Ran into the Fake Papers "bug" I guess-
Brother dies
, I buy the pass, quest fails and I'm 100 coin lighter and still no pass.

What a crock of shit. Reloaded before even talking to the dude. Will wait for patch on that one to complete.

so I went to just about every herbalist in this game, even the master alchemist.... and no damn Blizzard potion... what. the. fuck.
Don't know if this is accurate, so sorry if it's incorrect. Go to Lindenvale, if you head east you'll eventually reach an abandoned site. After you clear it there should be an herbalist who sells this recipe.

thanks! cleared the bandit camp but not that abandoned site yet

Just got to skellige after 48 hours of gameplay.

You guys weren't kidding. It's gorgeous.

This game, it's incredible. Definitely one of the GOAT.

Can't wait till 2 years or so once I upgrade my 970 to a 1270 or whatever and replay this.

I was in witcher vision.
Sometimes the glow doesn't take. Turn it off and turn it on again. That being said, it means it's nearby anyway so just start looking around instead of worrying what the quest marker says. All it does if you examine it is trip your minimap indicator to give you a general area to search. It doesn't control the spawn of the item or anything. There have been a few times I just stumbled on the witcher gear upgrade crafting formulas without purposely hunting them down.

I legit feel awful. This is all my fault

You and me both man, just did this quest yesterday and got the same result and guilty feeling. I think I am done with being a nice guy that tries to help everyone. If I have even a little doubt about your true intentions, from now on out you are getting cut down. No more risks.

I made the same choice and I honestly dont think we got a bad ending to the Barons quest.

May contain Bloody Baron quest spoilers:

I felt bad at first too, I really liked Baron but saving innocent orphans > saving Baron’s broken family. Baron and his wife did that to themselves. It was their bad life decisions which lead them to this point. We actually helped put them out of their misery.

If I am to choose between orphans who absolutely do not deserve to be fed to the crones over saving an over aged couple with ancient problems they weren’t mature enough to solve themselves.. I will choose the orphans all over again.

I am not saying Baron and Anna deserved this end, but atleast they are at peace now. Whereas the orphans got a chance to make something of their lives. I read somewhere that the Tree/monster/cronesmom keeps her promise and enrolled them to a school.

I'm not even finished Act 1 yet but I've gotta say that the writing in this game is truly top-notch. Characters have consistent motivations and personalities, even when they're far from important characters. And the way storylines come around - even games in the making - is absolutely incredible.

The Witcher 3 is so good.

I'm up to the werewolf near the big tree for the Ladies of the Wood quest line.

The werewolf seems way overpowered? It keeps regenerating its health fully before I'm able to kill it. I've tried using quen and Axii and straight up slashing the werewolf with fast attacks and strong attacks but nothing is working right now. Also used Thunderbolt and enhanced my armour and weapons too. Using the silver sword right now.

Do I need to craft a special weapon or put cursed oil on my sword?I don't know how to get these. I'm level 6 at the moment and the werewolf is level 8.

I'm not sure if you miss anything by not killing it, but you can just run straight past it and enter the tree to continue with the quest.

After I completed the quest the Werewolf was dead in the cut scene.

What's the legitimate way to get to the place of power above/behind the house in which you do the Possession quest? Before you complete the quest, you can enter a room in the house and see the path you're supposed to jump to but it's blocked by junk you can't just Aard out of the way and (at least if you go the "trust Cerys" route) the door to that room is locked after the quest ends. I ran around the whole island and found no other path up there, I ended up having to find a glitched ledge I could parkour over the house with and that can't be right...

I literally just did this a few hours ago but you can jump on the ridges near the front entrance of the house off to the left to get up there. Keep trying Geralt will climb the ledges.

Moon Dust Bomb is obligatory for werewolves. That, or out-leveling them a fair amount.

Yeah, that's what I did. One of the ledges is climbable even though it doesn't look like it should be. But the proper path is clearly through the hole in the house, I just couldn't figure out how to use it... Maybe it only opens up if you do the quest a certain way, but locking a place of power behind a situation like that sounds odd.

My favorite merchant right there. I love his goofy mug when he says it!

Kinda worried about inconsistencies in the XP/Bestiary and so on...

Just finished the underground quest in the first act. Is it ok that miniboss-like big enemies like Golems or Gargoyles don't seem to give me any XP (interface doesn't mention it at least)? Is this because AI sidekick gets the last hit sometimes? Also, neither unlocked any bestiary entry.

I'm on 1.04, so I shouldn't risk any trouble with the game not assigning me XP correctly, right?

There's a mountain path that starts further down. It isn't really tied to the quest, you can get it whenever.

I'm actually somewhat disappointed in wyverns in this, they just seem too common and not intimidating.

Hardest non-main quests, people?

For me they were:

Jenny of the Woods
Little Red Hood.
The Phantom of Eldberg.

I also got owned the first time I found gargoyles outside a closed space.

But what about
the people in Downwarren? They are also dead because of us, and they did nothing wrong. Alright, they worshipped the crones, but still, nobody else was looking after them, so they had little choice. I also feel bad for the Baron's daughter, even tho she joined those religious nutcases.

