The pre-rendered cutscene at the start essentially explained a bit about the world and your character, and very little about the game's story itself. In that cutscene, it shows Geralt, the main character, who is a mercenary monster slayer who was mutated as a child to be the ultimate killing machine. Essentially he's been trained since youth to be a master swordsman, be immune to poisons, etc. In that cutscene he's taken on a mission/quest to free a princess from a curse -- she was turned into a horrible monster because of her father's incestuous relationship. Geralt has to spend one whole night with the monster to lift the curse -- that's why he doesn't kill her and sleeps in her sarcophagus.boco77 said:it didnt make any sense to me

Can you describe the artbook at all, and if it's worth paying the extra for the collectors edition? I've not really got any interest in the soundtrack cd, but apparently the artbook is 200 pages long........and I'm wondering if the quality and content of it is worth the extra?eXistor said:I went out and got the collector's edition and I'm just flat-out loving it.

Is this like Vampire: Bloodlines where it starts off really quick, and once you start making lots of changes to the world/inventory, it slows to an absolute crawl? Cause I didn't finish the game for that reason. Or is it uniform throughout the game and dependent on your rig?
Abso-fucking-lutely!eXistor said:In all my years of countless Jrpg's, i've grown tired of the genre with only a few titles really being worthwhile (FFXII, DQVIII) I've recently started playing Blue Dragon which bored me to tears after a few hours of non sensical clichéd poppycock.
Tom Penny said:I played the demo and actually purchased the game yesterday. The initial loading of the game when you boot up is the same but after that it is muched improved from at least the demo version. When I'd go in a house and then leave in the demo version it would load for like 10-15 seconds. I would say now it's under 5 Save times are now very fast ( well I use quicksave). Game is great so far. Oddly enough when I loaded the game onto my computer it somehow had my old demo saves so I didn't have to do the whole 1st chapter again, it Saved me an hour

Nope, use the inn storage.Naeblish said:Does your inventory ever get bigger? I'm having a hard time managing all my stuff, in other words, being forced to throw away a lot of items.
boco77 said:So like does this game get better? Got outta the intro in the castle and the game just starts in this gloomy murky field with a small village and its raining..dull stuff?
Also I havent got a clue what the heck is even happening in the story as they just set off and leave the castle without really telling you what for? Some bad mage dude attacks the castle but thats about all I remember. And what are you? A vampire? you just awoke from some slumber?

Is anyone else stuck in the same situation as I am? Anyone know when 1.3 is set to debut?
tasteomycheese said:No luck. Tried a bunch of different video drivers as well.
Sucks, I really wanted to play too.
Ark-AMN said:I guess I'm glad that I don't have Vista since I haven't gotten any crashes during my gameplay.
And Patch 1.2 really has improved loading and saving times. I remember before, I was kind of discourages to enter houses because of how long it took to load up and then especially to load back the larger environment outside. Thankfully, the times have really been improved with this patch. It's still kind of slow when loading up a large area, but that is at least understandable.
And yeah, my framerate has also improved, with a whole lot less stuttering as it used to.

Sylar said:This game loves to crash about every hour on the fucking dot. It's weird. It's always before a cutscene so luckily it saves. :lol
ArtG said:Yeah, it crashed on me about three times in five hours last night. At least the save system is pretty solid, so no of the crashes has resulted in me losing more than a minute or two of progress.
I am on the stupidthe Beast boss fight, I've read some strategies both here on GAF and elsewhere, so I'll probably have to use one of my previous saves in order to get that spell that apparently one hits the damn thing. I'll lose some progress, but nothing before that boss fight was challenging, so whatever. Just need to grind, level, get my new spell and play more of this awesome game!
BiasedGamer said:Here's a screen from the first game based on Sapkowski's books:
-the screen is from Secret Service (Polish magazine, issue 51, November 1997)
-it was being developed by Metropolis Software and was supposed to come out in 1998
-the game was described as **** Raider with RPG elements
I'm glad it got cancelled, because I don't think it would be as good as CD Projekt's game.
