I don't think that's true at all, but he was raised by a bunch of uncles who only knew how to kill monsters, so he's not exactly well-adjusted. For the most part he's a perfectly natural self-loathing drama queen.

i thought this happened to all witchers. Geralt has referenced it several times so far.

by the way, ever since Triss's party sidequest I've been wearing this stupid Wolf mask and I can't bring myself to take it off. It definitely made the Play main quest more enjoyable

Whenever Geralt brings that up he's either lying or being sarcastic. This is actually spelled out in one of the short stories in Sword of Destiny.

It's a myth created by the common folk to enable them to point the finger. Geralt just goes with it when it suits him.

Wouldn't be a fun protagonist if that's true though.

Hah, nice.

I take you playing on a PS4 or Xbone, on PC the difference is quite obvious.

I've noticed them on the 'Bone as well. They're few and far between, but they're there. They're less noticable than last-gen, where everything prerendered looked like a 204p YouTube video, but the outfits reverting back to normal was a dead giveaway.

This djinn gives a grand total of zero fucks about my Dimetrium bomb. Literally hurts me more than it since when I go to give him an ass whooping I forget my ASL.

If Geralt had no emotions he wouldn't care for Ciri at all.

Actually something went wrong with geralts mutations (which gave him the white hair, I think right?) and his emotions weren't stripped away as much as they usually other in other witchers so that's part of what makes him special he's a compassionate witcher.

Screw the wolf armor. I have this now.

And it looks better IMO. Those witcher swords though.... gotta get me those.

Also...

What a view...

Nothing went wrong. From what I remember in the books, he was chosen for additional mutations and he was the only one to survive the experiments. His white hair color was a side effect.

So, yesterday I got to
Skellige
after doing all main quests at
Velen and Novigrad
and every other quest (except for Gwent ones) below level 20.

Level 21 currently, with full enhanced feline gear. How far am I from the end? (I'd guess I'm halfway through, but I just can't tell). And I'm also a bit disappointed with
The Wild Hunt, despite being the main title of the game, they barely appear at all, I was really expecting they'd be a major part of the plot

Lol yeah.
After crafted the superior Wolf set earlier, I just ended up switching back to my Ursine set.

Anyway, finishing Ciri quest from
the misty islands all the way to Kaer Morhen and a couple quest after that
ended up giving me a whooping 5 levels, from 25 to 30.
Story quest exp is totally insane.

I'm so bad on death march difficulty

Any tips for a newcomer to this game?
Here's a really good post from a few pages back

Some advice:

Always check the bestiary. Kill an enemy once and it'll update with that type's information, including its weaknesses (signs, bombs, oils).

Learn how to best use the two tier evade system: roll uses stamina, and is best used to escape/create space in an emergency. Dodge when an enemy attacks to create an opening for attack. Dodge uses no stamina, so try to stick to this as often as you can.

Make use of potions as often as you can. Two of these best for early game are:

Swallow - health regen
Tawny Owl - Stamina regen

Make oils as soon as you can, maybe even spend some time hunting down oil recopies. Remember you can dismantle items for specific ingredients if you're having trouble finding them.

Crossbow knocks things out of the sky/one shots underwater enemies.

Don't spam attack, enemies will punish you. Create space, strike 2-3 times, dodge away/counter.

If you're really having trouble then find a group of tricky enemies (wraiths or drowners are good for this) and practise evading until you can survive indefinitely while surrounded. one you have this down, start introducing strikes and other attacks.

It can take some time getting used to it, be patient.

The frustrating bullshit in this game is finally rearing its head at about a dozen hours in. Namely it's fighting large groups of human enemies with archers. You can parry and dodge all day, but these fuckers will just now you down and you can do nothing about it. Really fucking annoying.
If you can position yourself with an enemy between you and the archer, he'll end up hitting his own peeps for high damage. The extended force push sign is handy too and also fun.

Quen, then roll towards the archers. They won't have the time to pull their melee weapon before you hack them to bits. I always prioritize archers in any fight involving human groups. Definitely makes the battle way easier. Two hit kills (or one Critical Hit) from archers on Death March is the bane of my Geralt existence in lower levels (along with Drowners and Wolves). Not that much of a problem once you have some sklill points to put in though.

I'm in Skellige, and there's a yellow exclamation mark quest that won't start for me. It's a druid who's quite close to
the other 'alchemy master' druid who sends you on a wild goose chase
. This particular guy is clearly the one who kicks off this quest, but when I talk to him he just mumbles a random NPC response and nothing happens. Do I need to do something else to make this one start?

