She's in but looks pretty different.

Is it just the combat putting you off? How far are you in the game? I'm playing at the lowest difficulty and I found the starting area a bit challenging. If you ignore what each enemy is weak against then you're gonna have a hard time. For example you need to use oil against the
wraith at the well
and you definitely need to use Yrden/Igni/oil against
Jenny O' the Woods
.

Once you arrive in Velen then it gets a lot easier. Sometimes I check up what enemies are weak against but you become so strong that you can just go in and kick it's ass pretty much anyway you want.

I'd say once you get over that and if you don't dive right into the story then you can spend hours and hours just exploring the world and doing things at your leisure.

Just coming accross every enemy with a skull by their life bar!

I've gone to the second open-world area and I think I'm probably going to find a way back to White Orchard and explore that a little more. I actually thought that White Orchard was the game world... that is one aspect of the game that's truly impressed me, it's frigging huuuuge.

I am going to say something that has been said a thousand times already... but I will say it again because it needs to be said by everyone who experiences it the first time....

OMG SKELLIGE ISLES...F'n Amazing!!! Went there the first time yesterday after around 90 hours in Velen/Orchard.... I love this place. Played 12 hours nonstop at Skellige.

This. I arrived yesterday and played about 2 hours, mainly just exploring. Unbelievable. Love this game so, so much and I never want it to end.

Going to respec. Going for the two first light attack skills, light armor and the rest in alchemy. Ignored the alchemy tree for the most part in my first run but there seems to be a lot if nifty things in it!

CDPR needs a new QoL UI designer.

Buyback at merchants, an indication how much of an item you own in crafting and shop interfaces, sorting(!) options etc.

All small things an inexperienced designer might not think of when creating these interfaces on paper but which become abundantly clear and dearly missed to anyone spending actual time in the game.

I still don't know what build I'll take. Only lvl 22. Got all 3 enhanced bear, feline, and griffin.

:/
The game's pretty easy, just go full fashion souls and don't mind the min/max optimum, imo.

Doesn't matter, by the end nothing can stop you, even on Death March. Red skull enemies are the most challenging but that's about it.

Just choose what you think is fun, there's an easy way to re-spec anyway if you don't like your build later on.

Also, as someone not intimately familiar with classic Nordic and Viking design, I immediately associated the completely ridiculous looking Skellige Gambeson (you all know which one) with a classically Bavarian design.

Are there other historical sources for that? Because I always thought Bavarians had the worst fucking taste in the world and would be shocked to learn that it's based on another region. :lol

Challenge? No doubt. But balance? Not even close. Balance isn't achieved by making everything just suck. I'll give it one thing, it's definitely hardcore. It's going to need a hell of a lot of work to be anything more than a fun little diversion.

Hey man, he is taking all requests and many community requests are already in the mod. Have a problem? Instead of bitching request something or give feedback to make the mod better.

More than a fun little diversion? The base game balance sucks dude. Have you played this mod? Version 1.8?

I don't think you people get these mods or you haven't tried them. Deathmarch is what it sounds like now. Step down your difficulty if you don't want an actual super tough experience. The changes made over the past week alone have been considerable and most of them based on feedback.

It is very apparent to me they work on a budget. They really do indeed need to step their game up in a couple areas.

Nah, I'll continue voicing my opinion in discussion form on a discussion board, thanks.

I'm not saying the mod doesn't have its place. It's just not for me and it's hardly the first hardcore mod that cranks up the difficulty. It's clearly making a more difficult game. I just disagree that cranking up all enemy stats and decreasing every positive stat makes something "balanced." There is ton more nuance to balancing an open-world game than that.

EDIT: Removed to match your edit.

Also I know the loading screens are the "recap" cutscenes, but I'd honestly rather have a loading screen than hear that narrator guy say "operating incognito" one more time.

dammit Triss, I've got some statues for you to free people from yet everytime I talk to you all you say is Well? and never actually initiate dialogue.

Uhu? So she was
the chief of that thieves band robbering soldiers? She was very different.

yeah, she looks a little different but pretty much the same, appearance wise.

Where are you in the game ? I had to wait like 50 hours to finally get that option. :p

that's nothing. she teased me by accepting the statue, we traveled to the secluded spot, then she completely ignored it.

If they are supposed to be the same
The elf from the quest/contract that has the elves attacking the soldiers but the soldiers think it's a monster
then she looks a lot different and despite the face paint looks more plain. Looked more ruthless with the short hair and without the "look at me I'm an elf" face paint.

Same. Supper bummed it bugged out, even if it was a one minute scene with a throwaway character I wanted it.

maybe the devs thought the short hair made her look too ruthless and would sway the player when trying to understand her plight.

