I see Witcher 4 starring a totally new character in a fresh new setting. Wild Hunt is a final to all the novels and games and the characters within these.

The Witcher 1 prequel would be interesting.

Well, The Witcher 1 begin at the point where Geralt doesn't remember anything.

a witcher game without having a witcher lead would work. It's a pretty rich setting.

It'd also free us from the tyranny of quen, or witcher signs in general.

So no one cares about the xp bug mod that fixes the problem? For me the XP problem has put a massive downer on the game for me and I'm excited to crack through a bunch of levels and finish a heap of quests I've got waiting to be handed in.

Can you post a link to the fix?

Can someone link me to / tell me whatever the music is that plays when you're on the island of An Skellig? (the northeast island, and not The Fields Of Ard Skellig music)

How about you link this mod so we can get excited with you?

The issue being that Witchers are known as the best melee fighters all around, with the alternative being you're a mage. And while I love being mages in other fantasy games, there's enough of them in this universe. While not enough witchers. And we as gamers like feeling special, else Bioware plot writers would starve.

I have come to conclusion that this game is really a 7/10 disguised as a 10/10 game.
It has excellent story, characters and some really well done quests and side pieces. The quests involving the Baron were some of the best written and most emotionally satisfying in any medium, let alone gaming.

However, the game IMO makes a lot of little mistakes that for me added up to at times a VERY frustrating experience. My main issue if you have read my previous posts stems from the combat system. It seems like they tried to get a hybrid of Arkham series and Assassins Creed and didn't succeed at either.
However my main issue is exactly what is printed here:

In both general world traversal and combat, you’re forever at the mercy of whatever motion Geralt is playing out before he’ll respond to your next input – with them not being ‘queued up’ either. Get the timing wrong on bringing up your inventory if you’re still ‘recovering’ from a roll and it simply won’t trigger – nor will things like dismounting the horse if you’re too quick to hop across the buttons instead of waiting for the game to be ‘ready’.
Your crossbow too is given to Geralt as a quick-fire way of felling airborne beasts and keeping others at bay – but in practice with all the other elements in play it’s very rare that you’ll get a shot off when it’s needed most. This isn’t to mention that the very run you’ll do into a pack of enemies takes priority over pulling out a blade, so chances are the start of many encounters will be you getting hit first.
In terms of getting around the world you do now have a jump button – a first for the series – but if you were expecting to simply run around and tap X/A to pick up the spoils of war from the ground like before, Wild Hunt insists you stop, look close to the spot where the item itself is, and then tap pick it up.
It’s these minor things that stick out far more than anything more immediately game-breaking, as when your previous title didn’t have such issues it’s going to be the first thing fans notice, and the reason newcomers get instantly put off

That sums things up nicely and is the start of things, but here are other issues I have with the game are minor but add up in annoying ways. These are not in order of annoyance, but I just took notes as I came across them so I could type them here.

1. Map icons not being present. In a normal open world game if I need to see a specific NPC there is a map icon that will let me know at all times where that NPC is located. In Witcher 3 those icons would appear and disappear seemingly at random. I need to go and see a Blacksmith, why is there no Blacksmith icon showing up. For the most part I now know where specific vendors are when I need something, but why not just make them ALWAYS appear? It makes no sense and can be very annoying when you're in a new area or in a city that is difficult to get around if you are looking for a specific vendor.

2. Weapons unselecting between combat sessions. I almost always keep my crossbow as my go to item, but quite a few times I would have to inexplicably reselect it.

3. Long load times between dying. No explanation needed.

4. Fall damage. Why does falling 10 feat take away three quarters or my health? That's ridiculous. While most games allow you to fall from ridiculous heights with little to no health penalty, but in this game its frustrating at parts where you have to drop down several ledges and given its very easy for geralt to walk too far you can end up taking fall damage from falling the shortest of differences. This is a game. Dont make it be realistic.

5. Inventory management can be a nightmare and really bogs down later in the game. There should have been a way to sort items better than the default. Sometimes I'd like to know what items are heaviest and I should have also been able to equip items easier. Very poorly designed. Simple things like trying to sell enemies or equip new potions were a biiger pain in the ass than expected.

6. LET ME RUN PAST THE FUCKING ENEMIES WITHOUT FORCING ME INTO COMBAT MODE. Most of the time I could manage, but in combat mode you slow down and Geralt has annoying tendency to turn around and when you just want to ignore wolfs it can be annoying.

7. The interact prompt seems to not work at times. This could affect some quests even.

8. Finding the enhanced or superior versions of recipes should automatically unlock the regular version. Or the recipes should be available at all vendors once you reach a certain point in the game.

9. Once you unlock a fast travel station, just let us use fast travel whenever.

10. Minor complaint in Gwent, the cards will some times block out the cards you want to see.

If anyone has solutions for the complaints that I may have missed. I am all ears.

Stuff other people complained about, but I am not really noticing.
Bad framerates - been pretty smooth for me.
XP glitch - I can see this making my blood boil.

Kaer Morhen spoilers (Act 2?)

Holy shit! Just finished the Battle of kaer Morhen scene and dear god that was some of the best gaming I've ever personally experienced! Well done CDPR!

Still loving the game bugs and bad mechanics aside. Recently won the High Stakes Gwent Tourney and god damn, those guys have some mean decks.

OKAY, I GIVE YOU THE PERMISSION TO PRESS AND HOLD THE RUN BUTTON AGAIN SO YOU CAN RUN AWAY FROM ALL OF THOSE SCARY MONSTERS and super creeps

I must say after putting quite a large number of hours into this game, I am baffled at what people hate about the combat. Is it just from newcomers that came from Bloodborne?

