Wow, that's fast. What level are you ? The game normally takes 60 hours to get all the main quests and important side quests done.

Based on how quickly you're burning through the game, I'd say 6 hours, give or take a couple.
Wow, really?

I've been doing most quests I've come across. Only ones I've missed are a few where I didn't finish.

I thought I was going rather slow. Heh.

So I resorted to checking guides, and apparently I need to find all 10 of those things for the tower to move on, but one I need is with a golem I can only summon with a lightning rod, yet I can't get said lightning rod without Kalstein suggesting it to me. I'm about ready to give up on this glitch ridden mess! Ugh.

Quoting for the new page because I really want to move forward and nothing is working.

Since you have already checked the guide, I'm going to spoil a little side quest to know your exact situation. Maybe this might help -
Did you get the quest from the gravedigger in front of the cemetery to head into the crypts ? If you did, you should fully explore the crypts (blast loose walls with Aard). You should find someone in there that will turn the entire investigation on its head. I can be more specific if needed.

same thing-ish happened to me. he's mad because you accused him wrongfully. Go to the graveyard and find Raymond Maarlowes body and tell him who the real killer was. Then he'll be fine. Then he will help again.

I noticed something wrong during cutscenes... some kind of glitch? I'm not sure... just look around her neck and shoulders, there seem to be a bunch of lines, which are very apparent when its moving... any way to get rid of that?

Thanks for the help, though I got through it and couldn't for the life of me get into the
graveyard unfortunately. I didn't realize I needed to get a Tarot card in the swamp in order to make the rob, once I had that everything else unlocked.
Thank you though.

A few quick questions concerning gameplay:

1. How do you give other characters items? I'm only in the first chapter, but when I was escorting a character they took damage. I know my items in my inventory say you can give them to others, but I have no clue how to do it. Is it only for special cases? I still escorted them safely.

2. I know most people said that the fist fighting is confusing, but how in the world does it work? Does clicking stop your current punch cycle thing? I won my first fight, but I have no idea what's going on.

3. Where is the best place to sell extra items I have picked up?

Thanks!

1. It's only special cases.
2. Block by holding down RB until he attacks, then LB until he's down. Repeat.
3. Later on there will be appropriate vendors to sell to consistently.

End of Chapter 4 spoilers

Arg. The Scoi'Tel are dickholes, but I agree with their reason to fight... just... they seem like dicks. I don't want them slaughtered, but I don't want to abandon them. It'd be so much easier to just grab Alvin and go but... I don't know... Order seem like racist dicks, Scoia seem like whiny dicks... maybe they both should die?

What to do what to do?

I'll just take alvin and leave them. I agree with their plight, but the whole hostage taking/bank robbing thing isn't right. If something happens, so be it

I think I'm remembering why I never finished it. Game is crashing a bit more now. I had normally one every few hours. Now it's almost like every hour.

Anyways, I recently acquired this sword. Any reason to keep my basic Witcher one?

Have you deleted the saves from the earlier chapters ? That might fix the crashing.

deleted everyone but the one I'm using.

I'm looking into the save folder now, why are some of them folders instead of whatever the hell type of file they are?

Run in 16:9 resolutions, or sometimes setting lighting to the lowest works.

I get that same problem, it seemed to me that the more intricate parts of the body (in terms of animation I mean, I notice it most around the mouth) are lower resolution. Not a killer by any means.

I have to say I'm surprised at all the talk of instability. I'm 16 hours in (chapter II) and I haven't had a single problem. :/

Thanks, Schmattakopf!

I have one two last questions.

1. Are there any real consequences for time passing? I know that people aren't always at places, available, and what have you at certain times of day, but I mean more like will I miss out on quest opportunities if I let time go by?
This is probably a result of playing Majora's Mask, but I don't want to miss out on quests or other things simply because I decided to go exploring or something.

2. Is there any point to the sex cards? Does this affect the game in any way, or is this simply collecting cards like I'm currently believing?

I brought the enhanced edition years back and have just been trying to install it today. Installation always halts at the same point, installing from data4.cab. I've done a little reading into it (doesn't help the official forums are down) and it seems I have a faulty disc. I have the CD key in the case but no proof of purchase (receipt), am I out of luck? Any way I could obtain the file I'm missing online and replace it on the hard disc?

Blehhhh >:

If it's still only $5, just buy it from GOG and save the hassle. I was in a similar boat, I found my CDs but couldn't find my key. Digital version is much easier anyways. :)

I'm in Chapter 1, just about to face Salamander. I still haven't picked up a...Iron (or Steel, can't remember) Sword. I don't have the sword for monsters. Am I just supposed to buy one, or I'll get one later?

