Yeah outside of introducing you to Witchers, Triss, Dandelion and Zoltan, the story there is self contained and mostly fan-fictiony anyway. Just watch the CG outro that introduces the plot of the second game.

The first game has a great story, especially toward the latter part of the game. It's really worth playing.

Someone need to explain this to me.

I have plenty of lesser mutagens(like 22 blue ones for example), yet for some reason the game doesn't want me to create more regular ones because "I already have this item"? What? How am I suppose to create the greater ones if I can't have more than one regular metagen at a time? It's just confusing.

Man, Yen is kind of insufferable. She reminds me of Triss in TW1 in a way. So prickly, so mean-spirited to completely innocent people and little regard for morals or ethics. And her pompous attitude is just so grating.

I'll be glad when I get to shut her down.

It's a bug in the current patch. Just drop your regular mutagens

It's a bug introduced by 1.05. They'll probably have it fixed with 1.06.

I haven't found a workaround, unfortunately.

This may be a perfect example of how not paying attention will screw you over.
Not paying attention to what? I've played Witcher games, both of them multiple times over, my criticism is how this still persists in the game. It's not very intuitive level design because a level design should take into account such situations...especially for things early on in the game, it should expect people to not have gone around collecting things so as to horde on potions and food.

So what you're saying is that good level design makes sure the player has everything they could ever need available at all places and points of time during all missions? Every cave should stock a full pantry, a full selection of alchemy ingredients, a full set of crafting components, a blacksmith and a brothel while they're at it? If you think about it for a little while, I think you would come to the conclusion that, no, that would be pretty shit design and you're just needlessly complaining because you might have to replay 20 minutes.
You are reducing my argument. I am not saying hand it out on a platter.

This is a very weird criticism. Did you play the game for 60-70 hours without even learning some of the basics of it? How did you manage to have no food and potions ingame. How did you miss the importance of preparation in this game? It's mantra from the beginning (griffin fight).

If you'd read my post again then you can tell that I am still early on in the game, I am sure this improves later but that will be more due to the fact that you've been playing the game longer and as is with every game you just horde stuff over time. My criticism is that the game seems to (atleast as of yet) expects you to go out of your way to spend a lot of time picking stuff. It should either lessen the amount of materials required, or just streamline the types of materials required. Sure preparation is a very important aspect of the Witcher games but there are few issues here:

1) You don't exactly know where to find what all the time, especially when it comes to things like flowers which you can identify when you look at them directly but apart from that there's no way to tell if you'd find say, Fool's Parsley around the area you are in and the only way to find it would be to just wander around aimlessly until you get it. In FC4 for example (which admittedly is very very streamlined compared to this and I don't want it to be that simple) the leaves are marked in colour so you know what's what and where.

2) There are just too many different kind of ingredients and materials to collect, in my opinion an ideal amount should be one where you can recall most of the ingredients by name or symbol. I've played Witcher games so much and till date I've never been able to remember half of the materials/ingredients used in the game. Slightly streamlining this aspect wouldn't be bad and it won't necessarily hurt the preparation aspect of the game in any way (if you think it will then I'd like to know how).

And I stress again that these are not really complaints but just nuisances, it would be better if there is less of a time sink in secondary mechanics. And these are based on my early impressions and it might change later.

No need for that.

Eh, it's not a banned word here (used towards fictional characters especially), I don't really see the issue. Used towards men, used towards women, used towards monsters, etc.

That said, further in justjim's explanation, that's exactly why I find myself magnetized by Yennefer. I much preferred Witcher 1 Triss (in personality) to the somewhat zesty sidekick she turned to in Witcher 2 (while she was still my favorite woman in that game). The sharp-tongued, vaguely detached sorceress was a much more entertaining back-and-forth (notably for someone as cartoonishly stoic as Geralt) than an overly willing and non-confrontational Triss in contrast. Hell, I am no fan of the type in real life, but when Yennefer opened her mouth, there was a much missed energy that returned to romance option dialgoue. Well, to be honest, after 53 hours, I'm only now moving on with the story after not even completing the Baron's quest (my first major arc started), so I don't know how she will develop or continue. But based on first impressions, I don't know how Triss will win me over in this one if she's akin to herself in Witcher 2. Hell, I don't know how she'll top Keira (a more successful exhibit of the "warmer" love interest regarding the W1 Triss/ W2 Triss contrast).

