I read this on reddit a few days ago. You can also press and hold the touchpad and you will go straight into Inventory.

This might be common but I learned recently that L1+Square takes you straight to Meditation menu.

wtf...where does the game tell you all this stuff? lol

WHERE DO I FIND GOOD ARMOR

i've only found diagrams to craft good armor so far. the only good item i think i've found as loot was a sword off a boss.

I wonder if they will eventually release a hardcore difficulty like they did with Witcher 2. Permadeath, no fast travel, etc... would be awesome.

Yes, I realize I could have self imposed restrictions...but it's not the same.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I just despise these giant maps with "location of interest" in games today. I don't even understand them, fundamentally, and i have played enough assassin creed games, open sandbox games and recently mordor and DA:I that i would be good to avoid them for a while but they're everywhere.

You dont need design like this to incorporate strong world building in your games but they're trendy and help with sales so whatevs.

I suppose this is where we disagree, also as someone who loathes the Ubisoft style open world map. More or less every open world game since the dawn of time has populated the map with checklist-style stuff, but I feel Wild Hunt does it well by making the plausible within the setting (bandit camps, monster nests, and treasures) and often wrapping them in a story, if short, of their own. If you're just not a fan of how they're presented the setting then that's fine, but for most part they've put in much more effort to make something as simple as a bandit camp have context. Even captured prisoners; you're not combing the map for prisoners, and the ones you find can be sourced back to a location. They're given context.

And I mean, if the map being populated by these icons is frustrating, then just turn them off. It's not a collect-em-all find-all-the-shards game, so you can very comfortably play with "points of interest" simply existing within the world unmapped or mapped only when you discover it for yourself.

28 hours in and I'm still overwhelmed with the number of quests to do in Velen and Novigrad. Feels like I've barely done much of the main story too.

That's why I'm confused lol some stuff like Axii for dialogue options needs to be in a slot and everything I've put points into needs to be in one to work, yet Aard's alternate was active even though I didn't put it in a slot.

wait... abilities dont have to be in a slot? i thought they had to be in a slot for them to be active

Dark Mode was only released with the enhanced edition, likely they'll do the same here... as its a time when the game will be more polished so you won't die due to glitches.

The fast traveling is so limited, wish I could fast travel from anywhere. Normally I just go by horse but when I just want to buy ingredients for something or crafy id rather just teleport there and do it asap

Him? Roach is a charming horsey lady!

I'd like to see a hardcore mode similar to the one in New Vegas. A hunger meter would really help me deal with my food hoarding habits.

Roach kicks ass while his buddies cheer him on LOL

See and learn new things every time I play.

OMG! That's awesome.

I got home from work and I said to myself "let's get through the rest of the novigrad story missions so I can finally go to skellige"
I opened my map and saw that I had 84 undiscovered points of interest
Thought to myself "no no no this will not do."

4.5 hours later only 24 left unchecked.

I will never finish the game at this rate but it's so fun to explore everything.

There was one point of interest in the south by the pale mountains or whatever that I couldn't figure out how to reach. It's at the south east of the map, more towards the bottom close to those mountains by the shoreline.

Kill humans, particularly Nilfs and Witch Hunters. Cave dive. Loot every chest. You'll also stumble upon plenty of crafting recipes.

Dragon Slayer tomb or what not. Full set of Witcher gear recipes in there.

It's a bug.

Abilities have to slotted. When they're slotted, they have a golden border around the ability. However, there's a bug that makes some abilities have a golden border, despite not being slotted.

Just to reiterate, they have to be slotted.

Ive been putting points toward strong attack... I am cutting people down on horseback. The Calvary aspect of the game is pretty damn satisfying.

Going to have to look into this. I love the melee combat so damn much.

I went fast attack. Find crit % gear and crit damage gear to compliment, and mutagens for added attack power. I sometimes take down bosses surprisingly quickly thanks to a massive fast crits, or send three mobs at once flying into pieces.

That's what I've been putting points into so far. That and the poisoned blades skill.

Haha, I had this happen to me when I did the quest where you get to box with people around Velen. Some how Roach spawned into the area where you fight and the guy was on the other side, and Roach kept knocking him down until his health reached zero for a knock out.

I didn't even need(or get) to throw a single punch.

surprised you didnt get called a cheater like you do when you horse race and accidentally go down the wrong path and still win

For real, if you aren't staggered whirl destroys bosses on Death March.

I've had 4 crashes in Gwent, while about to win a round and it crashes right when the pass circle completes. Frustrating.

Edit: make that 5.

I need help deciding which of the following two spells to spec into: the Axii alternative (convert enemies into allies) or Quen alternative (life-regenerating shield).

