You have to commit to the build. There's a skill that gives 25% crit damage boost for every piece of light armor you have (cat school I think it's called) + upgrading your light attack skills + having swords that give a better crit chance and damage. I have the build and I crit a lot, the game is fun with it for me.
Yup. If you commit to it hardcore, it's hella fun!

I just despise these giant maps with "location of interest" in games today. I don't even understand them, fundamentally, and i have played enough assassin creed games, open sandbox games and recently mordor and DA:I that i would be good to avoid them for a while but they're everywhere.

You dont need design like this to incorporate strong world building in your games but they're trendy and help with sales so whatevs.

Can't you just hide them from the map and go 100% blind ?

I know you can do it with all the other icons. Not sure about the Location of Interest one though.

I've somehow spent nearly a hundred hours and I'm just finishing up in novigrad.

Where did the time go I don't even know, this game is starting to look like digital heroin.

Ten levels in and I finally found out that you can swipe up on the ps4 touchpad to open up the world map directly lol. RTFM? Or was this mention d somewhere in game...

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Yeah, my build is a crit build. High mobility, light attacks, increasing crit chance and crit damage output. On the side maining igni and yrden. Crit builds go well with runes and signs that can slow down or immobilise the target as most enemies will take crit damage when attacked from the back. I can alt fire flamethrower a group of characters with igni and it's almost guaranteed to put them into a state of burning, and their brief immobilisation makes them perfect targets for back crit attacks.

I'm confused, I thought you had to have the abilities you get leveling up in the slots to actually use them but the alternate Aard ability was active but not in a slot... I feel like I misread something.

it seems the game is split up into acts. I'm about to finish act 1 (55 hours), and about to move onto skellige. How long are acts 2 and 3 in comparison?

Quite a bit shorter if we're talking main content. Act 1 is a bit longer than act 2 and 3 combined.

Also, my one disappointment with the game was Eredin was a much easier fight than Caranthir and Imlerith.

The alternate abilities aren't working for me unless they're in a slot. :-/

Hoooooly crap. For a game that handles choices and dilemmas so well - even in tiny side quests, the way they resolve relationship drama is so binary and simplistic, it gives BioWare a run for their money.

Twice now the game forced me to choose between "I luv u" and "kthxbai" and neither of those felt appropriate for the situation.
Turning down Yennefer basically requires you to go into full fanfic mode and turn Geralt's feelings into a curse with that awkward dialogue choice.
I don't know if it's like that if you make other choices, but in my game they've set up some really good reasons for Geralt to start caring more for Triss (oh man, she's such a hero in this game), good enough to let Geralt keep his feelings for Yennefer while turning her down, but nope! The long-running love triangle is going to be solved with the breaking of a spell, even though Geralt spends most of this game's interactions with Yennefer being dismissive, sounding insulted and generally cold towards her whenever he wasn't drooling over her artificial good looks and her smell (ugh).

I mean, I know Geralt is supposed to be a bit... simple, but this was some high school romance anime writing, not a fitting end to one of the longest-running narrative threads in the series.
That was such a bummer, I think I'm going to take a break from dialogue-heavy quests and enjoy some peace and quiet, maybe stab a monster in the face and set it on fire. Take a breather, the witcher way.

There was no other way to end that plot point if you wanted to choose the other. They probably could have fleshed out the aftermath and dialogue more I agree.

That's why I'm confused lol some stuff like Axii for dialogue options needs to be in a slot and everything I've put points into needs to be in one to work, yet Aard's alternate was active even though I didn't put it in a slot.

lol the references dont stop in this game! its awesome! asked this blacksmith about a master swordsmith

So I spent the past week beating TW1 and TW2 and finally made my way onto TW3 on PS4 and this game really is something special. I'm about 6 hours in and its everything I hoped for. The atmosphere is unmatched. Yea yea, there are some wonky controls and bugs and all that but I can easily overlook those for what is an amazing open world game. Can't wait to get into it more.

The fifty headshot trophy is the most buggy, impossible trophy I've ever experienced.

You can land a perfect headshot, seeing the bolt going into the head, and not get credit.

And you have to do it 50 times.

The fighting in this game is starting to get frustrating because of the poor controls. It seems like I'm just sliding around everywhere and aiming is so fucking hard with this jerky ass movement. Meanwhile, enemies seem to hit when they're not even aiming at me. Haven't had an opportunity to get good weapons or really strengthen mine and already facing enemies that easily kill me. Then I have to start all at the beginning of an objective that should easily have had one save in between.

So, because of comments like this, I decided to make a basic combat tutorial/tactics video that briefly outlines how to actually fight in this game with just the basic skills and items since I haven't upgraded my signs or unlocked new melee moves. I suspect that most of these comments are coming from people who think that they can just wade in swinging away since when you've committed to an attack is the only time the game feels jerky and non-responsive: it's supposed to because you're making an attack.

Anyway, here's my brief video that shows just how easy it is to dance around enemies as well as some basic tactics to ensure that you don't get hit terribly often. Obviously, there are people who have spent far more time playing this game than I have who are probably better but this might be a good place to start if you're still low level like me and haven't gotten amazing gear or unlocked a ton of skills:

You do realize its not just headshots, but killing headshots right? And they have to be on humans and non-humans (which is admittedly a really confusing term in this game).

Not that that makes it any better.

Has anyone else encountered the bug in the Pyres of Novigrad quest? Where you
have to escape through the secret passage in the cellar, but the hidden button in the wall doesn't work
I'm on PS4

So for someone looking for an RPG to play, is this a game you would recommend? I havnt played the Witcher 1 or 2.

Uh.

Hey, guys, this game has gotten amazing reviews and has a ton of posts saying how much they love the game. Almost universal praise. Would you say this is a good game?

:p

I haven't played any of the other Witcher games. It's not a necessity.

Questing and storyline is subjective. I love the sidequests. All the main stuff in novigrad or whatever has been some of the most excrutiating stuff i have played in a while because there is no pay off. I am taking on a web of chores to fulfill just to chase a
bard who we know has no idea where Ciri is
.

Sorry for sounding frustrated. I am just drained.

Don't like the question marks dotting the map? Simply disable them, no way is the game designed around them.. they are probably intended for a diversion while you are heading in the direction of your quest, not to obsessively go to each one, yes if you somehow feel obliged to go to every ? then you will get burnt out, but that is probably more your fault than the games.

Yes, that makes it way worse. I've been doing it for 30 minutes and I've gotten three. I'm working on my other monitor so it's just something mindless to do during down time, but holy crap is it buggy.

There was no other way because CD Project Red writers chose to write themselves into a corner
during the boat trip by defining Geralt's wish as a request for a magical everlasting relationship, which didn't even come true by then.
The only thing preventing Geralt from choosing Triss (or solitude) over a lifetime of misery was his childish obsession and allowing him to make a choice using his brain for once would show considerable character growth and what happened in Novigrad, at least in my game, was the perfect catalyst.

Gwent is awesome! Finally got around to trying it. Last card game I played was pokemon. Steam rolled everyone until the baron who kicked my arse a few times, now I'm just selling gear for gwent card money. I need a scorcher.

Also I really wish you could set a hotkey to toggle the minimap.

I read this on reddit a few days ago. You can also press and hold the touchpad and you will go straight into Inventory.

This might be common but I learned recently that L1+Square takes you straight to Meditation menu.
