Is there anything you can't parry?

I don't know

I would have said horizontal moves like the turtles lava burst, but I've even been able to parry missiles and other projectiles falling from directly overhead

It's hard to judge what you can't and what's user error. So right now I'm just assuming everything is fair game like it was in Bayonetta

Ah okay, I haven't really tested it much so I wasn't sure if you knew or not. I know you can parry the spike traps that make them pop up beneath you. I keep forgetting I have the parry because there's already the Guts ability lol

Discovered an interesting glitch, not really useful at all but try it out, it's funny!

I call it the Blunder-Cyclone, basically morph into a small gun (not the super scope) and do a stinger. Keep mashing the A button to extend the stinger shots and then at the same time rotate the left stick to buffer in a cyclone. Just keep mashing A and keep rotating the stick, the cyclone will come out but your gun will be flipping out firing and twisting all over the place. Definitely looks funny.

It seems that it's where you have the Custom Block equipped, you can tap the control stick towards the enemy's attacks. I'd seen it, but I didn't trust myself to be able to actually perform it, so I never bought it. Also, money.

You should play with some more.

While guts is pretty vital starting out and still ends up being the most reliable defense vs certain attacks/enemies, it's probably your weakest defensive option once you have everything.(Between that, Hero Counter, Hero Time and Hero Sense)

but yeah I still find myself using guts on reaction to something that catches me off guard. Even if it's something I know Guts doesn't work on.

How2Parry?

Seriously, tons of mechanics people don't even know about after 3/4 of the game? My kind of game.

More like 1/3 through my second playthrough. I didn't even know this existed. Please, Retro. Enlighten us.

It's the Custom Block called Hero Counter.

It's pretty much the only one I always have equipped along with Ukemi.

Practice. I've been pretty much trying to use it exclusively as my defensive option on my current playthrough to become more and more proficient with it.

It's extremely satisfying when you do it right as it creates a large morph when you do it successfully to counter attack instantly. Absolutely love it vs the final boss where you have so many units and can make such large morphs.

Also, money.

Credit Cards are an awesome mechanic and they better be in Bayonetta 2!!

How useful are the Hero Time and Hero Counter items? I'm terrible at feeling out the worth of things like these. -_-

Hero Counter is probably my favorite in the game alongside Ukemi and Unite Charge

Hero Time, Hero Sense, Energy Converter and Dodge Mine are also all really good, but I feel they're alot more situational than the above 3.(I may put Energy Converter in the upper tier though)

Speed Charge is also really good early game, but I feel it's alot less useful as you get better abilities and much more effective tactics for building meter.

The rest of the items are noob traps though, and should only be purchased for completion I think.(Maybe Double Power might have some situational uses tho)

This is just my opinion right now btw. I'm still learning alot about the game every single time I boot it up. Who knows what I or someone else could find out about any of these items tomorrow.

That is fucking bullshit.

No. Fuck it. I'm not doing it. I don't hate myself nearly that much. It's not fucking worth it. Luka's a little bitch anyway.
Read your post yesterday and told myself "Fuck it, I'm doing it TONIGHT". Once home, I started 5C on Very Easy (forever scrub) and did it on my first try. You can do it.

I now feel confident I can handle the last Kakoo Regah on Hard and 101% Hard, I just need to put this song on repeat while doing it.

The only two capsules I'm not feeling right now are the Platinum run (can I cheese that across all difficulties?) and the "get ten evade bonus". The rest feels within my grasp.

Speed Charge and Unite Charge are my current regulars, mainly because I have no idea what builds the charge meter up, and there's nothing I hate more than running around for 10 minutes waiting on the damn thing. It seems like team attacks do that, but that's not always a good option, it seems.

You can also parry the lava balls on the volcano. Funny I have the hammer equipped when I discovered it so I was like "Hey #$% you lava!"

Finished the game the other night, had a stupid grin during that whole hour of operation 009-C.
Anyone know what game is being homaged when you're controlling Platinum Robo and you grab the enemy ship as a laser gun? Spent like an hour trying to recall it last night but couldn't figure it out.

That's Space Harrier and it's way better than the hommage in Bayonetta.
We need a subsection of the OP highlighting tips and tricks like countering and taunting.
Regarding taunting, I always forget to try it out. Does it do anything to the combo counter, has it got any use?

