That Ghosts Of The Past mission was not expecting a simple job branch into that

Same. I was like,
"Is that Letho?" Then Geralt was like, "Is that you Letho?" I ended up letting those bandits get his medallion instead of his head and directed him to Kaer Morhen. He's had a rough time and deserves a restin'.

I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to find a vendor to sell my chunk so I can finally walk around.

I envy you PC players.

Yeah, I make 100% sure that I've read them then I sell them. They only sell for 1 gold each but they clutter up all my potions and oils.

I wish the game had containers to store loot we don't want to carry around all the time. Also I wish the game allowed us to sort our inventories by weight, value, type and rarity.

It does not but it does seem to remember where you drop loot. So I've been doing that for things not too important/expensive that I don't want to sell (like books). Just drop them somewhere you'll remember (my biggest spot is the entrance to the town the bloody Baron resides in right now).

Anyone knows a merchant that sells dog tallow, in large amounts preferably ? Need it to get some oils done finally but found only one guy that sells it. Or rather sold the only one he had to me.

I felt really bad about that one because I killed her immediately because I'm used to succubus being evil demons but then I read the bestiary and it said that they're mostly harmless :(

You monster, she just wanted some snu-snu.

is sex not a weapon?
are there no women who enjoy/flaunt their sexuality?
There are but it needs to be handled carefully. CDPR didn't and simply objectified her. Just look at her outfit, you can always see her teats and when she states that she needs to change into more suitable clothes for adventuring, her blouse is the same. Using sex as a weapon should certainly be more subtle than just flashing boobs in your face every second - it's especially pathetic that she's a freaking sorceress and has many more tools at her disposal, making all the sex appeal narratively moot and simply patronizing.

Complaints sbout Novigrad as a quest hub are strange to me. The running around was clearly intentional as it has you run into some really cool contracts and side missions on top of all the useful vendors and gwent players.

I'm trying to do it right now. I'll let you know what I did if I get to it.

Walk around the mountain, there's a path. Follow it and you will see some mist monsters with Lv. ??. Run past them, there's a giant door. It's locked. Abuse the buggy climbing (almost as bad as Skyrim lol) to go OVER the cave behind that door (that part took me over an hour), then slide down the other side. A short climb later you can get to the point of power lol. To go back you need to enter the cave (no monsters in there) from the other side and fall down some deep hole into a lake. Just follow that and you'll stand outside the mountain again. You even get a cool sword from the cave.

It's funny, I literally did this 5 minutes ago :D

I wonder how you get that key though, that quest could be really interesting. When you fall down into that lake in the cave there's a part with shallow water. In the water stands a cooking pot, surrounded by human limbs. No monsters though. I bet the enemy didn't spawn because I didn't have the quest when I entered the cave :(

How do I get to this place of power in velen? The road on the map that apparently leads to it isn't a road at all it's dense forest and it's on this massive mountain that is not climbable. And on the east face of it there is a ?? basalisk that keeps me from freely exploring that path.

I think it's gotta do with the gates to the west of it but those probably don't open unless it's for story reasons so maybe I'm just not supposed to go here yet?

Probably the nearby cave.

It's confusing how they do that stuff - makes me wish it more clearly marked things that are underground.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I dont know if I hate the weight limit or love it. On one hand its annoying we cant run, but on the other... I absolutely love the moment when I am overburdened with all the loot after clearing an area and on my way to a shop/armorer/blacksmith to sell them.

After upgrading to 130 max bag cap in Velen, I am finding I have plenty of space. I am usually hovering around 80 at any given moment, and I loot everything. The biggest issue is that people should probably opt to dig through their junk tab and make sure to sell off excess pelts and ladders and whatnot, which is where the bulk of my inventory space was weighing me down.

You accumulate huge bundles of deer, wolf, and bear pelts(on top of other heavy items like ladders) just looting random crates and bags in Velen and letting that all sit in your inventory can dramatically top out your limit, and its very easy to ignore if people only focus on weapon and armor mgmt to clean out your bags.

Not really finding the inventory limit a problem with the occasional bag upkeep. Still, the game does not provide efficient tools to manage all that stuff which is a real UI problem and can really detract from the progression momentum.

