Just finished the Broken Flowers quest. A fun conversation heavy quest with some unusual characters. Nothing's so straightforward with Dandelion. I'm actually doing main quests now that I've explored almost every ? in Velen. And hell even MORE sidequests open up as you progress the main story. I don't want this game to end.

Earlier in this thread I was surprised when some dude had over 4000 crowns and was still in Velen, since you usually have so little money in this game. Well, now I understand -- I'm close to 5000 and also still in Velen. Some of the monster contracts really pay off, but I think what's given me some of the most money is all the swords I've been selling. 300 - 400 for relic-typed swords, and I'm sure they'll only get more rare and expensive as I continue.

where are you selling things for good money? I always get shit on at vendors. 25% of worth if I'm lucky.

60 hours played and I just realized there were two other currencies that have to be converted to be usable. Got over three grand in an instant. And I purged myself of all the books I was carrying. The usable items inventory was just unmanageable with all of them in there.

The inventory is awful. And the books can be sold/discarded after they're read. Anything important is added to your quest log. Plus there's no "home" or anything to put them in like Skyrim so unless you like scrolling through 100s of books to get to an item, there's not much point in keeping them.

Holy shit, I picked up that book but never read it.

I freed it, too, but I'm certain it's going to come back in on another side quest or something. It was just too unique.

Also where are the
orphans?
I've got no idea what you're referring to there, and I'm 15-20 hours past that mission!

The orphans are
at the school you visit while hunting down Dandelion's old girlfriends. The class the teacher is teaching are the orphans. There's a list of their names on her desk.

Anyone got a guide for the barber locations?

One was in a small city to the southeast of Novigrad,
I discovered another in Novigrad -- but all he did was fuck up my shit, no matter what option I seemed to pick, pretty hilarious, actually -- but inconvenient.
I assume there are plenty more out there, I just haven't come across them.

Oh, and secondly; are there cuts specific to each barber? Or are they all generally the same selection. It's hard to remember when they're designed as text, rather than pictures (however I do like the text implementation).

I'd be happy if they just developed a few expansions instead. Old school sized expansions.
They are doing exactly that.
They are doing two expansions but we don't know if they'll be "old school sized." What I read was that there would be one in August and one early next year and they were both about ten hours long. For most games that's a big chunk of content but I'm worried that ten hours of W3 content is gonna fell like "that's it?" Still, hard to complain about more of this game. And hopefully they'll come with more enhancements, given CDPR's great track record of supporting and enhancing these games after launch.

I feel like the counter for how long you played on my ps4 is wrong. It says I have around 80 hours played but I know I havent played that long. When I left it on standby overnight I think the counter jumped. Anyone else having this problem?
Yep, it counts standby time. That's working as intended, apparently. Have seen it confirmed but no mention of it changing.

*was wondering - does anyone know where to find / how to unlock a mastercraft armorer now? i've looted some great recipes but haven't found the quote/unquote "mastercraft" armorer yet.

much obliged in advance for your help!

[ed: playing on PC, not that it matters]
Not sure if this got answered, but there's an armorer in the Bloody Baron's camp that gives you a quest that will set you on your way.

Wonder how many there are.

Snatch

Fight Club

Here's a few more (by no means complete, there are a bunch I know I'm forgetting and I'm only level 14):
  • The name of the Master Weaponsmith is
    Hattori, a Kill Bill reference
  • While doing the scavenger hunt to find the first set of diagrams for Griffon school gear you find
the diary of a Witcher named George who killed a dragon, very likely a reference to the Christian saint George
  • During the Defender of the Faith quest you come across
some scholars destroying religious statues and one of them spouts off a bunch of anti-religion rhetoric, including the famous Karl Marx "religion is the opium of the masses" quote
  • In the basement/dungeon of the Bloody Baron's estate
two guards do the "bring out the gimp" dialogue from Pulp Fiction
  • Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the quest but there's a small side quest in Velen where you come across two guys at an altar praying to a god they've upset
which turns out to be an ogre or something living in the basement below them. There's a Book of Exodus reference as the locals think he's a god because he once accidentally started a fire which spread to a bush above and a peasant saw the burning bush and heard the ogre yelling and thought the burning bush was talking to him.
  • There's a trophy/cheevo for learning a bunch of alchemy recipes called
Let's Cook, a Breaking Bad reference

And once again I have to say that alt Axii is way overpowered. Just cleared the Lv. 24 quest for the weapon smith with Lv. 9. One guy killed all the rest and then I just kept him under my control while I wailed on him for two minutes straight. Lmao

Hattori is such a pussy, though.

Yep, there's a bit more, though it's not really in any way connected to the choice you make, just a bit of extra lore.

They are in a
school
in the outskirts of Novigrad.

Also don't believe everything you read in a book you found in a swamp.

I shouldn't have asked about this, haha. It's spoilers for me. Albeit minor ones. I assumed they would be near where the Crones quest finished or something.

Just finished Witcher 3. Level 35, 90 hours. Any tagged spoilers assume knowledge of the entire game, so don't click on them if you don't want to.

I did a lot of side stuff, but obviously there's a lot more to do. So many question marks remaining on the map. This game is huge!

