Y'know, what this game really needs is some sort of spoiler-free identifier for a panel so people can immediately know if they should read on!

The praise Jeff gives the game is so great because his standards are high/weird. I'm really happy to hear he loves it even being colorblind.

I'm colorblind and as I was playing last night I said, God I sure hope theres no colored puzzles, and then Jeff said the thing about colored puzzles and I said fuck. I REALLY wish games would stop doing that shit. I know its a small percentage of people but damn, its infuriating to have to call in my fiance to comes solve a puzzle with me and tell me colors. THE WORST

I still don't get the tetris puzzles even after doing like 20 of them. I'm such an idiot.

I am having a particular problem with this one here.

The idea of
rotating shapes to combine them into one block
obviously does not work:

Not rotating the shapes and letting the right shape "overflow" the boundaries of the panel
does not work either:

Attempts to
create a composite shape without rotating and to not include one of the Tetris blocks does not work either

I have not found a way to
create a composite shape that includes the Tetris blocks and reproduces their combined shapes without rotating
yet. That would probably be the solution, but I don't see how to do that. I am probably just blind.

Colorblind options should really be standard by now.

Seems it would not be that hard to implement.

The only thing that has absolutely stumped me so far was the red paneled tetris block puzzles in the swamp area. I theoretically know what all the symbols mean, but it feels like I'm missing something because I'm running into the same problem on two separate panels.

the "tetris" piece isn't slightly rotated you can't rotate it.

Also the shape must contain the "tetris" square.

Also if both are contained in a single shape doen't matther where the "tetris" is if ti's contained

"WiFi issues? Have you considered looking at it from another angle or simply taking a break?"

"The best thing I can suggest is to walk away from your computer for a few minutes, maybe grab a glass of water and hope the WiFi just clicks when you get back."

I give up on the 3rd hedge maze, I have no idea what it is looking for, the other 2 we're easy enough.

Turn on the game sound
and then
listen to the sound of your foot steps.

You've basically worked out the rules by elimination.
you can't rotate those ones, you have to have the pieces inside the shape

And just when I thought I understood the spiky shapes..

when this game it clicks it clicks. I really cannot imagine myself cheating in any way. I'd rather leave it unfinished than look up the solutions. I like that it's really true when they say you may spend a bunch of time in a puzzle, but when it clicks you open yourself more to thinking outside the box.

Yeah, sadly he just tweeted that he needed someone to look at a puzzle for him in order to tell him the colors on the screen.

So if you're colorblind it may help to know that I just had to ask for some help identifying some colors in a section of The Witness.
https://twitter.com/jeffgerstmann/status/692237679984037889

Finished the section without asking for straight-up solutions, but yeah, couldn't see some of that stuff the way I needed to.

Yeah, I just colorized the only possible shape on top of a screenshot, and then the line became clear: http://i.imgur.com/MGJNduA.png I was too blind to see that using imagination alone.

I am completely lost coming to the "Sun Temple" in the desert. I just need someone to point me to the hint at finding solution to
those "wheel"-like puzzles, I cannot even understand how to do the first one. I climbed on top of the structure, tried to analyze the broken sunbeam mosaic, the symbol in those "manhole" covers, but I simply cannot progress at all.
Any help is truly appreciated, just a hint or a pointer towards the direction I need to go to.

Ugh lol....

I have to play with sound low cause of kids sleeping lol

If you're playing on PS4 (or a laptop for that matter), I'd suggest using something like Apple Earbuds with the sound turned up. Since most things are quiet in the game, you'll still hear your kids stirring, but it'll give you enough sound to hear when audio clues come into play!

This is what I do when I'm playing games up in my loft and my wife asks me to not use the surround sound but still may want to chat (i.e. yell back and forth over the loft wall) a little.

Subtle hint:
you need to reflect on your predicament.

Listening to bombcast now. Haven't heard Jeff this enamored with a game in a long time. Sounds like this is the most elegant puzzle game ever. Back log is crazy now, but I'm looking forward to playing it one day.

I like how the panels in the
tree house for a bridge.
Just found that pretty cool for some reason.
You don't even have to solve the last panel to progress!

