The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

Question about outcome for Carnal Sins quest:
I never ended up encountering a higher vampire in that quest, as everything I did ended up leading me to believe Nathaniel was the killer until I completed the quest and read the journal entry on Rejk say he was the actual killer? I must have missed something because I never found a clue that would have lead me to discover his true identity.

Questioning Nathaniel instead of straight out killing him leads to Geralt realizing it's a set-up by Hubert. Also note how the last message of the killer was the only one with a location on it (Crippled Kate's), Geralt even comments on it.

Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely be good but I doubt it will rival this setting. I love European folklore as I've also lived these stories in my youth. Aunts and other relatives would warn us to be careful in the woods and near lakes lest monsters roam about. None of it was serious of course but we pretended to be trolls and elves way before reading any fantasy novels. The world is just so immersive even with some of those game play faults and the characters well written for obvious reasons.

Ciri, Yennefer and Geralt are up there with any other RPG characters. Or Sile, Saskia, the kings and all of it basically.

Gwent based trophies are going to be the death of me.

I can only win the tutorial game. I just run out of cards, always. How am I supposed to pass the round when the opponent constantly one ups me? And if I don't pass the round, they just run me out of cards!
The AI is pretty stupid, something I regularly do is waste a few of my worst cards in the 1st round just to get him to waste his cards. The AI will (almost) always let you get the next round if you're down, so use your worst cards to win it and save your best for the final.
Basics are if you can't win the round, don't waste cards. Use cards that you don't think you'll need (weak cards, weather cards that don't work well against the other deck, those dummy cards to return cards to your hand so he wastes more).

What's the deal with adrenaline?

I know you can pick up skills that use it, such as cast using adrenaline points if you're out of stamina, or use up adrenaline points to absorb a blow that would normally kill you, but does it serve any purpose if you don't have any skills such as those?

I'm playing an alchemy specialized build with the ursine armor - which has a bonus to adrenaline point generation, so I feel as though I should try and capitalize on it somehow, but I'm not really sure how.

well, actually there were a couple of clues that would lead you to him

-the killer made a tracheotomy to the dwarf ..so it was a surgeon of some kind..also it was made with a scalpel
-the formaldehyde stench in all the crime scenes
-the fact that he is the teacher of the hospital guy who looks much older than him..and when interrogated about why he looks so young, he just shrugs it off with some BS

tht being said, getting the good or bad ending of that quest just amounts to
talk before shoot and just talk to the torturer guy instad of trying to kill him the momet you see him

King's Gambit spoilers

This quest and everything leading up to it was awesome. The two quests that go along with it (helping the sister and brother) were both great and it culminated in an awesome conclusion. This game continues to impress.

You don't find clues so much as question Nathaniel when you catch him with the hooker, and he's confused/oblivious to the accusation he kills people. He makes it clear he is going to torture the prostitute and let her live with the damage, and that Rejk is the only other person who knew he'd be there. You confront Rejk at a warehouse and he reveals he set up Nathaniel as he was the most obvious fall guy. Turns into a vampire then GETS REKT.

You do get a few clues, namely the fact that he looks too young and the oxymethylene near the bodies, but they don't draw that much attention to either. Pretty cool quest, not just for the whole set-up but for subverting the player's reliance on Witcher Sense.

And it's an optional side quest too!

The big benefit is that each AP gives you 10% weapon damage bonus.

There's also a 1/1 skill that lets each AP add to sign intensity as well.

The moment
Geralt notices the guy looks way too young to have taught the older guy I knew something was fishy. His explanation of "it's just the chemicals" didn't make a lot of sense either. I felt so smart when it turned out he was the bad guy. :lol

Oh wow yeah I ended up just killing Nathaniel since I caught him in the act. Well I guess that's what I get for lashing out emotionally instead of being pragmatic haha.

yeah,I too didn't really get how adrenaline works at all..tried the ursine armor and then quickkly changed back to the feline one....much faster sign casting and much faster movement.

Pretty sure Witchers don't kill dragons as they see dragons as higher species that are only ever a threat when its humans/others threatening them first. They're not normally hostile or volatile to others, whereas other monsters (consciously or not) often pose a threat to innocents. Drowners and such are straight forward. Succubi, trolls, etc muddy the waters the bit as they're sentient beings who can reason, and have reason for killing if they do. Some witchers dont give a fuck because a monster is a monster and that's what they're trained to do. Geralt's character is more sympathetic (unless you role play specifically otherwise) and tries not to kill sentient beings unless they're considered a threat.

I have wondered during the game: what is the deal with werewolves in this universe? They are defiantly feral, act on instinct and are a danger to people around them, but there are also some scenes that show that werewolves at least keep some of their human intelligence in beast form and even can talk and reason with Geralt.

Does the Charles Dance voiced character appear later in game ?

I cannot recall his character in the early scenes, unless I skipped through a cinematic.

I really liked the werewolf story in the first game. Regarding Witcher work, the rule of thumb is :

1) Cursed creatures
-Remove curse if possible
-Destroy/kill if curse can not be lifted
-Use sacrifice only if all other options are exhausted

2) Monsters
-Remove creatures that haunt human areas such as cemeteries (Necrophages)
-Trolls are cool, keep a bottle of vodka always with you just in case.

Yeah, that in particular set off a lot of bullshit detectors

Don't forget skill that at 2/2 gives you 2% chance / adrenaline point, total of 6%, to instantly kill enemy. Fun to go against some heavy hitter enemy and have that trigger on first swing :D

Just arrived in Skellige. Place is huge and beautiful. I love the music.

