It should prompt a quest failed note with a pretty audible sound. Outside of that, the one bit where I could have failed a quest by advancing the story the game simply told me that advancing would mean failing some quests.

I failed two quests but it was pretty obvious I was going to fail them by advancing/doing other stuff semi related but in those cases the game doesn't really tell you beforehand, just gives you the quest failed notification.

Okay cool. Thanks for the info. I feel a little better. :)

The red [x] within a quest doesn't mean that it failed, but that you got to the next step earlier, thus making the previous step redundant. When you already found you are looking for, you don't need to go back and look for it. It's just that.

Yeah. I've failed the quest where you help the scavengers fight the ghouls on the battlefield near the bridge in Velen.
It shows up in a seperate section called 'Failed' in the Quests page.

An on going quest that has a red cross next to one of the objectives just means you failed or skipped one of the objectives.
I got one of those in Wandering in the Dark because I didn't use Witcher Senses in a particular room. I was still able to complete the quest.

finally did enough main quest stuff to get to level 14 and wear the feline armor I crafted long ago

damn. now I just wanna go through the game fistfighting. this is some kung fu shit

It's not a failed quest. It's a failed objective that has a stupid "red x" next to it. Reason im thinking of quitting is because I know that it will keep happening throughout the game.

After visiting the Garrison commander, you're supposed to meet with the hunter Mislav and search that area for dead soldiers. That's failed with a "red x" and that character is somehow someway dead. I have no clue how or when that happened.

You're overreacting a bit. Missing an objective just means it's redundant to go back and do it because you already have whatever info that objective was going to give you. I've had this happen once in my 50 hours of play and it was in White Orchard at the beginning. Even if it does happen again it's not something to worry about.

Man the lighting in this game is incredible. I often have to stop what I'm doing and admire the view, even a week into the game.

If you click on other parts of the objective, it'll target those individually. Mislav dying is weird... definitely a bug.

Ps4 patch incoming to US right? Found a late game dialogue but where love interest won't even initiate conversation with you. Didn't see it in changelog but maybe it fixes itself with the patch. Guide confirms there should be new conversation in this area and she's the only character refusing to speak.

I beat the game but have a save there so I'll check.

Speaking of little red X's,this was probably answered but this thread still moves fast...when looking at the minimap while exploring, there is a lot of little red triangle marks that appear for a few seconds, lots of times close to the plant icon...was is it....?

Okay, The Play's the Thing was a new high point of the game for me.
I totally botched my lines while my wife was laughing her ass off. It's another great thing about this game: there's so much dialogue and exploration that it's pleasant to watch.
My favorite part of that quest is choosing who
plays the princess. You can choose either the younger, attractive option (the game's words, not mine) of Priscilla or the seasoned veteran of Irina who is more talented. There is a clear difference in the voicework with who you choose as Priscilla definitely comes off greener to the stage and more excited while Irina is more professional and good.

Little touches like that are why this game is amazing.

Triangle indicates different elevation, X indicates loot.

PS4 patch 1.03 is out in the UK.
It says there are performance improvements in cut scenes and in game (amongst lots of other things).
Anybody noticed a difference yet?

Mastercraft feline armor looks dumb as hell. Basically the only armor I like in the game is regular Ursine, regular Griffin, and mastercrafted Ursine. :(

Try saving and reloading. I had this happen with a shopkeeper and reloading the save fixed it.

Haven't beat her yet, thanks for the tip. I'm alt-tabbed out with the game still going.

I've now fought her 27 times in a row and I've never got her past the first notch in her health bar. Ugh.

I wish this was Skyrim so I could just bring up the console turn on God mode and be done with this bullshit fight.

I curb stomped her on hard at the same level as she was without getting hit a single time, here's how I did it:

Moon Bomb is the key, throw that puppy at her and you don't have to bother with Yrden or whatever the trap sign is called. You hit her with that which she's weak to and then start wailing on her with your quick attack. If you rabidly slash her with quick attack, it constantly staggers her and she can't get an attack in. She does eventually kinda warp back to create the clones when her health is low, at this point your run away from the clones and wait until they disappear, you don't have to kill them and they only heal her if you're near them. Once they go away and she comes after you, hit her with your second moon bomb and wail away that last bit of her health with quick attacks. Easy peasy! GL!

In one of the side quests there is a wall that am obviously need to go through, when I use the witcher senses it gives me an icon likes like the sun.

what does it mean? I can't break the wall with aard or igni am stuck.

it's in a dungeon full of triangle shaped cheese
It's an illusion. You'll get an item to dispell them fairly early in the main quest.