Played a few hours last night, 155 puzzles clear and 2 lasers. Can't stop thinking about it at work now

Loving this game. Hate that I have a 12 hour day of work today. Ugh.

When Myst came out I used to sit at the computer with my dad and play. This gives me serious nostalgia. Especially the
theater with the videos
.

Was pretty tired last night so was a little slow. Still knocked out quite a few puzzles. Can't wait to really jump into this.

I'm going to steer clear of this thread and do my thing- only thing I want to know is: Once I've reached the normal ending, am I still free to finish other puzzles I missed? I see some reviewers talking about starting over and replaying the game (why?) and wasn't sure why that was a thing unless the game had locked them out of some puzzles.

I'm actually stuck in an elevator... will try to work it on my own...

~190 puzzles so far... only two were brute forced...

SOLVED. moving on

I've solved quite a few panels of a certain type (
the somewhat tetris alike puzzles where you have to trace shapes, especially in the swamp
) without trial and error and yet i'm still not 100% sure how they work. My reasoning has worked so far but i'm not convinced it is 100% correct... And i'm stuck there at the moment.

Anyhow, it's going to take a long time to finish this game. I'll try to solve them all myself, no matter how long it takes.

I'm enjoying the game a lot.

is anybody listening to music while they play this? Played for ~4hrs last night basically in silence and I actually liked it a lot, but I'm wondering if there's any music that would make a good compliment to the game.

I'm very cheap. I haven't purchased a game over $20 at full price in a few years, but I couldn't wait on this one. And that feels like the right decision. I'm only a couple of hours in, but The Witness feels extraordinary.

I feel like I should buy this, but games like this are a catch 22. They're all about discovering the "way to do things" but if you get stuck you either stop playing, or you look up how to do it which spoils the game anyway. Not sure if I should get it.

Luckily there are tons of places to go so if you get stuck there's more content to go through.

How do you tell how many puzzles you have completed? Is there a counter somewhere? I didn't see anything in the options. Also does the game auto save after every puzzle? If not then I have a lot of progress to redo tonight.

1) You can check your progress on the "load" screen.
2) It autosaves every few seconds.

Don´t do that.
The game audio is important.

It's very hard to get "stuck" in The Witness. If something doesn't make sense, you can just wander off in a different direction for an hour or two and stumble over dozens of other things you've never seen before. By the time you wander back to whatever was taxing you, you've learned new ways of thinking about it that will help you solve it.

I get what you are saying but for me this is not the case at all. The discovering is not that hard to do and once you do it you always kinda know how to solve the puzzle, it actually figuring it out where the fun is.

If you do get the game I would advise you to never look up the solutions because then what would be the point of the game. It's not that hard and when things click it feels cools and make you wanna playl some more.

This work day is going to be torture.

Tell me about it. I'm half way through my day and I can't stop thinking about some of the puzzles already! I only got to put just over an hour into it last night due to the AMD shadow bug :(

I may also not be coping too well due to a case of the man flu kicking in and a rather busy day. Bring on this evening!

Help in the
Treehouse. On one of the bridge panels there is a single black starburst shape. However, the rule that I've gathered is that you need two to go together. So I've tried looking from different angles and whatnot, but can't seem to figure it out, so any hint would be appreciated.

Yeah, tetris puzzles are definitely my weak point so far. Each feels like a huge struggle. I have a lot of trouble wrapping my head around the various possibilities.

hey guys, I need some help with a tiny puzzle. I'm pretty sure it's something that I'm meant to be able to solve easily, I just don't see it for some reason. Here it is in multiple spoiler tags so you can decide not to reveal the rest if you're not that far yet:

In the tree 'temple'
there's a door that leads to the bamboo forest
I think that door is just meant to be a convenient shortcut once you've gained access to both areas, which I have, so I don't *need* it open... but it would make travelling easier if it was. How do I open it though? I don't see anything that can help narrow down the correct 'path'...

If you think I just lack some information and will be able to solve it later on, please just tell me that and not the actual solution! Cheers :)

Anyone?