Spent sooooooo much time in Velen and Novigrad. Skellige feels like meaty DLC now.

Made some good progress today! Finally got to
Triss
and kicked off the Novigrad chain of quests.

On the search for
Dandelion
now, and I really liked the whole going around and finding
his ex "girlfriends," they all seemed to have their own little stories which was a lot of fun. Especially Rosa Var Attre and her twin with the whole fencing lesson stuff.

Weird though that the
fencing lesson
sidequest was level 12 and all I had to fight were 2 level 9 guys. Plus I only got 25 exp for it. Not sure what is up with some of the level recommendations for these quests, but hey, I'm not complaining, they are still really fun

That Rosa var Attre quest is one big tease, fuck you CDPR.

So everytime the game auto-saves on my PS4 I get a notifcation "Your existing save is corrupted and needs to be deleted. A new save is written in its place." Then an error code CE-33108-5

Anyone ran into this and got a fix? D:

Remember that the "witcher code" is a made up excuse and basically anything Geralt says about what "the witchers" do applies only to his own sense of right and wrong.

Geralt pretends there is such a thing as an official Witcher code because it suits his personality well, but things such as political neutrality and avoiding the killing of intelligent creatures are not made up concepts. It's mostly grounded in practicality, and other characters besides Geralt are aware of that stuff too.

Thanks for the info, but I was more wondering what determines the level of humanity a werewolf retains in beast form. Some werewolves in the game behave pretty much exactly like a mindless monster, while others retain advanced intelligence, human emotions and the ability to reason and think in beast form. Is this because of a different type of curse, or is it determined by the strength of mind of the person that is cursed. Could you technically train a werewolf curse victim to retain almost all of his humanity and control in beast form?

1. Do quests have time limits ? I just accepted one from Hattori in Novigrad. I need to meet him at a certain place at midnight. The problem is the quest is way too high level for me. Can I safely not go to that place or will the quest be failed if I don't ?

2. Where can I find information on the DLC ? The game told me via a prompt that it's in the tutorial section of the menu, but I didn't find any. I just don't know where to find the equipment the DLC offered.

I'm quoting myself for answers. Google isn't giving me anything.

It all depends on the totality of circumstances and the nature of the curse I suppose. It makes sense that a guard would retain some aspects of his humanity if he only wants to fight for "justice" while embracing lycanthropy. At times it feels like all these curses follow strict patterns, as if lifting them is almost a science, but it is what it is. From furry avengers to cursed rapists and beasts wondering in the wilderness.

if they are hungrymthey act like mindless monsters and attack whoever they find.
when said hunger is satiated, they can be reasoned with.
you can also talk to them by incapacitating them, usually, since then they can't act accordingly to their instincts

This is a pretty good take.

I've quite literally just done the same thing. 46 hours in and I've just finished almost all of Velen & Novigrad, leaving out only seemingly minor quests and locations of interest that I'll come back to after I finish the story. For now, I can focus 100% on Skellige and Witcher Contracts. I'm still on the beach, but boy oh boy is the music and setting gorgeous. Can't wait to indulge myself in it tomorrow morning.

The quest you mention doesn't have a limit. Some bigger sidequests can expire when you reach certain points in the story, but they're few and far between.

When I first booted the game after installing the newest patch, I got a message saying that information on the DLC could be found in the tutorial menu. It's not there. Google game me a thread on the Steam forums in which people were also confused.

On the first one, I went there by accident and ran away. Many many hours later I ended up in his shop again and spoke to him.

He had a go at me for embarrassing him, but you can say you'll be there tonight instead, so I assume you can just leave it until you want to do it?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's a strange message. I didn't find anything either. The equipment you get form the DLC is really hard to find though if you don't know where to look from forums or something.

This NPC bugged for everyone else? He's actually a vendor but most of the time you can't access him (he also has a unique dialogue line and plays Gwent) unless you have
a quest item, a letter from his dead sister from a random spot in Skellige that was attacked by a cyclops. He stops being interactable if you turn in the quest though
.

I can only approach him certain times of day when he's smithing.

Just finished the game and was lucky to get the ending i wanted. Have just read up on possible endings.
Had Ciri becomes a witcher, Geralt ends up with triss
Awesome game but i felt so over powered it was silly how easy it was. I was one step down from top difficulty .

My upgrade path was strong attacks and a few other combat ones at max. Only sign i put points in was 3 in quen and 3 in axxi.

What is the highest level or hardest witcher contract? think im currently 34-35

I found out something big today, wish I had realized it sooner. As I've been playing the game I have noticed that my controller rumbles from time to time seemingly randomly. Today I found out that it rumbles as you pass something interesting that requires your witcher senses to see. So every time now that I feel my controller rumble I use my witcher senses and investigate, doing this I've now stumbled upon 3 sidequests.

I am 120 hours in(Final Act) and the thing I have really noticed about this game is that I really like solving all the problems that get in the way of Geralt's problems, and I'm not all the invested in the missions that actually involve Geralt's actual problems. Basically if a mission of quest line involves Ciri or the Wild Hunt, I have been luke warm at best on it. If it involves some random citizen, Bloody Baron, lady of the forest, tree spirit, Triss, Dijkstra, Vernon/Ves, or the countless other obstacles in Geralt's way I really like it.