I think the combat is absolutely fine. (Bloodmarch) You can't just go in there and hack and slash, especially when theres multiple enemies. Combining the dodging, rolling, use of appropriate Signs for the situation. Works fine to me

What gives? lol

You can actually run in combat. Just hold A (or X on PS4) to run pass through them.
I do agree with some of your complaints, such as map icons and inventory management.

It feels odd. Games like Batman and Shadow of Mordor have much more of a vacuum effect when you let out an attack. Rarely if ever did I outright miss an enemy which happens a heck of a lot in this game.

In the novels Triss does not and will not wear anything revealing her chest. It's a character-defining trait, which CD Projekt Red erased and stuck with since the first game due to reasons.

Ok, but this isn't the novels. I was commenting on the dress she wears in this game, which is not outrageous or unflattering at all, and does not constitute a "plunging neckline" (which I'd be hesitant to call a character-defining trait).

If you were referring to the one in W1 that you posted, then I agree with you it's silly. The one in W3 is fine.

Well this is some bullshit. Got stuck with a bug where I can't use any signs, apparently the solution is to use a dimeterium bomb on yourself and let it expire but I have none, don't have the ingredients to craft one, and am at a point where I'm up against a boss and have no way of going back.

I'm having such a goddamn good time with this game. Yeah, the combat isn't the best but its serviceable. The inventory management kind of sucks but it could be worse (see:Dragon Age Inquisition and their list inventories).

But just the dynamic feel of the world and how damn beautiful and lively it is combined with the great sidequests that just organically spring to life are terrific! I just worked my way through Kiera Metz's quests and that was just a bunch of sidequests!

So the game has its share of flaws surely, but what it does right just far outweighs what it does wrong.

I should have rephrased I would like to run past the enemies without combat mode being and thus making Geralt magnetically trying to turn around. Wolfs and dogs are the only time it's annoying since they are some of the few enemies that will chase you quickly.

The dress is outrageous because it's on a character whose clothes are always buttoned up to her neck, which absolutely is a character-defining trait, it's a constant reminder of her trauma and insecurities; and the "plunging neckline" is just awkward translation. The original text simply mentions a cleavage or low-cut neckline.
These games are unofficial continuations of the novels, constantly referencing their events (including a terrible joke about the time Triss was mutilated at Sodden). If the novels don't matter, then they should have just gone ahead and made Geralt an anthropomorphic bunny from outer space. Geralt also sounds like a nerd's name, so they should have called him... I dunno, Jazz?

For me the issue is the camera and Geralt the semi lock on nature can make fighting packs of enemies tough. Yes most of the time those scenarios can be avoided, but it really becomes a frustrating experience when you are forced into tight spaces. I find the counter button to be unresponsive.

For an RPG it is just very very basic. A few strikes and a couple of spells and bombs.

It's fine for what it is, just very basic and redundant

I can hardly imagine beating this game on any difficulty at this point, haha... I am so content to just casually trot around on my horse doing NOTHING, sometimes it even feels that quests are in the way. Like fuck off with your contracts plz, I'm just here to watch your peasants do their laundry.

I am 70 hours with 25% completion. Trying to do everything. Got the EXP bug, so slowed down progress. But if the patch is going to be next week, I might just go ahead and play through, as side quests still give me EXP.

Haha, yup. Last night I was just exploring randomly to cover areas where I haven't been yet, and I kept running into unknown quests and even completing some of them lol.

Novigrad is just amazing, as are all the smaller cities near it. It feels so huge and authentic. Looks like it smells terrible, all the peasants are gross, there are tons of refugees trying to line up and get in.... It's so amazing. I made a thread a while ago about how Morrowind was the most historically plausible RPG, but Witcher 3 might take the cake now in terms of authenticity and detail in setting.

I just mind control puppets and let them beat the shit out of each other they hit harder anyway. Then I'll mind control the last guy and cut him up and he can't fight back. Easy mode really.

Speaking of which, my GoG Galaxy shows I have 0 achievements. I for sure beat the game, did several contracts without bombs or signs, and a whole host of other things. Is this an issue for anyone else?

That's a childish counterargument, c'mon man.

The novels matter in that they are what the games drew from in terms of story, setting, and characters, themes, and tone. But since this game isn't canonical, and it's CDPR's game and not Sapkowski's, they can tweak their vision of the world as it suits the gameplay and their own internal interpretation of the novels.

If Triss' dress and characterization in the Witcher 3 dosen't suite you because it's contradictive to her depiction in the books, that's fine and an appropriate reaction, nothing to talk about there. All I was saying is that the dress itself in the 3rd game is not something that's raunchy or is "proudly presenting her sizable assets". It fits the Triss as I know her from playing W2 and W3 and does not ruin her character, having not read the series.

Cool so I started the quest
Ugly Baby in Skellige
and then some of my secondary quests starting failing.

Thankfully I had a save just before starting this quest. Will come back to it later lol

I love this game, but this goes for all Western styles RPGs....stop giving me so much unnecessary loot/items.

If you wanna go that direction, make my inventory unlimited.

This is why I love the weight system/unlimited inventory in Dark Souls 1 and 2.

Okay, Geralt's drunken antics during the "No Place Like Home" quest are having me rolling. First witcher sense dialogue literally made me lol. This is fucking amazing.

Is it just me or are there far FAR less fast travel markers in skellige compared to velen / novigrad?

Maybe I'm just daft but what's the difference? It looks more shadowy or something...

Someone posted the comparison.

I really hope someone can mod the cutscene lighting to be used in gameplay:
There's something clearly weird going on.

I am now remembering how much I hate racing in this game.

"I bet I'm faster than you Geralt!"

*I have lead for 99% of the race until Roach gets stuck in something*

"HA! WITCHER YOU'RE DISAPPOINTING! THAT WAS EASY!"