It's an important game, in the sense that GTA 3 and Morrowind are important milestones is gaming history. I don't envy Bethesda's position, seeing as Fallout 4 has to follow W3.

The game reflects great strides in terms of world realization and storytelling (both linear and otherwise). The new gold standard. Way to fucking nail it, CDPR.

My ending details

Empress Ciri
Triss and Geralt settle down
Free Temeria
Queen Cerys
Dead Baron

I didn't consult guides for my decisions, just did what felt right to me, and I'm happy with the results. I've since googled the endings, and I can see how Witcher Ciri might be the "true" or "canon" ending, but that's just not how things played out for me.

Now for deathmarch, which will be a far more leisurely affair, with a focus on Gwent and POI exploration. Onward!

I sided with the Crones. I feel dirty........

In some ways it's the better option. It's all lesser and greater evils in this game, remember. All shades of grey. A lot of the time what you think is the 'right' thing has a horrible ending, so if you feel dirty, that might be the best option :p

How does this work? I've barely used Axii, even though it was a favourite of mine in TW2.

Just tap the Sign button at the enemy in choice? Or hold to turn him to your side?

Doesn't it take quite a while to kick in? In TW2 it was barely a viable option because it took so long to turn one person.

There is one more barber in Novigrad, who isn't a drunkard. You can find him in the Gildorf district of the city (Kinda north / central, not too far from one of the notice boards). No specific cuts, everyone has the same set from the DLC.

Not sure about Skellige, but those are the only three on the mainland as far as I know.

Heh that's true, especially after reading a certain book... it made me realise. But they are just
pitiful disgusting creatures, like Lisa Trevor's less shy and more horrid cousins. Do you know if we get to deal with them later in the game?

I don't like how often I have found an armor / weapon recipe from an early quest or area just to see it be for Lv 13-20+

One of my first found recipes ended up being for lv 33. Yeah, I'll be able to wear that sometime near Christmas. So exciting

Roughly 70 hours in. Spent 35 hours in WO.

How

Back at the beginning of OT1, quite a lot of hardcore fans and RPG players were talking about how they were literally spending 30-60 minutes just taking in the scenery and being immersed. I'm assuming they also walked everywhere and explored every inch (literally every inch) of available countryside.

I can see how this could happen, especially on souped Ultra on PC.

Still, 35 hours is ridiculous. Maybe that would drag you to 20 at a stretch.
Might be the guy was going by the games broken timer counter, but he's a PC player, so that's unlikely. AFAIK the timer's only busted on PS4.

I sure hope so, buddy. I sure hope so.

I haven't heard anything about them yet, and I'm almost at the end of Act 1 in main story.

My stash of stuff is at Reardon Manor, so I often traipse past the bog, and the music kicks in, and I have very contemptuous thoughts about them.

So i know people complain about the combat. But the more i play, the more satisfied i am with it. Last night i took on 2 wyverns and then 1 royal wyvern. It was an epic fight. Then a giant basilisk came and annihilated me. haha

Loving every second of it.

Dunno where to check my time played on ps4.

I agree, I'm getting more and more used to it and I think it looks awesome. Especially going 1 on 1.

I think you were supposed to be holding the button for the entire animation of Geralt waving his hand around to turn enemies to your side. However it is possible to just hold the button for like 0.5s for the same effect without using up any stamina, making alt Axii WAAAAY overpowered. I think this is a bug, no way that this is intentional.

What difficulty?
2/5, same as the rest of my playthrough.

Anybody want this game on PC? I have a code from the Nvidia promotion and I already have it so I'd rather just give it away for free for someone interested in the game :)

Anyone got any good reliable locations for monster hair?

you should first go to an armor or weaponsmith and scroll through what all your igrediants can break down in, often things like nekker eyes can be broken down into monster eyes. so if you have anything hair or fur from a beast, it might break down to monster hair.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Am i insane for thinking of starting a dead march playthrough with light armor combat/alch build?

I'm 45 hours in on Death March and have yet to dump a single stat point into anything, wearing all light armor currently. I actually just keep forgetting to dump points when I load up my game, sitting on 15 or so ready to spend but the game has been very manageable regardless(partly undecided on my build since I pretty much utilize everything). A consistent challenge that hasn't really plateaued yet which is the highest praise I can give to the balance.

I imagine that anyone complaining about the combat system is approaching fights a lot messier and less intelligently than I have.

The one in October is supposed to be 10+ hours and focuses on Oxenfurt so it's probably using a lot of existing assets.

However the one for next year is supposed to be 20+ hours long (ie Witcher 2 sized) and takes place in an entirely new area of the world (Toussaint).

And CDPR, if anything, low-balled their content estimates on Witcher 3 so I am more than inclined to believe the above numbers. 30+ hours of new content would definitely be old school expansion worthy.

I know this is off-topic but I'd rather not devote a whole new thread to it. Basically, I'm playing The Witcher 2 after a long absence. I noticed I don't have a silver sword, which means I likely sold it and forgot (I last played the game 4 years ago). I'm on chapter 1, in Floatsam.

1. Is there somewhere I can buy a silver sword? None of the shops have it.
2. Is there a place I can mine silver ore to craft a silver sword?

Again, sorry for the derail. Its just that my lack of a silver sword has made the game quite difficult. I'm itching to beat 2 so I can buy 3.