You'll get it soon. Word of advice - make sure you take the talent in the Aard tree that causes stun. You're going to be needing it very soon.

Picked that up awhile ago. Very useful.

Whoo, just finished Act 1 last night.

That final boss was kind of a bitch given that you aren't given a decent opportunity to prepare for the fight(long cutscene->being surrounded and murdered). Took about 6-7 attempts before I feel like I lucked out with an Aard stun and insta-kill (which all told felt REAL cheap when it happened and not satisfying). Even quaffing a few buff potions each time at the start of battle couldn't prevent the boss' constant stun-lock ability that leaves you susceptible for several seconds, and when you have several minions surrounding you ticking off damage also...well fuck that shit. A real sour point in the chapter given how easy everything else was(even the two optional trophy fights).

Moving on and loving the game. Even got a custom Pinnacle driver profile to play this game with a 360 gamepad and it works amazingly well. Most notably it feels -much- better trucking around the environment holding the analog stick than it does holding the W key.

I think I might've hit a bug :/. And I've got no saves beforehand.

I took the blizzard potion before saving Shani from the thugs. It slowed everything down and put a blue shimmer around Geralt. I didn't know what it did before taking it, so I took it aways outside the inn, then it made walking there really slow. Okay, get there, cutscene normal speed, fight in slowmo mode, win, finish, get out of the inn.

Still in slomo, so I took the Honey potion, the one that clears out all effects (and removed the from under my medalion. But, Geralt is still moving really slow.

Edit: The rain looks so too. But menu movement and camera movement is regular speed.

I installed this game in my lap... and it doesn't run well (u_u). It is a shame because the game is great. I just only did the first "mission".

Well, let's see if I can continue playing as it is or I wait to buy a new rig.

I have a question for the combat aficionados:

How much should I be moving around during combat? I find the movement controls to be extremely hokey and once I get into a fight, I mostly just focus on hitting enemies. (I'm only 1 hour in). Should I moving more, trying to flank? (and I can't even imagine trying to circle strafe).

Damn, The Beast fight is hard as fuck. First real hard fight I've run into. Any tips?

Wrote about it a couple posts up, but yea it's a lame fight given how it forces itself upon you so quickly.

Swallow Potion ASAP. Then any useful buffs, like Blizzard, or whetstones for your sword. Everything is susceptible to Fast style, but you probably should focus on group style with the other pups around(until beast is alone). Genuinely I magically beat it with a successful Aard stun on the Beast(with an instant sword kill). Though it is a very low-chance of that happening.

It's a cheap fight, mostly because of the lack of proper prep, and the beast can stun lock you regularly AND the arena is filled with fire spots that take incredible burn damage from Geralt. Just keep spamming Aard on the beast, getting rid of minions, and you may get lucky with an insta-kill. At the very least Aard will keep him at bay long enough to clear out the pups.

Also Abigail will regularly get knocked out, but will spawn up again to help if you survive long enough. Very helpful as she takes the beast's attention away from you for a bit.

Not a big deal, at least for the entirety of Act 1. (Witcher 2 on the other hand...)

Just focus on the combo meter and get in enemy faces. Even your spells in the early game require being somewhat close to work. If anything surrounds you, then go group style to hit everything in a 360 arc. But yea, don't get worried about positioning.

I recommend reading the bestiary regularly in your journal as they are updated. Even getting in the habit of pausing and checking out the enemy you are about to face for a refresher is a nice tactic. The journal entry tells you exactly what to use in most cases(sword style, spell type, etc...)

I think I just got to the mid point in chapter 3.
Took out the final Salamander Base, discovers Vicent is a Bro-Wolf, King from another kingdom backing them, and so forth. All my current quests were stuck on this too.

Hahaha. The game is smart. I went neutral.
My justification being both sides seemed like dicks, even if I agree with one I can't support their methods. And one of those narrated paintings came up basically saying exactly what I felt. I can't fight for ideals that are spawned from hatred. It's not that I don't want to get involved. It's that I don't want to get involved with people who go about things in a manner I am not at all cool with.

I've been playing this game a ton over the past two days in preparation for my play-through of the sequel. The game is awesome and I regret not having played it sooner. Story and RPG elements are top notch, the combat isn't half bad, and the visuals are surprisingly decent considering when it was made. I'm currently somewhere near the start of Chapter 3,
I've just been told to go after the two salamandra bases
. I have a question though, did I make the
'right' decision by
giving Alvin to Triss instead of Shani?
, and by 'right' I mean can someone tell me what impact it will have on the Witcher 2 as long as it isn't too spoilery?

