Early on in the game but two things strike me as worthy of praise above all:

- The nature in this game is so beautiful and realistic it puts any other game before it to shame. The forests, the meadows - and the weather and time of day based lighting are just gorgeous to look at.

- The writing is really ploughing good. Every conversation feels at its place and the variety in characters is astonishing.

It's too early to say for certain but so far this game has GOTY written all over it with big letters.

Consider the fact that the Skellige intro quest is at level 16, which is nothing in this game. There's a broken counter when you access inventory and view character stats (R2 or something).

Yepp; start menu --> character --> R2. And it's indeed broken across all three platforms.

Yes, Skellige has act one in it.

Sure it's "broken" and not just for tracking in-game time? Cause 10 days sounds about right for in-game time, but I sure as hell haven't played for 10 full days :)

How are you guys seeing playtime? Can't find any info on it ingame. Or are those estimates?

Yeah, I wonder if there's a way to check this on PS4.

I've completed Act 2 and the stuff that happens in it are probably some of the best presented scenes in games, ever. (Act 2 spoilers)
I loved the framing of the scene when Geralt first sees Ciri, it's not something I see in games often. Also, the camera work for the action cutscenes in the Battle of Kaer Morhen was fantastic and I enjoyed watching the fight choreography with all the swordplay interspersed with the casting of magic/signs.

I read somewhere on the board or book in the game that in order to meet the crones you must sacrifice a child. Those people at Downwarren weren’t definitely sacrificing their own as all the kids with Anna were orphans who had gone through hell after their parents died in the war.

The way the eldorman cuts his ear and gives it away without hesitation, goes on to show the people of Downwarren were crazy and didn’t mind sacrificing orphans for their own protection.

Yeah I get what you mean. But I don't think that the villagers are crazy, they are just desperate. They do what they have to do to protect themselves, which is what everyone will do.

But yeah, in my playthrough I saved the kids too. But I still feel bad.

I dont know
whether to help the tree or not, what is the best outcome here?

I was in the same predicament, I really didn't feel that I had enough information to make a reasoned decision, I think it was more damned if you do, damned if you don't :-/

Honestly it wasn't that complicated for me: you get to choose between having 3 or 4 free roaming monsters in those swamps. From a witcher's perspective, better to end up hunting a single group

Lol no, counters don't work like that. I've tested the counter too. It doesn't track the amount of "real" time it's been since you started the game, if that's what you're thinking.

And for a lot of people, myself included, the counter shows more time than the game has even been out.

Is it just me who finds Skellige area, MASSIVELY more appealing (art/design) than Velen?

Its just unbelievably beautiful. And that ambient exploration theme with Celtic lyrics... omg... I was just standing there on top of hill for a good 10 minutes just listening and looking at the view...

Skellige is very beautiful. It has a nice "beautiful untamed wilderness" theme going for it.

But saying that is more appealing than Velen is a bit eyerolling.
Why? Because Velen IS supposed to be unappealing! IT IS a shithole. A swamp, a bog, a very poor rural area, a land ravaged by war, all that together at the same time.

It's deliciously unappealing.

OK so I've been playing more on PS4 now. I played up to reaching Skellige on PC and then my PS4 copy arrived. I am nowhere near Skellige yet, but something happened that I did not expect.

The following paragraphs include spoilers regarding
Keira's
subplot.

On PC, I completed the Fyke island quest line in a way where the girl in the tower turned into a pesta and then killed the boy in that fishing village. And then remained roaming free, whereever that may be. Then Geralt did the beast with two backs with Keira. Geralt confronted Keira coming out of the mage's tower with the plague documents. After a brief exchange, she was convinced to hand the documents over to me and leave for the witcher stronghold.

Now, I was playing the same bit on PS4. I resolved the pesta quest in a different manner - taking the fishing village boy back to the island, where he kissed the horrible wraith and then died, absolving the pesta. Fast forward to confronting Keira at the tower. Whatever options I picked this time, it ended with Geralt drawing his sword and cutting Keira down (in a very short boss fight). My jaw dropped. Keira was dead. Geralt then destroyed the documents in a flash of igni.

I felt heartbroken. So I loaded an earlier save and convinced Keira to leave for the witcher stronghold and kept her alive. But on PS4, I now have the automatic trophy screenshot with Keira's body clearly visible in a swamp puddle. I had no idea things could go that way.

This game continues to amaze me.

I felt bad for the Baron, it really shocked me for a few minutes, I was expecting a hefty reward when I went into the Crows perch. It was really depressing at first and I couldn't continue playing the game for a few hours.

But a few days later I realized, my decision was the right one. Baron made blunders all his life and he paid for it.

Didn't care one bit for the villagers. They made a wrong choice to support the Crones and fed her the kids... and they paid for it.

Kids didnt make any mistakes/selfish decisions, they are just some war orphans who deserve a second chance in life. That's how I see the whole thing.

I meant in-game time, as in how many days have gone in my game, since Geralt got to Velen. As in, if I play the game for 4 hours, maybe 1 day passes in Geralt's world, and add to that the time that passes when you meditate/fast travel, I could see my counter being correct for in-game time.

