Does the game let you know when you're moving from act 1 to act 2? I've read it can prevent you finishing some quests so don't want that.

Yes, it explicitly tells you that you're about to progress and some quests won't be available anymore/will fail. It asks you to save or turn back.

Thanks for the tips guys. I found about the Viper sword, so i went and got that, then went back to the werewolf in the cave and demolished him first time. Now just leaving the caves with the witch. Quen is so good now that i understand how to use it effectively. Upgrading the armour and using the thunderbolt potion in battles makes it much more playable.

Just did the Possession quest in Spikeroog.

Had a feeling it was going to be a mundane quest, boy was I wrong.

This game is dark man.

This game...

I did that last night as well. I said damn!
Esp when that woman asks you to put the baby in the oven... like WTF man. I decided to do it, and was happy it all worked out, but have no idea how that baby was saved. The whole quest was good. From that creepy house, from that scream when he pokes out his eye, to the Yen discussions lol

I'm mostly done with the game now, but I wish that prior to starting I had had a list of the game's side quests categorized as interesting, important NPC, or shitty. I spent way too much time on the trashy filler quests.

Am i the only that thinks novingrad quest to be a bit boring?

I thought it was a nice change of pace from being out in the wilds, but by the end of it I was definitely longing to get back out and explore the wilderness some more.

Unfortunately the game misleads you into thinking you can't head over to Skellige until level 16, when in reality there are quests in Skellige that start as low as level 12. I imagine the pacing is quite a bit better if you jump across the sea a bit earlier rather than doing everything in Novigrad all at once.

So I'm sure this has been asked a million times already but regarding the choice to romance Triss versus Yennefer:
Where is the point of no return in terms of choosing to romance one versus the other? For reference, I'm about 80 hours in and haven't even touched Skellige, so I have barely interacted with Yen. Yet I'm starting "Now or Never" quest with Triss and based on skimming some internet info, this is the quest that can decide whether you're locked in to Triss as your romance?

Basically, should I hold off going forward with this quest with Triss if it risks screwing things up with Yennefer? Should I wait and come back to it later?

There will be a point where you can tell Triss you love her. If you want to have a full relationship with Yen, don't do that. They'll both find out that you're playing them both eventually if you do.
I made a big mistake with this myself unfortunately.

Yes, your decision in "Now or Never" decides whether you're locked in with Triss or not. If you'd like, you can go to Skellige now to start interacting with Yennefer. Her romance quest is called
The Last Wish
. Once you get there, you should have a good idea about whom you'd like to romance.

Welp.
I've already slept with both Triss and Yen. Still have the Last Wish quest to go though.
I am already dead, aren't I?

All of them :)

it's pretty funny doing lower level quests after doing a bunch of story stuff.
I literally just stepped off a mountain defeating an elven general and the effective gods of valen and now I'm helping this dumb elf with being threatened by some baby thugs so he can make me a cool sword i will probably sell right back to hi

moderately amusing questline, off to do a few contracts and maybe finish playing cards

Thanks for the heads up.

The whole setup for the "Now or Never" quest makes it seem really time sensitive but I guess I'll reload from right before that and finally head off to Skelige. Or maybe actually try to advance the main story.

As far as I know,
sleeping with Yennefer on the unicorn has no ramifications in regards to your romance with Triss. If you tell Yen you love her during the The Last Wish though, you're going to have problems.

If you expressed your feelings for Triss at the docks and told her you love her
, then...yea lol. Can't have both!

You can still
stay with Triss, but you'll have to tell Yen that you don't love her at the end of the Last Wish.

Ah thanks guys. I prefer Triss anyway, so good to know I can still survive.
Feels wrong to go against canon tho =/

Did they wipe playtime with a patch recently?

I'm playing on PS4 and the other week I had about 30 hours, just checked my playtime log and it's back down to only 3 hours played

=\ kind of a bummer, i enjoy tracking that stuff

I just finished the game, I did all of the sidequests I could find and all contracts and finished at a time of 81 hours and 20 minutes. You guys shouldn't worry too much about this game going on for hundreds of hours unless you want to find all of those stupid question marks. I say just ignore those.

I can't see how this game wouldn't be GOTY. It was fucking amazing. I got the ending where
you meet Ciri in the bar and you give her the sword
. It was perfect.

How do you turn off or on DLC? Triss's new outfit is ridiculous and I can't seem to find how to turn it off...

Edit: Nevermind, had to go to the main menu before loading something.

So I'm coming back to my rig tomorrow after 6 weeks and yet have to download and play this game. I guess most launch issues are now sorted? Anything in particular to pay attention to? Any mods to recommend or ini tweaks that are a must have? (GTX 970, i7 4790k, 16 GB ram)

I know it's an arbitrary thing that comes from a strategy guide, but what's considered the final quest/event in Act 1 (please spoiler tag for other people)?

I miss this game. Been listening to the soundtrack past few days, but still unable to play it.

Probably going to jump on Driveclub or N++ later to cheer myself up. Why did my friggin' blu-ray drive crap out >_<

Got all the Gwent cards! I thought I missed the ones in the Kingfisher but apparently my checklist was flawed. Can I put Gwent in a separate slot on my GOTY list? Fucking love that game.

Wait so there's more than one statuette?

I found two.

I believe the last event is when you and Yen resurrect that corpse. I don't remember the name of that quest, but I think "Ugly Baby" is the start of Act 2 since you'll fail certain side quests if you advance past that point

138 glorious hours. Almost all the main quests (even tons of sidequests) were extremely well written. They seemed to just really nail the tone and vibe. Sidequests sometimes tied back into the main narrative in interesting ways.

I really think Witcher 3 is going to spoil all RPG games in the future for me. Even reflecting on my 100+ hours with Dragon Age Inquisition which I enjoyed at the time... It's just not even close.