I feel bad now. I decided to
turn the dwarf in with the Warehouse quest and the racist kept being a racist. I only did it because of the evidence...

You make a good point, but weren't they the ones who were supplying/sacrificing orphans to the Crones for selfish purposes?

Two levels isn't much, you've got the right tactics.
If you're shielded go heavy, you can out DPS his regen. Try backing him into the rocks so you can just cut into him.

First step: read the bestiary entry on werewolves; it will list all of their weaknesses. If you don't have anything its weak to on hand, such as the Moon Dust bomb, then you'll need to improvise or level up/get better equipment and try again later. My tip: if you can keep up the offense you'll be able to win with the starting silver sword; I know because I did this. (NinjaEdit: This was on Blood & Broken Bones, I should add.).

Personally, I couldn't stop its regeneration so I used Thunderbolt and Tawny Owl to maximise my offensive potential, and wore it down that way. Took more than a few tries but it got the job done.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies.

Wandered around Novigrad for two hours last night trying to loot stuff, save money and buy weapons but it didn't amount to much.

I don't really know where to get a shield, or tawny oil (Keira's?), or moon dust bomb, so this battle is pretty tricky.

If I can't kill it in the next couple of hours I'll just skip it like you say.

That's more intimidating than the Witcher 1 version!

People shouldn't expect dragon-level combat of them. They aren't dragons.

I actually prefer the design in the first game, these ones from the neck down look too much like featherless chickens to me.

But what about
the people in Downwarren? They are also dead because of us, and they did nothing wrong. Alright, they worshipped the crones, but still, nobody else was looking after them, so they had little choice. I also feel bad for the Baron's daughter, even tho she joined those religious nutcases.

I actually was expecting a huge showdown with the crones so I freed the thing in the tree thinking it would kind of help me in the fight.

One thing I really hate is how the game forces story progression as soon as you reach the vicinity of the character. I just want to talk to Djikstra and get his Gwent card, and now I can't. Soon something huge is about to happen and I'm not even sure I could any longer.

At least
baron
left his card on the table after he's dead. What about Djikstra? Anyone knows?

Is it just me who finds Skellige area, MASSIVELY more appealing (art/design) than Velen?

Its just unbelievably beautiful. And that ambient exploration theme with Celtic lyrics... omg... I was just standing there on top of hill for a good 10 minutes just listening and looking at the view...

It happened the same thing to me yesterday: I was following the gwent quest and I need to beat the
druid
, as soon as I reached him a story mission started.

So damn annoying when it happens. Even if I'm allowed to move around Djikstra afterward the story cutscene ended, when I talk to him, he only asks 'White wolf'? Oh my fucking god, why can't I talk to him and ask if he wants to play Gwent?

What the fuck? Jesus Christ.

Well, it is not that simple.

You are not simply choosing between the orphans and the baron's family.

The baron's family is sad, true. But the actual worst part is that you basically condemned the whole village of Downwarren. They do serve the Crones sure, but what else they can do? They have to fend for themselves so they have to submit to whoever ruling the area. By helping like 5 orphans, the whole village is destroyed, all the villagers got crazy and killed each other along with all the kids there.

I am not saying you make the wrong choice, sure you can feel more attached to the orphans because you have more interactions with them but that doesn't make the truth any less worse.

I love the orphans, but letting them die and save the whole village with their inhabitants in my opinion is the lesser of 2 evils.

Yeah, best looking area in the game easily. Bit annoying it's a ballache to navigate and get stuff done in because of the verticality of it all. Just makes exploration all that more enjoyable though I guess instead of just running on an even level like in Velen/Novigrad.

I can see the appeal but I can't pick a favourite, and if I did Skellige, as much as I love it, wouldn't beat out Velen. I think the tonal difference is very important. For every strength and aesthetic/audio identity Skellige pushes Velen does something different Skellige can't match. Skellige has that beautiful untouched nature and proper sense of loneliness, but Velen's depressing, war torn, utterly depressing and hostile emptiness really stuck with me.

My view on the whole situation:
The people of Downwarren and other villages send their kids on the "trail of treats" when they don't have enough food to feed everyone. So it is kinda out of necessity. Also, I found a book saying that the crones take good care of the kids they receive (a lie obviously), so the parents probably think that they are doing a good thing. Plus, there were also kids in Downwarren that died, the elderman even talks about a mother squishing her baby's head on a tree trunk, and they are for certain innocent
.

I actually was expecting a huge showdown with the crones so I freed the thing in the tree thinking it would kind of help me in the fight.

Me too, but they have a weakness section in their bestiary entry, so I still except to fight them at some point later in the game.

I read somewhere on the board or book in the game that in order to meet the crones you must sacrifice a child. Those people at Downwarren weren’t definitely sacrificing their own as all the kids with Anna were orphans who had gone through hell after their parents died in the war.

The way the eldorman cuts his ear and gives it away without hesitation, goes on to show the people of Downwarren were crazy and didn’t mind sacrificing orphans for their own protection.

I don't really know where to get a shield

A shield? You mean like a real, physical shield? Lol, you can't get one, I don't know where you've even heard such a thing. A witcher would never use a shield. Even all of ya'all who run around with maces and heavy armor are pushing the witcher.
