40 seems hard.

Damn. Seriously? I will get there, I suppose if it's intended to be that way, but I'll fight monsters and get 1xp at a time to get there if I have to :p (that is perhaps I am deceiving myself).

I'm going armour hunting today. I don't care if they're way higher level than me I'm going to do whatever I can to get all of the gear diagrams.

Man I'm gonna have to remove the weight limit, soon enough I won't be able hold all these upgraded armor sets, and I only have superior griffin and enhanced feline. I have 100 pounds of crafting materials though...Worried I'll get rid of something I might end up needing. :p

There REALLY should be a chest or something you can find in inns were you can store your shit. I don't understand why the game doesn't have that.

I'm about 11 hours in and decided I want to restart (I think I missed an early gwent card and made a choice in a quest I didn't want to make). Am I an idiot for waiting for the patch? Should I just get going?

Only if you don't play on Death March. Doooooo it.

Alright I'm just projecting here. I'm on Broken Bones and I wish I had restarted to play on DM.

You can change the difficulty on the fly

This is probably my only serious complaint about the game. Chest guarded by a lvl 31 Cyclops and the reward? A lvl 20 sword whilst I am lvl 24. What? Why? Now I don't even bother with the chests because they are never worth it. Make the Witcher Armour and Swords and ignore everything else. Even that, as you know, is skewed towards unbalanced enemies/loot etc.
It should have been done another way. Hopefully it can be modded.

I love how many secondary quests in this game involve killing a group of bandits and then finding a letter on one of them that's basically like "I've almost stolen enough money to save the orphanage / pay for my mother's life saving surgery!" I feel guilty but not guilty enough to reload my game.

Also the XP bug went away on one of my saves and I've been able to progress again! My advice to people effected by it is to see if you have a lot of grey low level quests in your queue, and clear out a few. Then progress the main story a bit... after a couple story quests, experience kicked in again, and I even got delayed experience from a story quest that hadn't given me any. It seems especially bad in Novigrad where Main and Secondary quests overlap quite a bit but have varied recommended level requirements. I think if you get assigned a secondary quest via the main question but are over leveled for the former, it bugs out experience on the main quest.

The xp bug was never a blanket thing where you don't get xp anymore. It affects random quests with no rhyme or reason. You will get xp for one, then no xp for the next for example, the xp again etc
