The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

Haha yeah the mods are locking a lot of things down lately, which I kind of like. Probably setting standards for the coming of E3 and the inevitable nose-thumbing and apples-to-oranges comparisons that it will bring.

But Witcher 3 is best anyway so it's not even thread-worthy, there's no discussion.

Actually I can see the value of those types of comparison. If I'm someone who is thinking of buying that new game called The Witcher 3 that I'm hearing is pretty good, I would find useful to know what people opine of the game at the same time I can see their opinions of other games of the genre.
If a person writes X about game 1 (say Skyrim ) and Y about game 2 (say, DA:I) and my opinions are similar, I know I can trust too his opinion about The Witcher.

It's the same when people trust in one reviewer or distrust another one because their past reviews don't align with their tastes.

..puny vampire

yeah, but I guess he wasnt killing witchers. I dont expect every enemy to be on scale with gerald when in comes to physical strength. He was a danger because of his trickery.

He had killed witcher before, but it was centuries ago. He even wondered if he still remembers how to fight a witcher. He didn't, he got rekt.

Perhaps, but yet, the cutscene leading to the fight and the last line so was so good imo that it was hard not to get little hyped.

Geralt: "Mmhm. But I'm pretty good with a sword."
Enemy: " 'Pretty good'... might not cut it"

Witchers don't kill intelligent creatures, so if you go around killing trolls, succubi and dopplers, you're kind of doing it wrong.
Well they do if they're a danger, but it's a judgement call rather than automatic. But still...trolls gotta eat.

does anybody know when i can come across the sidequest that leads you to that vampire who's sleeping and tells you to fuck off in the trailers? that clip is hilarious and I'm anxious to play the quest.

vampires are intelligent

I've not read the books but I've been told that Geralt actually has generally tried to avoid conflict with greater vampires, not least of all cuz he'd be putting his ass on the line in a big way. My understanding is that what Witchers do and do not hunt is formula of intelligence, danger to population, and danger to the Witcher. And pay, obviously.

Actually only Geralt has a policy about killing sentient creatures.

He believes that if they can be reasoned with, he won't need to cut them down. If they are too dangerous and he can't solve the problem, then he will kill them. The other witchers don't really care and just want to get on with their business and get money.

Spoilers for what I guess is very late game main quest:

So I completed Isle of Mists and and went back to Kaer Morhen and had a council about our strategies. Now the game wants me to go out into the forest with Lambert. Should I complete all the side quests and contracts before I join him? Seems like this is a final mission?

You're at 50% of the game.

You're still a long long long way before finishing the game. So take your time.

I still think that who ever decided that fistfighting arenas should be tiny with a lot spots to get stuck on and Geralt should be slow to respond to commands deserves slap to top of his or her head. Some tedious shit to try keep distance, time counters precisely right or get comboraped while looking for trap stones that lock you into place.

Edit: Not even mentioning whole taking damage already while screen is still black and "loading"

Timing counters is really easy, only times I took damage was against that asshole tailor outside Novigrad with his quick punches. Even Olaf and Knight Errant couldn't touch me, hah.

It's a general principle which Geralt just cares more about than others. Dragons are definitely off-limits for any Witcher.

Slight romance subplot spoiler
I wasn't prepared for Yennefer asking me if I still loved her, I almost said yes but I couldn't do Triss that dirty, this games romance plots are more interesting than my irl love life.

Isn't geralt friends with dragons in the books? Which is why he's reluctant to kill them because he knows they are extremely hard to kill and they are intelligent beings who are his friends?

Heavy attacks are somewhat easy yeah, but fast jabs? lol that timing is super tight, at least feels like it with super slow response to commands by Geralt in fistfights. Miss that counter and you are pretty much good as dead as enemy will get at least 2 fast ones in after first.

Fistfighting just doesn't feel responsive and well designed mini-game. I hate being completionist when game has mini-game like this that just isn't up there with rest of the game quality.

No. There is an episode where he involuntarily meets and helps out a Golden Dragon during which Geralt constantly has to explain that Witchers don't do Dragon-hunting to the people around him.

Fistfights are easy when AI goes full retard and does one heavy attack once in a blue moon, plenty time to counter and provoke AI. Shit get terrible when AI plays aggressive with light to heavy combos and constantly in your face.

I haven't encountered a single one-on-one fistfight that wasn't brain dead easy.

Geralt's counter window is huge.

They aren't his "friends", but because they have that potential: they are intelligent beings, not "monsters".

edit: Mmm actually I'm not sure all are intelligent now that I remember, but in any case they aren't considered a hostile race which attacks humans, and they are almost extinct, that's why Geralt don't want to kill them.

Pretty sure Witchers don't kill dragons as they see dragons as higher species that are only ever a threat when its humans/others threatening them first. They're not normally hostile or volatile to others, whereas other monsters (consciously or not) often pose a threat to innocents. Drowners and such are straight forward. Succubi, trolls, etc muddy the waters the bit as they're sentient beings who can reason, and have reason for killing if they do. Some witchers dont give a fuck because a monster is a monster and that's what they're trained to do. Geralt's character is more sympathetic (unless you role play specifically otherwise) and tries not to kill sentient beings unless they're considered a threat.

Geralt is Ginko, if Ginko would be a monster hunter.

(if you have watched Mushishi...)

You can actually stun lock most enemies in boxing matches by mashing heavy =/ It only becomes ineffective when you fight someone who has super fast stamina regeneration like the novigrad champ.

Remember that the "witcher code" is a made up excuse and basically anything Geralt says about what "the witchers" do applies only to his own sense of right and wrong.

It really isn't that huge. If AI is in retardation mode and does only single heavy now and then it's easy for sure, but mix in fast jabs and shit gets serious. Counter window for fast attacks is tiny and when Geralt is slow to react to commands... yeah...

And pretty much everyone in Skellige has very fast stamina regen or insanely huge stamina reserves allowing them to get counter in before their stamina depletes.

130 hours. 130 fucking hours. I can't remember a game that made me care for its characters so much, that made me despise its villains so much, that made me appreciate its ending so, so much.

Game has its flaws, sure. Still a lot of technical quirks and glitches. Its inventory system makes vanilla Skyrim look like a wonder of UI design. But goddammit, it's all been fucking worth it.

It'll be a long time until anyone, anywhere, makes another game like this. I can tell you that.

Question about outcome for Carnal Sins quest:
I never ended up encountering a higher vampire in that quest, as everything I did ended up leading me to believe Nathaniel was the killer until I completed the quest and read the journal entry on Rejk say he was the actual killer? I must have missed something because I never found a clue that would have lead me to discover his true identity.

Gwent based trophies are going to be the death of me.

I can only win the tutorial game. I just run out of cards, always. How am I supposed to pass the round when the opponent constantly one ups me? And if I don't pass the round, they just run me out of cards!

You don't find clues so much as question Nathaniel when you catch him with the hooker, and he's confused/oblivious to the accusation he kills people. He makes it clear he is going to torture the prostitute and let her live with the damage, and that Rejk is the only other person who knew he'd be there. You confront Rejk at a warehouse and he reveals he set up Nathaniel as he was the most obvious fall guy. Turns into a vampire then GETS REKT.
