"There's Some Stuff That's Unannounced": Phil Spencer Teases Xbox Has More In Its Locker This Year

Summary
  • 2025 is shaping up to be a huge year for Xbox with games like Doom, Ninja Gaiden, and The Elder Scrolls IV.
  • Microsoft's CEO isn't concerned about Fable 4's delay, teasing unannounced games for 2025.
  • Possibilities for upcoming Xbox releases include Project Kestrel, Spyro 4, and more exciting titles.
In a new interview with Variety, in which Spencer discussed his hopes and expectations for A Minecraft Movie, the games industry veteran was questioned about the remainder of 2025 for Xbox.

"For us and the rest of this calendar year, I really feel great about the slate of games," Spencer said. "We just had 'Avowed' come out, and I have to go backwards and just say Obsidian continues to do a great job. We've obviously talked about 'The Outer Worlds 2,' 'South of Midnight,' 'Doom.' There's more stuff, some stuff that's unannounced, and I'm walking in my head to make sure I don't leak anything."

As part of 2023's massive Xbox leaks, Microsoft's Bethesda release schedule was revealed, and there are plenty of games that have still yet to see the light of day. Project Kestrel and Project Platinum were two mysterious titles slated for release in 2023/2024, and a "licensed IP game", a Ghostwire Tokyo Sequel, and Dishonored 3 were scheduled to release at some point before April 2025. It's totally plausible that Microsoft will reveal some or all of these during its summer showcase scheduled for June. Of course, a Fallout 3 remake also leaked during the 2023 leak, but that still seems like it's some time away.

There's also every possibility that we get a new Forza Horizon game at some point in the near future. The almost-four years between Forza Horizon 5 and now is the longest the series has gone without receiving a new title.

Rumors have also swirled that Spyro 4 is in development, with a partnership between Toys for Bob and Microsoft making it happen, and that Minecraft Dungeons 2 has been in the works for two years.
Whatever happens, it's an exciting year to be an Xbox fan.

No interest in any of those mentioned games besides Fallout 3 Remake, Dishonored 3, and and Oblivion Remake which would hopefully be among the unannounced ones.

I don't think we are in danger of running out of unannounced surprises this year. For me it's Square-Enix. I want FFIX remake and FFTactics remake, and would love a Triangle Strategy port to PS5/PSVR2.

The Oblivion Remake actually turning out to be real gives me even more hope that FFIX Remake is truly legit and we'll see it announced soon or something.

No one cares outside of the most fanatical zealots

People just want to game

And that too with games of different genre's. There's literally a game for everyone's tastes.
regardless of people's tribalistic takes, this is a good thing for the industry that new Ip's are being made instead of playing safe and running existing IP's into the ground.

I'd like to at least see new gameplay footage from Perfect Dark and Clockwork Revolution.

You've already written off Doom Dark Ages, correct?
Depends on how people interpret my "written off".

Is it about the game not performing amazingly well? Then yeah, that's what I'm saying.
It won't, it's a rather niche boomer shooter.

Or do people rather go by reviewscores? Because sure, it might be different then.

You did. This is what I was talking about.

So,

Halo Infinite
Starfield
Hellblade 2
Indiana Jones
Avowed
Doom The Dark Ages

What's next?
South of Midnight?

Xbox truly has become the poster-child of mediocrity.

Yes, that's what I said.

They didn't, or won't, perform amazingly well.
In case of Starfield and Halo, it's just underwhelming, even on a technical level.

23K CCU on Steam for those "amazing" games is "doing well"?

30K CCU on Steam for TLOU2 Remaster is supposedly a "flop", according to Gaf.

Which is it?

Looks like you also called Doom a AA game series and that it's niche.

Don't mind me btw. Just trying to keep up.

I said Doom is "more like an AA game". I didn't say it is an actual AA game.

But yeah, Doom is riding mostly off nostalgia among older gamers, who are becoming a smaller part of the gaming community as we grow older.

It's just the flow of time.

I love how yesterday Oblivion was nothing but a weird rumour, then the screens leaked and now it's immediately "huge for Xbox".