My point isn't that Skyrim is perfect for that. My point is that Skyrim is more aimed at that (and it's not just character creation btw). Where as Witcher is not. Witcher is aimed at playing a story. The choices you are given are more "What would Geralt have done" keeping in mind his motivations and him trying to think the best option there. You are just playing a character in a story. You are given choices in how you think he would have handled it, but it's less roleplaying oriented and more playing a story oriented.
But that's what roleplaying is, like I said. Trying to get into Geralt's headspace is the actual definition of roleplaying. Being able to choose between ranged and melee combat is roleplaying too, I guess, but a far weaker interpretation of it. Skyrim doesn't "fail in some aspects" of roleplaying, it simply doesn't offer it at all. Since you had zero examples, besides combat situations, of when Skyrim offers actual roleplaying, I'm gonna have to assume that you concede that it doesn't actually offer any.

They should really be ashamed of how they handled the
Keira Metz
character. Just blatant objectification and at most a tired "sex is her weapon" cliche.
The game offers like a 5 hour quest starring her and 4 minutes and 58 seconds of said quest is talking and getting to know her, while fighting together with her (in a situation where Geralt would've been dead if it wasn't for her), and forming a friendship. There's a 2 minute sex scene.

You're deciding to ignore the 4h58m so you can be angry about those 2 minutes, but the game is the one reducing her to a sexual object. Uh huh. Okay.

This game has so much depth its just difficult to understand it (as a newcomer)

- I have trouble to craft items (or find items needed to craft)
- Using points to upgrade stuff, there is so much I dont know what to upgrade
- Dont understand how to create bombs to destroy monster nest
- All those options are just so much that as a newcomer Im so lost :(
  • Don't worry about crafting right away. You'll find crafting recipes as you play, and it will be obvious which ones you want to make. At that point, it's just a matter of buying or disassembling what you have to get the required mats. One tip, though: don't disassemble or sell witcher-class gear (green) because they can be upgraded into useful items.
  • For upgrade points, just choose whatever benefits you the most. For example, I really love my signs so those are what I went deep into upgrading. One thing to note is that alchemy, combat, and signs are in three distinct groupings, and bundling similarly-grouped items together will boost the similarly-grouped mutagen slot (green for alchemy, red for combat, blue for signs).
  • For alchemy, once you make an item it's yours. Initially you need all the ingredients, but afterwards there's a reduced ingredient cost (I think). You'll come across a huge amount of alchemy plans as you adventure, including bombs and such, at which point you'll want to either find or buy the ingredients to make them. Alchemy potions and bombs can make huge differences in combat - be sure to make note of what they actually do.
  • In regards to being lost, just do what you want! The only rule of thumb is try to stay in your level range (green-coded quests/objectives/enemies) to avoid frustration. By doing this, you'll naturally prepare yourself for higher level content.

Now good luck, and good hunting.

I was the same, just take a deep breath and it'll be ok! All will eventually become second nature but it really does through some stuff at you at first.

Upgrade what you like using the most, be it swords or magic. Save you points and see what you find yourself doing the most.
You make bombs in alchemy I believe. You may have yet to come across something to enable you to make one though.

I strongly disagree. They shouldn't be ashamed. Women like sex too believe it or not. Shes a
sorceress
, you know she has ulterior motives. Its your own fault if you take the bait.

She's a pretty cool character actually and all of the
sorceresses
are well written. Its an underlying theme throughout the game how competent and agency-filled women are.
From the lodge to Cerys
. CDPR actually hit it out the park on their depiction of women in the game, which is something to note as their past with Witcher 1 will always be held against them.

For those who have finished the game, if
the An Eye for an Eye quest from Roche is broken for me, does that mean I can never progress with the Radovid assassination quest chain?

Its not complicated really. You start with Samum bombs which alone can take out monster nests. You don't throw them at the nests but instead interact with them as if you are looting the nest(with at least one bomb in your inventory) and Geralt will plant the bomb to detonate.

The alchemy menu has all of your recipes, and once you craft potions, bombs, etc.. the first time, they need not be crafted again and are sitting in your conumable tab of your inventory to be equipped for use at any time. They have limited charges, but refill after meditation(using one alcohol in your inventory for potions). So if you reach a monster nest and have used up all of your bombs, like Samum, then just meditate for 1 hour to get them back.

If there is a recipe in alchemy you don't have the ingredients for. Just keep mindful of what it is and as you explore you'll likely run into it, either by picking different flowers, earning it off monsters, or buying from shops. Only the higher level crafting goods can have some tricky recipe items, but where you must be in the game, everything you need for basic stuff is all around you.