Is it possible to get cut off from the Yenn romance entirely before even reaching Skellig? And if so, what to do to avoid it? I like Triss a lot, but don't really want to commit to anything before getting more Yenn scenes.

also i rather liked lambert's initial crappy revenge quest, but wish geralt had more of an opportunity to show lambert all the evidence instead of just crapping on him at the end of the trail

So I guess I missed a quest? Not surprised, but I get that feeling when I notice areas of visual importance that I've never visited or done anything significant with.

I'm talking about the island far south east in Skellige. On the map it shows up as a smallish island with a little bay and a boat icon. There's
a large ship, marked as a boat on the map for some reason, its crew killed and tied up. And on the island itself is a dead bear placed atop an unlit pyre.
No quest arc took me there, and there's nothing in the area to trigger something new.

Wish the Oxenfurt score that plays in-game was available as an instrumental. Occasionally fast travel there just to hear the score and sell odds and ends. Hits all the right spots.

i've read that sleeping with both triss and yenn you get the cutscene with a
"supposed" threesome, only to find out they were tricking you
(lol). the thing is though, I DID sleep with both of them (not at the same time of course) and that didn't happen to me. luckily I suppose, i ended up with triss. she's been with me since witcher 1, felt like an appropriate candidate to settle with.

That's actually a good point. When I met her I thought maybe we could come to an agreement but was straight up denied (and resulted in a super cool fight for me because I didn't expect it) but if I met the original then I'd maybe have been a bit more aggressive or taken her more seriously or something.

I encountered that too. There was some loot there I think, but I don't know if there was a marker. Was a cool touch though.

Gah! Can't decide between medium armor/sign build or light armor/alchemy build. Both are fun. Gonna end up wasting thousands of gold on respec potions...

Going by memory, that short haired elf looks similar to the one north, north-east of Hanged Man's Tree. She's in a house, with several bandits threatening to torch it, unless she tells them where she keeps her valuables.

Reading the first book atm, it's making it a bit harder to properly roleplay Geralt - he's not afraid to walk away from a quest if it doesn't interest him, but my OCD says I have to do it all, even though some people I wouldn't give a shit about.

edit: except the horse races. Book Geralt would not give a flying fuck about those, and so do I.

Did you side with
Cerys or Hjalmar during the investigation after the werebear attack? Can someone who sided with Hjalmar say if that island's a part of his quest? (Because the bear on the pyre is obviously a werebear and apparently Hjalmar's side of the quest is about taking them out.)

There's also at least one more abandoned ship with an icon, though the island next to it had nothing interesting on it. Just one corpse with a few orens on him. It's in the east, around the underwater crater you go to with Yen.

I haven't actually played the game yet but been watching my brother do so, and i remember the bit you're talking about. I thought the same, immediately reminded me of her from the previews and i thought she might become a recurring character/face. Though now it looks like they just switched some of the faces around before release.

Ah yeah, I ran into her. She's cool too, but she's part of like a 1 minute quest out in the middle of no where. Top picture looks like someone who'd be part of the main story or something, guess not.

More she-elves in the expansion, pls CDPR

Forgot what the quest with her was but just recently she attacked me outside of Novigrad and said I betrayed her. No idea what I've done to her.
Had to kill her. Fuck this world.

I also ran into the abandoned village/bar cavern area, was thinking it might be part of Hjalmar's investigation.

Another place I ran into was in the middle of the forest in Velen somewhere, there was a circle of rocks with symbols on them and candles you could light I believe. Was an interesting spot but was never used.

According to the guide
you go to the island South West of Ard Skellig for his quest.

What tools are people using to take cinematic style screenshots? Is it a console command for free camera? Can you pause the game while this happens?

Finally got my apartment/living room back after nearly three weeks of renovation. Got a new TV as well. Gonna play this like crazy tonight!

Last time I saw Geralt, he was just helping out Triss for the first time in Novigrad. I suspect there's quite a bit left before I can say goodbye.

After like 50 hours of rocking bears, cats and griffins, it's cool to not wear witcher gear for a while. Hitting Skellige POIs at level 30 actually gives you quite a selection since apparently all of that loot scales. This is Oathbreaker armor with the swords Bloodmoon and Caroline. So much cooler than "Mastercrafted Cat" or whatever.

According to the guide
you go to the island South West of Ard Skellig for his quest.
That's Lord of Undvik, I mean the part of King's Gambit where you choose to either do detective work with Cerys or go take revenge with Hjalmar. I did the detective work.

Went back through the major decisions with the help of the debug mode and got the good ending, much better. The bad ending is absolutely harrowing.

The colour of the game afterwards is a nice touch too -
if you manage the bad end, it desaturates, going nearly black and white. If you go with the either of the good ends, the the colours stay the same, one of them a bit more vibrant.

In King's Gambit. I did Cery's side , but according to the guide in Hjalmars side you ride to Fornhala South West Ard Skellig.
