Getting a failed quest and I don't know why. Hoping someone can give me an answer. It's a pretty early quest.
It's the Fake Papers quest, and the shady merchant's brother in law died when I tried to help him. Even if I don't tell the merchant, and just buy or AX sign him, I get quest failed.

what do you do at a place of hauntings? I already have the item
lamp thingy to see ghosts. I found a ghost, but I dont see anything to do.

The one I found outside of the story mission you use it in didn't have any interactivity either, nor any dialogue. I think they just... provide a little more character to the world? A little bit of flavour to a location?

hmmm alright. The one I found was kinda random. The ghost is just
a guy hitting the floor with a pickaxe. There was a cave behind him with designs in it. I guess it was just pointing me to that. But it already had a treasure icon over it as well.

Shielded guys are indeed annoying. Half the time mine glitch and just stand there blocking forever.

There is a block breaking slash in swordsmanship skill tree. Basically Geralt gets a SF4 focus attack. I use that and flamethrower igni to deal with shields and blocking enemies.

To anyone just starting, I recommend going death march difficulty. Very hard at first, but at lvl 23 I'm smashing everything in sight. Even guest 3-4 above me aren't too challenging.

I'm about to start the game and I'm unsure which difficulty to go for... any suggestions or advice around the difficulty?

Have you played previous witcher games and are decent at them? Medium or hard.

Never played one before? normal or easy

A beast? Very hard.

I was decent good at Witcher 1 and 2 and played on normal mainly because I wanted to get through the story with a bit of challenge but story took priority.

went back and watched some Witcher 2 footage after finishing the story and it's crazy how far CDPR has come in terms of character animation. Witcher 2 looks so stiff by comparison.

Thanks for the advice. Is progression on Deathmarch different to other difficulties, i.e. are you likely to be stronger later in the game playing on that difficulty? Are there any rewards that go with it?

I'm experiencing a lot of glitches now...everytime I kill enemies their dead bodies are standing up and frozen in mid air. Plus there is a noticeable spark on my sword everytime I swing it, which is odd. And on top of that, everytime I throw bombs it automatically explodes an inch away from me. Along with that, I'm eating stuck on the loading screen and the game crashes.

I'm Playing the X1 version, but it's becoming pretty unplayable at the current moment for me...and usually I'm able to forgive these kind of things.

I love that you can grow out your beard. It makes me realize how much I've been out hunting and doing sidequests. Every time I see it get pretty long, I'm like, "Hey, I should go back into the city and clean up a bit". Such a weird, cool feeling.

It seems stupid to me that you must have Axii in one of your ability slots in order to convince characters during conversations. Shouldn't that be a passive bonus?

I just found out that sweetfx doesn't implement the setting's AA to its printscreen output. I turned off in-game AA as I already have sweetfx AA from the setting. It works in-game but when I saw the screenshot, there's no AA. Weird.
I won't get this scene again until my next playthrough. :(

I guess I'm turning in-game AA from now on.

personally I hated it because I constantly meditate and I liked the trimmed full beard but didn't feel like constantly getting it shaved. So I opted to get a special facial hair instead so it never grew.

Maybe spoilers

Is there a new game plus? I just beat the game and got the worst ending possible. I wanna try again but don't want to put that much time into it :(

Yeah, I also think the trimmed beard looks the best, but it grows out so fast after that point, so I usually just say screw it and get a clean shave once Geralt's beard is fully grown.

LOL I totally did Lornruk backwards

I jumped the bridge and climbed over while the Wyvern got stuck in the wall. I looted everything all the way down and then went out the water at the bottom. Then I came back around and killed the Wyvern.

Triss and Yen spoiler question:

So I know there's the kind of bad, "troll" scene that you get if you try to romance both of them. I want to avoid that scene, but I was curious about something. Does it matter if I kiss Triss at the party? Or does that count as "romance" to the game? Or is it only romance if you have sex with her?

This is why, as I posted yesterday, everyone needs to make a manual save before completing the "Payback" quest. That's the closest you can get without screwing yourself out of something based on your decisions.

Wow, just completed a Secondary Quest and thought I knew where it was going but it goes into another direction and suddenly, I'm being made to complete it in an entirely new quest. Pretty amazing how they're connecting these quests together.

Also, I really love how when you meet a real piece of shit, you can do some pretty great things for vengeance.

It doesn't. I think that only opens up the opportunity to romance her later. You can kiss her at the party and just choose not to tell her you love her in a later quest.

62 hours later... still in Velen. Just when I think I've finished all side quests and can move onto Skellige, another quest pops up or I get distracted by more Gwent. Fuck I'm never finishing this game.

Ah good,
I was thinking of going back in my save actually since I kissed here there since it made sense to me. Thanks!

Shielded guys are indeed annoying. Half the time mine glitch and just stand there blocking forever.

They have a stamina bar under their health bar. use heavy strikes and aard. Drain their stamina. When it runs out they drop their shield. When I come up against them I just spam heavy strikes.

I have no idea what I just stumbled onto, and I dont know how I should prepare this spoiler tag. I guess this is a side quest? I honestly dont know...but I was walking around going to question marks and walked by a cave,
a voice started talking to me, so I went in. Some spirit is trapped in a tree(this actually looks familiar from one of the other games). This seems like a semi-big choice I have to make to free the spirit or not. Can anyone tell me what this is? name of sidequest maybe?

Just finished. Clocked in at 73 hours, skipping so many quests. Didn't even touch
The Nilfgaardian Camp in the South
. Even after so many hours, it's amazing that I feel like I barely even scratched the surface with the amount of content in the game.

My ending was
pretty positive
. Ciri
lives and chose the Path of a Witcher
. As for romance,
Chose to settle down in Kovir with Triss
. Nilfgaard
achieved total victory
.

I have a question though, can (ending spoiler again)
Geralt die
? There seems to be some leeway in these endings that makes it seem like anything is possible.

Amazing game. GOTY, RPG of the Decade. Bravo to CDPR for an amazing game. Gonna let this digest for a few days before I jump in and start a new playthrough.

I think it got lost in this fast moving thread but I have a question about Triss. If you convince her
to stay by romancing her
, where does she go after that? Is she in
Skellige
now, because I haven't gone there yet?

Also, when you go to
Skellige
does that mean you can't get back to
Velen
or
Novigrad
any more?

So far the side quests in Skellege have been even more amazing than the ones in Velen/Novigrad!

Spoilers!

The "Kingmaker" quest line with the Jarls son and daughter was amazing. Easily replace the Keira Metz storyline as my favorite quest in the game so far! I want more ice giants!

Lats night I got to the Nilfgaardian camp in Velen.

Both quests there were really depressing (esp. the mother looking for her son quest). And if that wasn't enough.. I met a Nilfgardian Soldier who didn't know if he should thank me or curse me for trying to help the girl we gave swallow to in White Orchard, who was apparently waiting to meet this Nilfgard soldier in the woods when the Griffin attacked. Thanks to the Swallow potion, she lives but in a vegetative state.

Its amazing how game does tell you the consequences of your decisions one way or another.

They could have easily released Skellige as an expansion 6 months from now, there is little main quest there in comparison and it's just its own viking adventure. But no, it's in the game from the start. So stupidly good. The game feels like old school RPGs in terms of content and in how you travel all over the world but all of that translated to modern detailed 3D world with stupid amount of voice acting.

Really fancy switching to a light armor + alchemy build from my medium armor + sign build. Anyone have any experience with the former build? Any fun?

She goes to
Kaer Mohren
.

You're still able to freely travel to other areas after you get there.