For alchemy, when you make something once like bombs and oil you don't have to craft them again. Once you run out of bombs meditate to use alcohest and regenerate them.

Keira is fine, since she is going out of her way to
butter you up to manipulate you.
Triss is a little ridiculous though, seeing that she apparently gotten a boob job in the last six months and she's wearing a leather top tight enough to look painted on. Her Witcher 2 look wasn't as dumb while letting you know that she's still an attractive woman.

As sorceresses go, I dig Yen's style.

Only use lock on sometimes - it can actually make thing more difficult when you're surrounded by fast, leaping enemies like Nekkers or Drowners.

Use dodge in close combat most of the time. It usually positions you flanking or behind the person you are focused on and, unlike roll, it doesn't use stamina up.

If you are facing a group with archers try to get the archers first unless you can use cover to block their sight lines.

Use Quen against fast leaping enemies if you are having trouble dodging them.

Once you enter combat you can't apply oil to your weapons but you can use the inventory screen to change which grenades you are using, to drink potions (whether in quick slots or not), change which potions or food items are in the quick slots. Note that although you can drink potions whether they are in the quick slots or not, to eat food you have to put it in a quick slot and use it the normal way.

That bit you did where you had to fight creatures in the bubble - I used Quen and then Igni on the critters. If you position yourself towards the middle off the bubble you can quick attack two or three times before you have to leap back with dodge To avoid leaving the bubble.

Cheers! This is really good advice and should help a lot. Some excellent sounding strategies :)

I'm pretty sure the quest I am doings is fucking bugged right now. Early Novigrad spoilers

I went with Triss to Menge's compound and had to kill all the Witch Hunters as well as Menge. I killed all but one Witch Hunter and Menge and according to the map the last hunter is right outside the door to the compound. Thing is, I can't get out there. The door won't open.

I'm going to be more or less repeating my reply to the other guy.
The sex-scene isn't the objectifying part. Her outfit blatantly exposes her tits and you can see them (from the side) whenever you talk to her throughout the whole 5 hours, and then there's the initial scene where she's completely naked in a bath tub for no reason whatsoever. It's made all the more pathetic because she is supposed to be an intelligent and powerful sorceress, yet she has to use such obvious and juvenile tactics? And really it's demeaning to Geralt/the player to think that constantly exposing your breasts will make him do anything you want.

The game does disempower her. Case and point: she states that she must get int oclothes more suitable for the adventure, yet she returns wearing the same exact, exposing blouse. This shows that having her tits visible is not something the character really chooses for any narrative or personal reasons but is due to the developer wanting to patronize their players.

Also, there's the whole stupidity of saving her from rats and many other narratively weak things about the quest.

Just used the alternate Axii sign for the first time. Damn. Managed to use it on a Bandit leader and he just slaughtered his whole camp. Used it again and it didn't dispel when I hit him. That's damn good. Might even say it's OP, but I'll have to use it more often before I make that statement. Sure, it has a long charging time to counterbalance this, but does it really matter when you can cast it before the enemies even see you?

In a semi-nonspoilery way, what are the pros and cons of choosing Triss, Yen, or Neither.

Triss and Yen are the only ones you can have a "relationship" as opposed to just sleep with correct?

I'm only doing one play through, at least for a while and I want to try for the "best" outcome in terms of how everything ends up playing out.

I'm assuming whoever you pick has a large effect on the ending.

I take it back. this is smart. lol

The game does have issues with its inventory. I wish the horse could hold more items. I thought my upgrade to 90 was a big deal, but i tend to get it full after roaming around and doing quests.

I actually feel like this game is the best of this type I've ever played with regard to inventory. I've honestly been over encumbered 1 single time throughout. Otherwise I'm pretty far away from the limit, and I'm looting shit like bandit on a rampage.

You should try and grab the +70 or +100 saddlebags, though.

Just a quick correction on your points that you can absolutely eat food in your inventory the same way as you do drink potions. No need to quick slot them first.

So I downloaded the beards and armor DLC.

Saved, then I prompted to quit to main menu to reload the game. No new armor in my inventory?

I don't get it... why did this have to be made so cumbersome?

Where do I need to go to get this extra armor ?

Why would you expect it to be free? It's just more content added seamlessly into the game. A merchant near the start sells the horse armor and Temerian set. For money.

Also, the second DLC batch (new contract/new Yennefer appearance) is out now. On PC, at least.

You need to buy the armor. Go to white orchard. The merchant you saved from the griffin will sell it.
