Annnndd, got the Mastercrafted Wolven Armor done, overall it looks really nice, a lot more in line with what a Witcher would wear, going to use it til the end of the game I think.
When the Play Gwent option is in large yellow font with a card icon next to it means winning the match nets you a unique card. The first one is in White Orchard from a guy at the Inn. Also, you can buy them from some merchants. Beating certain people will initiate Gwent Quests and new opponents to play. There are several guides available for it.
I still haven't seen where to pick up the wolf school gear quest. I mean I've watched some youtube videos that shows you going to skellige to get a map from a merchant. I haven't left Novigrad yet though. Anyone care to spell out for me how to begin the quest?
Novigrad sells two of the maps.
The Blacksmith of Lindenvale sells one map.
The Armorer in Novigrad square sells one map.
The Armorer in Kaer Trolde Castle sells one map.
The Blacksmith in Kaer Muire sells one map.
I haven't figured out who the hell
the one in "Novigrad square"
is though. I thought it was one particular guy but he doesn't sell shit. Got all the others..
Post-game and I still have the statuette quests in my journal, even though I can no longer talk to Triss. That objective says 'failed', but the quests themselves don't.
And yeah, it's the 'top notch swords' guy that doesn't actually sell swords. Just bought it from him.
Hmmm ... I have all those checked off but I don't see that name listed. Perhaps I haven't been given his name yet? I just got Ciri's Hero card that I got from the Scoiatel merchant in the same quest line, and that was the last one I have played.

I am terrible at this game. I was bad at Witcher 2 also. I really like the game so far but I guess I just don't know how to play it. I'm frustrated by the combat controls more often than not.
I am very early on, only level 4.
I tried to do the quest where I save or kill the Baron
's botchling
and wasn't prepared for that. That boss kicked my ass and I don't have the materials to make the right oil.
I tried saving it
but got killed by some wraiths (I think) and then the boss fight happened anyway. I figured out
I could calm the botchling
but then I couldn't get past the wraith part. I didn't even come close.
So I gave up, annoyed that there was no way to abandon the quest and I had to reload an earlier save. I feel like you can really fuck yourself over in this game unless I'm missing something.
Then I chose the quest where you have to
find the Witch and travel through the elven caves with her.
That was going fine until there was a
golem boss fight.
I have barely any health, no alcohol to refill my potions, and no consumable health items. I barely do any damage to the boss. I don't stand a chance. I don't want to do this whole quest again.
I'm playing on the second-hardest difficulty because I heard the game was too easy. Ugh. Thinking about lowering the difficulty because I'm enjoying everything but the combat.

I was about to say. Your problem is that you're rushing, Sullichin. Already several quests deep into the Baron's plotline at level 4 is a bit crazy. How little did you even do in White Orchard?
I believe they were level 5 and 6. Didn't think it would be much of an issue considering the text was still green. I don't know how the level scaling works. The witch quest is the lowest level quest I have accessible. I guess I should find more side quests. I'm mostly just doing the story quests as I find them. Then the quest goes fine until some boss fight I'm really not prepared for.
I don't think I spoiled anything.. this is early in the game and I wasn't very specific. But I suppose people are sensitive.

Early game, the levels do matter a bit, as well as the number of places of power you discovered, what with the skills and all that.
Did you also craft some better gear? Potions? Bombs?
Either way, you can also just do some witcher contracts or sidequests to gain levels, or just simply turn down the difficulty.
I'm actually surprised you're this far in and still only level 4 actually.

No better gear. I found a better silver sword in the second quest I mentioned in my post.
Only have swallow and thunderbolt potions but no alcohol to make more. I don't think I have enough mats to make any bombs. I barely have any crowns.
Lol, I guess I just got ahead of myself. I just naturally went along with the story and didn't consider that I would probably have to do some side quests first to keep up.
Just finished yesterday. Level 32, roughly 60+ hours. I'm debating when to try a second play-through because of DLC etc. Heck, I didn't even pick up some of the DLC armor/crossbow either because of where I was in the storyline at the time. I didn't even experience the
Dijkstra vs Roche
storyline that others have mentioned here. I need to try more of the secondary quests the next time around. And choose Triss...definitely. Yen's a bitch.
After playing a crazy amount of this game (for me at least) in the first two weeks (at least 55 hours) I have taken the last 5 or so days off. I am about to dive back in full speed ahead. Can anyone who has finished the game give me an idea of how much further I have in the main story?

Always check the bestiary. Kill an enemy once and it'll update with that type's information, including its weaknesses (signs, bombs, oils).
Learn how to best use the two tier evade system: roll uses stamina, and is best used to escape/create space in an emergency. Dodge when an enemy attacks to create an opening for attack. Dodge uses no stamina, so try to stick to this as often as you can.
Make use of potions as often as you can. Two of these best for early game are:
Swallow - health regen
Tawny Owl - Stamina regen
Make oils as soon as you can, maybe even spend some time hunting down oil recopies. Remember you can dismantle items for specific ingredients if you're having trouble finding them.
Crossbow knocks things out of the sky/one shots underwater enemies.
If you're really having trouble then find a group of tricky enemies (wraiths or drowners are good for this) and practise evading until you can survive indefinitely while surrounded. one you have this down, start introducing strikes and other attacks.
It can take some time getting used to it, be patient.

Weakness or not, I would recommend just experimenting with all the signs in general. Yrden is great to create more breathing space if you're fighting groups of enemies like drowners/nekkers. Quen is always a good buffer, etc. Axii can usually stun someone for CC.

It depends. If you haven't been to Skellige yet, then you won't being going there for awhile, unless you ignore all of the side quest and just focus on the main quests.

I finished the game a week ago and have no desire to do another playthrough. I was satisfied with the ending I got and highly enjoyed the journey, but I just don't have the interest to replay it again. Is there anyone else feeling the same way?
I might do another playthrough when CDPR releases a new game-mode or more content is included in an Enhanced Edition.

New Game plus is heavily rumoured, plus incoming expansions that promise a lot of content, plus Redkit... then the inevitable enhanced edition.
Plus if you play on PC, future upgrades will allow you to up the visuals.
There's going to be lots of reason in the future to replay. No rush. This will be a game I complete then come back to in a couple of years once all the content and improvements have been added.
Thanks guys. I have been doing a lot of side quests and contracts and have been taking my time because I enjoy the world so much. Glad to hear I am still a ways from the end.

I bet most feel that way, no matter how much you enjoy a game its not easy to immediately jump back in and start playing again, especially one as huge as this. I finally replayed Witcher 2 for Roche's path just last year.
The frustrating bullshit in this game is finally rearing its head at about a dozen hours in. Namely it's fighting large groups of human enemies with archers. You can parry and dodge all day, but these fuckers will just now you down and you can do nothing about it. Really fucking annoying.

Also I hate not being able to fast travel at any time. Super annoying to have to run for a minute each time I want to go somewhere. I don't see the point.

The first skill in one of the melee trees is to block arrows. The second is parrying them back.
Do that, or run and axii mind control fools so each enemy 2 shots their bros one by one. If you axii an Archer, he has a good chance of killing a few from a distance before he goes down. Hide and axii is your friend for every mob