I was initially leaning towards Axii since the idea of turning enemies into allies seemed so cool, but after performing some tests, I'm actually more impressed with the Quen one. It seems like an awesome ability to cheese in order to regain health in dangerous areas. For example, you can kill off a pack of enemies until there's just one remaining, then bait it into attacking your shield and giving you back all your life before slaying it as well. It could also be invaluable in dire situations in which your health is really low and you need to pull something out of your sleeve in order to survive. Near death? Evade enemies until your stamina is full, pop the shield, let them whale on it, then roll away!

The Axii alternative, on the other hand, seems way more situational since it takes forever to cast and doesn't last very long.

So what do you guys think, especially those of you who've spent time messing around with both spells? Is the Quen life-regeneration shield the more useful of the two, and is the Axii one as situational as I'm thinking it is?
The axii variant can be quite strong as enemies kill each other much faster than you can, at least on higher difficulties. Notice that it adds damage to their attacks. However, it does indeed take a while to cast and often bugs out for no reason at all (the alternate mind control form when you hold the cast button suddenly doesn't work, and the game never says why.... Either that's a huge bug or I'm missing something).

I find it very useful against cheap cheeseball enemies like drowners or walking bombs like rotfiends. You can also mind control an enemy and strike them down - great for larger foes like bears. It works on the vast majority of enemies, even most witcher contracts.

Death March is turning into Not Fun March. Gargoyles are easily the worst and wraith just become a game of rolling. Fighting humans is fun because you feel more or less on the same level. But monsters with infuriating skills are annoying. :|

Wow, man fuck that gwent match against that dwarf guy in novigrad.

That motherfucker is dirty, and the scoa'tel deck is fucking OP.

My feelings are not wrong considering I hit a notice board afterwards that had a notice about someone losing an entire deck to him. I lol'd.

EDIT: I read the bestiary entry on Harpies.

Jesus christ. NOPE.

ERMYGERD!
This game... Found a note talking about treasure buried near an old mill. I heard over there, get ambushed by a couple of deserters. First one lashes out at me, I counter and chop off his arm in the process. The second one approaches me while an archer is firing at me. I carefully move around so the archer and bandit are lined up, and sure enough, the archer shoots his buddy in the back.i roll up to the archer, and make quick work of him. Casually, I loot every treasure when out of nothing, another deserter appears. I barely manage to parry his attack. He's wielding a hatchet, though. So I get stunned. I dodge his next attack, immediately followed by a heavy attack, he manages to block, but stumbles to the ground. Lying flat on his back I approach him, and drive my sword through his chest.

All because of some throwaway line on a note I found a few towns over...

Is there a way in game to tell how long you've been playing? The game timer in GOG Galaxy seems to be bugged at just over an hour

Didn't expect to be getting Red Dead Redemption vibes from this, but 10 hours in and here I am

Definitely GotY contender. The sidequests feel so natural and flow perfectly with the open world

I failed Gang of Novigrad quest, ;_; was it a good quest? not in mood of going back now, kind of want to finish Novigrad and move to the island now...

btw, what does the rune with +0 attack power actually do???

Oh my god, there is an entire questline that references Tarantino movies.

Hattori Hanzo and dumplings(incredible weaponsmith that smiths no more until Geralt aka Beatrix walked through the door), going to a warehouse like to negotiate a deal like in Reservoir dogs.

wait, you mean Zoltan? I beat him first try. I usually fair well against Scoa'tel.

The hardest guy in novigrad is the guy that Sells aeramus's momentos which starts the quest for Aeramus's place....he is literally the hardest guy in Velen/Noviagrad. you'll see why. THAT GUY is fucking OP.

Tip for fighting wraiths (and spectres in general):

Yrden makes spectres corporeal and allows you to parry/guard their strikes without losing any hp. Use Yrden! It gets harder when fighting multiple enemies but still doable. At least, that's how it works on the difficulty 1 below death march. But since I can fight vs spectres without taking any damage, it should work on death march too.

After the fifth or sixth inopportune crash I decided to check my event logs. Time to disable the Nvidia Streamer Service. Every single crash has been because of it.

GTX 970, always run the latest drivers (including the game ready that the Nvidia Xperience always wants to install) BTW.

Wait there is a guy worse than Zoltan? Fuck me.

The last time I got invested into a fictional card game within a game was Pazaak.

I lost and gained fortunes in that damn game. FORTUNES.

I've beaten him three times and my game has crashed each time. The sadness.

I think the greatest thing to happen in this game is doing some dumb peasant broad's fluff quest and it turning into
reuniting with motherfucking Letho to help fake his death!

That was so goddam cool to do a random, nothing quest and have it turn into something huge and important.

dont know how thats a spoiler... but yea, basically stay in the circle, except when it tries to regen health when it splits into 3 fake ones

50 hours in and just starting Skellige. Starting to feel a little bored while playing now, so I may need to focus more on the main story than I was before.

While I was investigating the rooms in the Barons keep, I overheard 2 guards quote word for word the "bring out the gimp" dialogue from Pulp Fiction.