The best thing about taunting is that it allows you to activate Unite Camp much faster than you usually can. You need to mash Y after a succesful taunt to set up the Unite Camp, it takes about a second compared to the 4-5 seconds it would normally take.

Unite Camp refills your batteries and freezes the combo meter, if you stay in Unite Camp for a bit longer it will also turbo charge your battery gauge allowing you to bust out really big weapons while that charge lasts. It's really powerful when used properly and allows you to maximize the amount of points you can get during the encounter. Combined with Taunting it's very versatile and definitely something that you should think about integrating into your game plan.

Remember you don't need to taunt to activate Unite Camp so just hold down Y for a couple seconds without moving and let your meter charge up before going into a tough mission.

Gives you a nice advantage and it only takes a couple seconds.

I need to try this. Already use Unite Camp every now and then, but not the Taunt ability.

I just finished the story mode.

My god, I'm shocked at how awesome this game is now.

I'll keep this fucking game until I die, it's one of these games that I'll treasure.

...Wow....

Hard mode tomorrow, that's for sure.

So what's the verdict guys, is it as insane as Bayonetta, or does it actually manage to go beyond the impossible and out-crazy Bayonetta?

I'll just say that Bayonetta needs to take a lot of vitamins if she want to outclass W101 with her sequel.

Beyond Bayo. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they outclass W101 with Bayo 2, it's Platinum we're talking about after all.

With Bayonetta being one of may favourite games last generation,
I still think TW101 is even more over the top and and insane than Bayonetta was. In a different way, of course, but not any less amusing.

I somehow doubt that. The scope of W101 is more grand in general. That doesn't mean that Bayo 2 won't be crazy though.

Got the guide today, and am about to finish OP 007. I'll leave it be for my NG+.

I think I'll stick with normal for fun, and try to get every collectable etc. :)

Quick question about the end of 004B:

What are you supposed to do against the tank thing when it's stunned and has an arrow pointing up the back? I kept sending people up there but nothing ever happened.

You want to use the claws to climb up!

Best way to build meter is Unite Bomb + Attack Liner, which is also why Energy Converter is so good as it converts excess meter build up into health when your meter is full.(and vice versa)

So you can heal pretty heavily off of enemies through this method as well.(Without hurting your rank) Energy Converter is pretty much the "Star of Dineta" of this game, but much less tedious to use

Wow, I didn't realize that. How does that work? Does Unite Bomb somehow give you extra unite gauge? I did notice yesterday when fighting those
teleporting dudes with the claws
that Unite Bomb + Attack Liner would do the most damage to them, but thought nothing of it.

Also, I guess I need to invest in Hero Counter and Energy converter now. I've already got Ukemi equipped (which I hardly ever use, because I don't get the timing), Dodge Mines, Hero Time, Speed Charge and Unite Charge. The only reason I use Speed Charge is because, like some people above, I'm bad at building the gauge.

I think Bayonetta 2 could outclass W101 in the crazy factor. They are probably making the game thinking that it could be the last time we see Bayonetta. With that mindset they could throw everything they got, with the kitchen sink and the entire third floor....backyard shed included.

Unite Bomb amplifies your damage within the blast radius. Now I'm not sure if energy gain is proportional to damage done or number of hits or if it is a separate thing altogether that is also amplified by bomb, but regardless the outcome is the same. You gain alot more meter for attacks done within the blast radius of unite bomb.

or maybe I could be wrong altogether and it builds at the same rate regardless of bomb. Either way bomb makes it easier to hit enemies with liner more and that builds alot of energy

I think Speed Charge is good in combination with things like Unite Charge and Hero Sense, which consume really large quantities of your bar at once, or to counterbalance the penalty of Double Power

But yeah I don't think it's as essential in this game as VFX charger in Joe. Mostly because you have much better meter options in attack liner and taunt+unite camp, and bomb is really good at enabling both of them. When I had less slots earlier on in the game that was the one I ended up getting rid of for counter, ukemi and unite charge

Finally got this game today!!!

Been looking for it since sunday and no store had it (Maybe sold out or not to many copies they had) <3

Speaking of Unite Bomb, does anyone have any advice on taking out the
claw teleporting guys
on Hard. I can do it, it just takes me forever and they do a lot of damage. I know it's something to do with Bomb, but they're not taking that much more damage after hitting them with Bomb...