Not a banned word, but it's a pretty powerful one. Not a fan of throwing it around causally.

I have lost all motivation to finish this game when I hit Final Preparations. 60 hours in and all the wind left my sails.

This is because you already have a mutagen(s) of the same type created and the game refuses to create more.(Like the potions and oils.) A workaround that worked for me, drop all of these existing mutagens, then craft a new one, and pick up your dropped ones.
Example: Let's say you wanna craft a blue mutagen. You drop all of the blue mutagens, then craft a new one with the lesser ones, and pick up the dropped blue mutagens. This worked for me. Hope it helps.

Does anyone know the name of the track that plays during combat vs. monsters on the IoM? It's one of my more liked combat themes in the game.

At any point does
the assassination plot
pick back up? I found
Thaler, pissed off Radovid by not having enough evidence to find Phillippa,
and now it seems like a dead end. Am I missing something, or does it pick back up?

You'll get a follow-up from
Triss in Novigrad after the Battle of Kaer Morhen.

Thanks, I figured as much. Currently wrapping stuff up in Skellige, I've outleveled a good number of the quests. That's a really discouraging feature.

That's similar to me, the end of act 2 sort of felt like the end of the game in its own way.

Practically cleared out every sidequest in Velen and Novigrad but I really can't be bothered with any in Skellige now. Will just play through the rest of the story if I can, really don't want this joining my backlog.

Someone halp

1. Best place to sell trophies?
2. There's some kind of
Draconoid
at Lornruk where you get the
Griffin sword crafting instructions
- was I supposed to get anything from it? Because every time I
killed it, the damn thing was either hovering in midair, shaking furiously on the ground, and/or not giving me the option to loot it.

confused about a sidequest I have called the gangs of Novigrad. The step im on is
Think over Cleavers offer to help you find Whoreson Junior
but anytime I talk to him Geralt says he isnt interested in his squabbles

I've fallen asleep twice already and only just got the order to kill the griffin.

Open world games like this toy with my mind because I want to explore...
Started on Death March (after Broken Bones) and it's kicking my ass. Running into a random Drowner can kill me in 1-2 hits.

So I am Geralt, bad ass Witcher, but a weakling.
And my biggest priority in existence is finding Yennifer, but I have no problem helping an old lady out with her pan.

On the road between the pan lady and the Nilfgaard camp it was pretty interesting. The wolves were chasing around the deer and attacking people.

On the way I found two Drowners but I am not sure if there as a glitch. They wouldn't attack me unless I got in their space. There were two folk screaming for help but were not intractable.

just finished a few minutes ago with all side quests and contracts completed..clocked in at 93 hours..man, what a masterpiece. Also happened to get the best ending!

After the rain.

That tree is such a fascinating landmark.

Sight of Novigrad.

Looks amazing in the distance at night. The lights are so nice.

Anyone playing this on PC with the 360 controller for Windows?

Yep, with MS's wireless receiver. Works perfectly.

While that may work, a more stream lined "level design" would break immersion for me. There are so many games where I see health packs or large weapons near a section and I say to myself, "must be a boss fight". Or like in ME, where I see some waist level walls and tell myself "there must be a fight here". I would rather it be randomly distributed like in The Witcher 3.

And for this game, the basic potions are all setup with quests in the tutorial area. A couple of hours in White Orchard and you should have repair kits and the Swallow potion.

Will do, thanks guys.

Perhaps... I wish you weren't right, but you probably are.

I cared about Keira, I care about Yen, Vesemir, Ciri, and especially Geralt himself, I even cared about that Witcher who was unfairly blamed for the kid's disappearance in White Orchard, but I really can't give two shits about the Baron or that woman from the tower side quest (what a shitty level design that quest had, Jesus. It was like moving inside a doll house)

Cared? Oh no... I hope this doesnt mean what I think it does ):