Quick question:

I'm just about to start my first play-through. Is either mouse and keyboard or mouse only combat superior to the other?

I've yet to have trouble with this game... but

ch5 spoilers

the catacombs under the old manor are giving me a shit ton. And I'm in a shit situation. It's too dark to see and I have no Cat or the ingredients to make cat. Fuck. This fucking sucks. It seems like my health is just draining away and there's too much to deal with. Every fight I barely make it out of and then I either need to use a bunch of potions and fill my toxic meter or use food and sit around and wait a ton. what a shitheap. Out of nowhere too. I just want to finish the game and play #2. fuuuuuuck.

Where's that inf. health/energy mod? lool

EDIT:

YEEEAAAH

SO glad I decided to cheat.

I thought I was frustrated before?

I have done a couple of more quests in Chapter 4 than him, and I haven´t reached 27 hours yet. I have done most quests, but figured out quite early that I didn´t have to fight that many enemies in the svamp, and haven´t any dice playing or bar fights.

Chapter 4 is a dissapointment so far,
have defeated Dagon and tried to make Alina dissapear by showing her reflection in her old mirror
. Bland enviroments, quests that doesn´t feel relevant to the storyline and quite boring characters.

Woop just got my raven armor in ch5.

Not really digging the chapter much otherwise, seems really linear and its
yet another swamp

How close am I to the ending? Just about to go to
the manor.

I've had this a while and decided to finally start playing it again so I can get the Witcher 2 and I have a problem.

Some NPCs had one of their fingers stretch reeeeeeeeeeeally far straight down and this one green lady has a similar problem, except with her boobs. Looks like she has reeeeeeally saggy boobs. It's not affecting gameplay but it is annoying, especially as my google-fu has failed me and the only hits lead to The Witcher site saying the page is not available (it seems to have been on their official forums or something).
Anyone know how to fix this? I have The Witcher Directors Cut Enhanced Edition (or whatever) on Steam playing on a GTX285 on 64bit Win7 with everything up to date (game, drivers, Windows, Steam)

EDIT: I also have the same problem as Bisnic. Not too much annoyance except when playing in 3D.

Does anyone have a working link to the "Stuff that makes Geralt's life easier" mod?

Whenever I google it and click a link, it brings me to the official Witcher forums but apparently they are still down, because it just takes me to a page that asks if I want to download the 1.5 patch.

I actually liked Chapter 4 for its shift into what seemed like an idyllic rural life, only for it all to crumble away while accompanied by the most tranquil tunes in the background. It made for a nice change of pace after the political developments that escalate at the end of Chapter 3. To me, it felt like Chapter 4's focus was to bring closure to a few important quests that carried over from chapter 1, and more than a few decisions taken here factor into the ending - one in an incredibly well-done way. I can't say anymore since I don't want to spoil things, but I'd suggest keeping at it. If there is one criticism I have about the chapter, it's that there is far too much running around, even in comparison to the earlier ones.

You're about to set into motion the events that lead to the ending. Make sure that you've taken care of everything, and that included preparing potions that prevent bleeding and knockdown.

the choices seems to be made so that there's no good decision, only bad decision. no matter what choice you pick, there'll be bad consequence to both action, and the game keep reminding you or at least try to make you feel like you've chosen the wrong action.

Do enhanced stat abilities stack? e.g. If I get Bleeding I and Bleeding II, if B1 adds 15% bleeding and B2 adds 20% bleeding would there be any point in buying B1?

If I remember correctly, the second bleeding is for the second combo chain. The first combo sequence will have a 15% chance of causing bleeding, and the second should have 20%.

Correct me GAF if im wrong, but i think stuff like Bleeding I only affect your attack done with the first click, while Bleeding II only affects your attacks made with a second click.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
Finally finished last night. Fantastic game!

It's been hard trying to finish this one since I already have W2 installed and I'm dying to play it but I really didn't want to do the second one without finishing the first one.

Still had to do every side quest though lol

Now on to Witcher 2!

Any tips on beating The Beast? Abigail dies pretty quick, but I focused on saving her in my last few attempts, in hope that she would keep healing me, but she just stands there and doesn't do anything and I die pretty quick, especially with the knockdowns.

Aard stun should allow a one-hit kill. Otherwise i'd think swallow/blizzard might be a decent route.

You need Aard 1 to get Aard 2 and Aard 2 is more powerful. The things above it are for when you charge the spell.

Just bought the game again from GOG mainly for all the extras(which are great btw. totally worth spending 3,50€). I guess i should as well play the game again, maybe this time with a guide that came as an extra so that play-through wouldn't take bloody 60-70 hours again :)

Hopefully it still holds up after playing the sequel...
