You'd be wrong.

The combat isn't anything like AC or Batman. Enemies don't attack one at a time to be chain countered to death nor does Geralt fly across the screen to meet his target no matter what. I mean, in all three you press the direction towards your enemy and attack. I guess.

I can probably only spring for one more $60 game this year. Should it be this? I don't have a massive history with RPGs, but I finished Mass Effect 2 and sunk 100 hours into Skryim and absolutely cherish both.

Edit: Clarification, PC version.

It's one of the best RPGs I've played. Pillars of Eternity impressed the hell out of me but this game is on another level. The quest design, dialogue, and reactivity outclass Skyrim in every way. It's not as ridiculous of a sandbox, but it's a better crafted game overall.

Biggest complaint for me is the responsiveness of the controls, but if your PC is powerful enough to run at a high framerate it alleviates that issue by a lot.

.....

my 980 does 60fps without breaking a sweat at 1080p, and that is even with hairworks. you have newest drivers?

I test a GPU like a maniac. I go straight to the worst possible conditions and batter it. Bog in the rain straight killt that 60fps dream. 60fps also not gonna happen@ 4k cause I was getting 30-40@ 3k just in a small town in Skellige. And yea I downloaded the newest drivers when I popped it in.

Some sections in TW3 are just like hell on earth for GPUs and 60fps. OC that baaaaaaby

In the process of OCing now lol

If it helps, you don't have to use magic to light them. You can just ignite them like every other candle/torch.

Gah I know, except that hitting X to light a fire source is finicky (or to open a chest for that matter), especially in the heat of battle, and I keep doing a roll instead. Super annoying battle. Oh well I will get it eventually.

Crossbow is OP against harpies. If you get the timing/distance right, you can pick them off repeatedly as they try to take off. <3
You think that's funny, managing to throw a Devil's Puff Ball at a harpy/siren/ekhidna hoverin right above you is like leaving a cloud of bug spray in the air.

They'll try to charge you only to consistently fall on the ground again.

Was chilling, listening to the windmill and watching the sun after getting my Viper set made and checking to make sure I completed everything. Apparently the game had made Lv 7 Deserters on the opposite side, didn't hear them until an arrow struck Geralt in the shoulder lol. Freaked me out for a second before I decided they just threw their lives away by interrupting my peace listening haha.

Despite being 5 Lv 7s and having the jump on my Lv 3 self, I then used the little cottage to my advantage. Taking the cowardly archer first as his friends trailed behind me, Threw Axii at the first comer, then blinded the 3 others with the Smoke bomb(Can't recall the name) as I danced death on the Axii'd with my new Viper Steel Sword. The others came to as I cleaved him clean from neck to opposite ribs. I Igni'd the first comer, as he fried I rolled, changed bombs and chucked the grapeshot to finish him and another in beautiful giblets. The final guy just lunged at me with the hatchet before I dodged and married his neck with my Steel sword and watched his stump geyser on the way down as the level 4 chimed across the side of the screen.

Think I'm ready to leave on that great note.

Harpies and Sirens are real easy to take down. You don't even need to use the crossbow, Just use Aard or Igni to knock them down and perform the one hit kill with your sword.

What time is it?

Not sure what your reply has to do with what you quoted. His assumption was wrong.

Regarding the comparison, you're welcome to disagree. Witcher 3 may not be as automated as those other games but that's the vibe I got instantly when I started playing and that really hasn't changed in the 30 hours since. Maybe's it's the slow motion finishers/dismemberments. I went right into Witcher 3 after playing Dark Souls 2 so I'm sure that has altered my perception.

Uh... could you share your issues with Roach? To me, he controls like a horse. I haven't had any issues using him to race around the map from quest to quest.

Don't tell me he has never stopped suddenly in the middle of nowhere with nothing in front of him. Or how he tends to teleport in annoying to reach or downright unreachable places. Or how after teleporting he just stays there on the spot and doesn't come to you.

The first one is the thing that annoys me the most, though. It has fucked me over in races many times.

What? No the witcher that wants you to help him avenge a dead friend

I didn't let him kill the guy so he was pissed lol
Yeah, that's Lambert, but he's not bald.

Depending on the situation, I usually try to take the stance of "My name's Paul, and this is between ya'll...", unless it's something where I feel more strongly about making sure that someone gets their comeuppance (like that
werewolf
quest that everyone was talking about) or it seems clear(ish) that one party is actually (or at least potentially) innocent. I did have one random ! quest the other day, I'll put it in tags just in case,
where I came across some guys sitting by a fire just off the path, and they invited me to join them. Two of them started arguing, and one of them accused the other of being a spy, and it was about to come to blows, I just said "Fuck it, I don't know either one of you guys." and they had it out until one of them died. I did totally loot his corpse, though.

I wonder how many of those random encounters will come up later? I came across one guy in a spot of trouble (I'll be vague) and got him out of it with practically zero effort, and he says he'll repay me someday. I wonder if I'll see him again?

The first thing has only ever happened to me when I am not touching the analog stick and am letting him auto-steer himself (e.g. not during races) and even then only infrequently after passing an intersection.

The other two are problems that make me rely on Roach less for <300ft trecks

Perhaps. He certainly doesn't have the attitude of last gen protagonists.

Man, in Kaer Morhen choosing
Triss is the best. Seeing the shade Yennefer gives Geralt about Triss is hysterical.

Going up to Triss's old room and seeing
the new bed is pretty amazing.

Ewwww the Enhanced Griffin armor is horrid. Gone back to the basic Feline armor instead. Got the quests for higher level Feline gear so I'll probably stick with this set and work on its upgrades unless there is even better stuff later on.

I love this game so much that I actually ordered a guide. Once done I'm going to replay it and 100% it. I haven't used/bought a guide in a very long time.

I'm *this* close to ordering the same books. The Witcher 3 is my first experience with the series and I'm hooked. I need to learn more and read more.

Yeah Roach is a piece of shit. Worst horse control in any game I can recall playing in the last couple of years. I prefer running around instead now. Destination set to "1000+"? Give a fuck, I'll bolt it myself.

OH been wanting to ask, anyone knows where to get the recipe for enhanced swallow? I have the superior swallow recipe but need the previous one to do it

Does going to Skellige and lock any secondary quests or witcher contracts? Or I'm I safe to go? I've done the Novigrad quest line.

Wondered why I was doing very little damage to 2 lvl12 enemies when I'm lvl18 and realised after the fight I still had a wooden sword equipped from a previous quest.