Well, we saw other witchers, they definitely have emotions too, especially lambert

Ignore it, it is not a quest, just a minibug.

Woo, I had forgotten that my company has the day off tomorrow. I was looking forward to gaming after work but now I'm just gonna do the whole endgame in one session tomorrow instead, and it will be both glorious and sad. I only have main quests still running now and I can feel the end coming at lightspeed, and I don't want it. Please release the expansions 6 months early, CDPR.

Well, you can also attack them without getting hit. Found all Ciri fights fun. Nice change of pace.

I thought so too, the fights with Ciri are real fun. Especially the Part on the Ice
shortly before you meet with Caranthir
she hacks and slashes through the enemies like a madman. Loving it.

took a peak at a no spoiler quest list
im alot farther than i thought i was
on Ugly Baby now

I'm on that same story quest, how much of the story is left? I know that the game is roughly divided into three acts and I'm still on the first, surely the second and third can't be as long right? This game is really, really long. Though I've been doing every side quest.

Debunked above apparently, book lore tells us.

And none if the other Witchers are emotionless. Bitter and hardened due to the discrimination and hatred they gave in a daily basis, but far from emotionless.

Geralt is always sarcastic when he references this in game, too.

Bestiary is a worthless, lying sack of shit 50% of the time. :l

How so?

is there anyway to see how long you've actually played for (on ps4)? The game says i've played for 17 days, but it's gotta be wayyyy off. i'd guess i'm closer to 50 hours or so, but i have no other way to tell

The Playtime Counter on the PS4 is totally broken. I thing I dumped way over 180 hours over the last 4 weeks into the Game and it tells me I played it for 3 Days and a few hours.

Popping in just to say how much I've enjoyed the game so far. Fantastic. Wasn't even on my radar before release. I was wary of it since GAF *also* recommended Dragon Age which didn't at all click with me.

I love this, though. Surprised by how good the writing is! Genuinely interested in the world and its inhabitants. Hell, the side missions and contracts are keeping me away from the main story. That good. Finally got a grasp of combat/skill tree and magic, but alchemy is another beast I've yet to figure out. I generally avoid it in other games so maybe it's just me. Would love to get some potions though.

Oh, and props to the devs for including so many cool bonuses. Soundtrack? Compendium? They deserve all the praise.

Just when I think I'm getting a handle on my Gwent addiction, I undertake a set of main/side mission where I'm repeatedly given the option of playing a round of Gwent.

"We've got some time to spare, care to play a hand of Gwent?"

CD Projekt pls. I'm not even a third of the way through the game (I think) and Arkham Knight is out in five days.

fantastic game indeed, looks beautiful on PC (i7 4790k and gtx 980) and the story/gameplay is fantastic. Combat system is a bit.. special. 60 hours in so far!

the only negative thing I can find is that controlling roach is not fun at all. Stops at his own will and just feels janky as hell.

Also the "It takes three to tango" quest when romancing both triss + Yen.. What a huge letdown! I wasn't expecting to get both but some more drama or scenes would have been better, this felt kind of anticlimatic :/

Far and away my biggest annoyance with the game. Randomly stopping, inconsistency in what it's okay with navigating, often slow and unresponsive.

Maybe it's because I'm playing with a keyboard and mouse, but I don't find controlling Roach to be that frustrating. The only annoying thing for me is running out of Stamina during races and having to block the other racers so they don't go past me.

Having played Red Dead Redemption, the animation and controls for Roach are incredibly jarring by comparison. It feels a little bush league, probably my only criticism of the game.

Feels mostly fine to me using KB/M when controlling the direction manually. Only problems I notice are auto path finding and collision within dense areas, which also affects whistling to Roach in places where he can get stuck. Swimming controls OTOH can feel straight up frustrating :p

i went through like 3/4 of the game before realizing you could loot monster's nests, and that was only because there was a quest item in one of them lol.

so much loot just left lying there ;_;

Is this ever mentioned as a tip in-game? As like you I didn't realize this until later, figuring I'd destroyed them. Some great loot there.

Yeah I should have clarified that I'm playing with x360 controller on PC and there Roach just feels.. off! I have tried different sensitivity settings but I just can't get a good grip on him. Randomly stopping and just not sure what is ok and not when navigating, as previously posted.