Not sure if I'm explaining myself properly here. Anyway, should be an easy test when I get home, check the timer in the character sheet, meditate for 1 day, and see if the timer adds 1 day, if so, it should be tracking in-game time, and not broken.

Or maybe that's what you mentioned you've already tried?

Why would the counter even show that information? It's not relevant or interesting in any way. No, I'm afraid that's not how it works.

Hey bros, just a few assorted questions if you don't mind:

1. Is there any way of knowing which enemies/weapons you can and cannot block? Seems trial and error atm, found you seemingly can't block axes for example.

2. Ditto but with parrying?

3. Is there a good place to start out in Gwent (I've been buying up cards but not playing)? Want to play some easier players if possible at first.

4. Can someone explain what adrenaline allows you to do cus I dun tottaly geddit atm?

Hardest non-main quests, people?

For me they were:

Jenny of the Woods
Little Red Hood.
The Phantom of Eldberg.

I also got owned the first time I found gargoyles outside a closed space.
Yeh, Jenny wrecked me for so long. Had to use lots of potions and sheer patience to get a hit in and back away.

Same with my first Gargoyle encounter. He was only a few levels above me. Walked up to him. He leaps in the air. Wtf I was thinking. Then he just lands right on top of me killing me. I think this attack is kinda OP tbh. The AOE is too large imo.

Dammit! Nearly three hours in and I somehow selected the 'simulate save option'. Can someone please tell me what the simulated events are? Questions are below:

1. Did you kill Arjan LaValette?

2.Did you go with Roche or Iorveth?

3. Did you save Triss Merrigold or help Roche?

4. Did you warn Sile de Tansarville?

5. Did you spare or slay the Witcher Letho?

In my Witcher 2 (and previous run through) save, I went for 1. Yes, 2. Roche, 3. Roche, 4. No, 5. Spare

Is the simulated the same?

I've barely blocked or parried anyone since the tutorial. Dodging is much more consistent and easier.

Random merchants around Velen are the easiest opponents.

Adrenaline makes you stronger and can later also be used for special attacks which you unlock in the talent tree.

Does anyone know? I'd really like to know if I can still do the
Letho
side-quest and recruit him, otherwise I'm looking at a restart...

You can just choose what you picked in Witcher 2 and it will work out.
If you didn't kill Letho and tell the Nilfgaardians that, you will eventually meet him.

If you chose "Yes" to simulate save, then you will be asked those questions in game once you get done with White Orchard.

If you chose "No", then you're given defaults. I'm not sure what they are but I'm guessing they keep everyone alive.

Sorry, I meant to say I didn't choose the simulate save option. So I have no idea what the game has decided for me. Was just wondering if anyone else did the same.

I'm with him, appealing is a poor choice of words though, perhaps interesting is more apt. Although maybe I just got sick of Velen after spending so much more time there.

Oh if you didn't select "simulate" I'm pretty sure
he's dead
. Sorry bud :-(

If you love him that much might be worth redoing those 3 hours, not a long time in the scope of the whole game.

Dammit! I missed the
Full Crew achievement last time, by killing Keira. Not going to miss it this time round if I can't help Letho.

Thanks, looks like it's a restart for me. :(

Question concerning Hjalmar quest, spoiler tagged just in case:

Where did Hjalmar go after I did his sidequest in Undvik? Didn't get a chance to talk to him.

so..now I'm curious about the possible outcomes of one of the triss missions in novigrad

i ended up trying to use a sign to avoid triss getting tortured, they realized that and we ended up bruning the place to the ground.
not that i mind, witch hunters are assholes and some of their had the balls to tell they were coming for me sooner or later,so..yeah,i came for them first...but i am curious..is there a way for the whole plan to go accordingly to plan, without triss getting tortured AND without burning the whole place to ashes?

i didn't intervene
because she told me not to! - she just gets her fingernails pulled out and then frees herself, telling me she knew what she had signed up for. She killed the witch hunter bossguy, though and we still burned down the place afterwards.

edit: sorrydoublepost

I played around with that mission for 1 or two hours and there is no way to save her the torturing witthout killing everyone there. and even if she is tortured, the witch hunter boss still dies at her hand. but you can leave the compound unseen after that if you want.n you will also have a different follow up quest depending on your choice.

I think i played about 100 hours (can't be sure since the counter it's broken) and i just arrived Novigrad triying to find Dandelion. I'm even playing on death march since the start, but this game throws so many interesting things at me at every corner it's baffling.
I felt really impressed in the change of landscape when you aproach Novigrad, what a great game. Hunting desings for armor it's really cool too, just completed the Griffing armor, it's so badass :D

there is no best outcome..pick your poison

you can either *SPOILER*

-free the tree, save the children but doom a village, free a vengeful and murderous spirit on the world and kill both the baron's wife and the baron himself

-kill the tree, the children are dead and the crones are still around, but you save the baron's wife (who got mental in the meanwhile) and the baron himself

It is kinda trial and error but there is some consistency

Geralt can generally block and parry some moves of the enemies of his size. With drowners, rotfiends, endrega, wraiths, you can parry all regular standing attacks, but any jumping attacks, teleports, tail swipes, etc. you have to dodge out of the way.

Nekkers, wolves, smaller flying enemies like harpies, you can parry everything they throw at you.