The only quest I've failed is gangs of novigrad.

I'm not too bitter over it because I honestly don't even remember what it was about but I knew it was related to
whoreson junior which I had just talked to radovid about

Reloaded the save and went to talk to the dwarf but he told me to sod off and it failed anyways so i was like lol okay guess I deserve that.

I just had one of the coolest moments in the game. It was when I was doing a Witcher's Contract in Skellige, and when I went to collect my reward, I was thrown right into a new sidequest, which then lead to another new sidequest, that in the end, tied into the main story somewhat. All in all, what started out as a simple Witcher's Contract lead to an hour long questline.

I did. Over and over again. Before when nothing was appearing on top of their heads i would meditate or reload and it would work. This is more like she's stuck in "we're walking right now" dialogue during quests where attempts to talk result in them basically telling you not right now.

Right now googling it seems like I'm the only one. Or nobody who has asked has gotten that far.

I failed that one too. It's basically just an alternative quest to investigating and I personally enjoy investigating.

The only one I'm annoyed about is one Defender of the Faith because i thought the option I chose would allow for a more interesting conclusion. Even though Geralt could easily go back and fix it, the quest is done. Got some funny dialogue out of it though.

just started playing this game yesterday. I finished the baron story line and am currenlty doing the witch storyline. I was able to upgrade some armor at the bloody baron (im only level 4), and now I look like a damn jester. wheres a good place to get armors early on?

Stupid lame question -

Does anyone have the Prima guide? And if so, does it tell you how to complete the objectives without getting a "red x" symbol?

Once was once too many and drove me nuts which is why im asking about the guide. If I have to use a guide to get around that, so be it.

So is the playtime counter broken?
I checked it the other day, and it said 1 day 15 hours, and now that I've beaten the game I wanted to check my play time and it says 1 day 1 hour :T

Did you drink the respec potion perhaps? I did and afterwards my playtime was reset.

I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned before (in the old thread at least), but if you care about your "time played" stat being accurate at all you might not want to put your PS4 into Suspend mode.

Hoping CDPR has a fix for this incoming.

Yep I learned that when it says my ps4 playtime is 5 days, 23 hours.

I know I didn't not play it for that long. At most I played it for around a total of 3 days playtime (72 hours)

I have it but they don't go over every possible sidequest. Just plot important ones. So for stuff like gangs of novigrad they mention how to fully get it complete but it isn't necessary to advance the plot.

I'll be checking the thread to see when update hits north america for ps4. We didn't get 1.02 because it wasn't necessary but 1.03 has actual fixes. So it better not take forever.

God every time I have to play as Ciri I sigh, this isn't fun playing as her. I really hope there is not another Witcher game where she is the main character. I really dislike how people lust over a virtual character blinds them from seeing how much of a Mary Sue (and her gameplay is BORING).

I just finished
bloody baron
quests and i am level 13.
I still have bunch of side quests and locations, but next storyline quest
go to Novigrad
has suggested level 10. So if i keep playing sidequests i will make it even easier.
Am I playing this wrong? Should I just ignore side quests and locations until I finish the story?

I dislike how she's "the special" of the universe because god knows I don't need a Bioware power fantasy from CDPR (male fantasy aside). But I love Ciri as a character.

The GOG code is required for updates and DLC, however it's possible to install and play just the version of the game that comes on the disc. Clarified it a bit.

Here it is pure black. Harder to see the shadows and whathaveyou though.

I love it. thanks!

I went with
Irina. I thought Geralt's words when I chose her must have stung a bit as he says something like "looks aren't everything". I chose the drunk popular actor to play the Prince and I forgot to even check my lines before going on stage. All in all, it could have been far worse.

One thing I've noticed in the past few story missions, the Eternal Flame infiltration and this one, is how great the cutscene direction is at times. They make the engine shine with some really nice shots. Loved the opening and ending angles with the cat.

On a general note, I just remembered a line from a kid in a Novigrad mission, it was something like
"So that's why my mom tucked that Witcher in".
That made me chuckle.

I'm about 21 hours in and I've been doing a lot of missions in the wilderness, such as:

Johnny
Crones
Allgod

I haven't been to Novigrad yet. Am I missing anything by not have headed there yet?

The rest of the main quest game and many many interesting characters? Though take your time, there is no rush :)
