This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Remember the PlayStation Vita First Edition bundle? Did the copy of Little Deviants that came with that come with a plastic case?

I installed GTA4 Episodes From Liberty City today on my PC (Windows 7) and I played it a couple times today for over an hour in total and I shut my PC off.

About 5 hours later I get back home and turn on my PC and click on Episodes From Liberty City in Steam to launch it and I get an error, the title of the popup is "EFLC" and it says "Could not write license data! Please contact Customer Support for further instructions."

I tried googling it seems to be and issue with secuROM and there seems to be a fix but its all about permissions and command line shit and I am useless when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Has anyone had this issue with GTA? Is there an easy fix?

Please help me GAF!

Sorry, never had such an issue, but it would make sense to post in the Steam thread as well.

Why did Sony swap the function of the X and O buttons outside of Japan?

In Japan, O means "yes" (affirmative) and X is "no"(negative). It's not just in the controllers but also on forms you fill out or marking tests. Also, people put their arms over their heads to form the O (as opposed to a thumbs up or making the OK symbol with thumb and index finger) or crossing their arms in front of themselves or over their head for the X.

But in America and other countries, this O and X thing isn't as prevalent. People would put a tick mark or X when filling out a form (as opposed to O ). And for most people, their right thumb would naturally rest over the X button when holding the controller.

The weird thing is that most Japanese games had the O and X function switched for Western releases, but Konami games like MGS kept it the same as the Japanese version.

Some parts of FF7 didn't recognize when you would manually change your controls, too. You had to use O to confirm no matter what in those few segments, so if you had O as "cancel/run," then it caused some irritating problems.

Is it possible to use your 3DS to read txt or html files off your SD card? Obviously the Internet Browser has the capability to read those files, but can you save them on your SD card for offline reading?

So, I'm playing hotel dusk room 215. Apparently after
you try to open the suitcase with a paper clip and fail you're supposed to see a belhop at your door. I didn't see a belhop at my door and I can't do anything. Did I do something wrong?
From what I remember you don't use the clip. You should have a pair of pliers on hand- or find them somewhere. When you do go to the entrance to your room and look for a coat hanger on the wall. You have to cut it with the pliers IN THE EXACT RIGHT SPACE (seriously this game is terribly designed) to get a wire strand that you then use to open the case.

Is there anyway I can tell between the PS+ games i've bought (at discount) and the ones that have come as part of the IGC?

Going to shop and download history and it doesn't seem to tell the difference- just that i've downloaded them :/

Look through your emails at all the 'Thank You For Your Purchase' ones and see what games you have paid money for.

Alternatively, PS+ games on your console will have an expiry date under information (Which will be the date your PS+ subscription is due to run out), games bought with a PS+ discount won't have any expiry date.

If you don't download the free games with PlayStation Plus, do they still get added to your Instant Game Collection?

Also, is there a list of all of the free games that have ever released somewhere?

No, if u add it to the cart it's part of your IGC, but if u never did, u miss out...

Yes, google it

What's the policy here on GAF regarding bumping threads? I see they're not liked a lot. But I wanted to talk about a LTTP game I just finished and there's been a thread like that started and forgotten all in the same day two weeks ago.

Maybe I won't do an LTTP thread as it would be heated
because it is Heavy Rain
, oh well.

I don't think bumping one that is a few weeks old would be frowned upon. I think the only bumps that are really frowned upon is stuff like bumping old news threads or bumping a thread just to say "I agree with this!" and not adding anything new. So as long as your bump has some content to it I think it would be fine.

You'd also be totally fine if you made a new LTTP thread.

How do I unlock Pyoro S in Warioware Smooth Moves? Everywhere just says "Play every microgame from every character". I've beaten every character a million times over...

Do I just have to randomly play every stage a million times until some rare microgame I've never seen comes up or what?

I didn't want to start a new thread for this so hopefully it can be answered here:

I have a gaming laptop that can run most of the games I throw at it. Whenever I do game, I like to be comfortable in my bed or in a sofa, which means it's pretty hard to use a mouse unless I use a hard surface to rest it on my knees, chest, whatever. I'm looking for an alternative to it (mouse), but I don't even know where to start. Should I look for a trackball that I can hold with just one hand (like I would a PS Move or Wiimote)? Should I look for a gaming controller to wirelessly connect to my laptop?

Types of games I play on my laptop: FPSs, RPGs, Action/TP, Adventure/FP. I don't play multiplayer games so I don't need the XXxXXxNoScOpE.GamEr.MoUsExXXxXX. I just need to be comfortable.

I use a wireless 360 controller for Windows and it's great for most of those genres. With an official controller you need to spend less time with configuration and you'll have the correct button prompt icons.

I'd like to play Ninja Gaiden Black but my OG Xbox freezes alot. Is Ninja Gaiden Sigma pretty much the same game, or is it dumbed down compared to the original?

This decision still makes little sense to me. The cross is generally used in the same way here, but instead of a circle we use a check. X is also used to close programs in Windows and many other OS:es.

If people in the west who're not familiar with Playstation were to guess what function was attached to what symbol, I'd bet the was majority would guess X meant no/decline/close.

Not swapping the function of the buttons would have been more convenient and logical. Also, people in the west were already familiar with the the "OK button" being to the right, due to Nintendo systems.

Can anyone help me remember the name of a forthcoming game, please? I swear I saw it last year in a thread on here (something about games coming out in 2013), but my search-fu is failing me so I can't find the original thread.

The game sounds a LOT like The Last of Us - same kind of apocalypse setting. You play a male hero, and you have the choice of taking a kid with you during the game. However I think the kid is optional (you can choose to go solo). I don't remember much else about the game except it's got an in-depth choices/consequences system, and your story will be vastly different depending on how you treat people in the game.

If anyone can think of what the title might be, it would really save my sanity. Every time I ask someone else, they swear I'm thinking of The Last of Us, but a huge part of the reason this game appealed to me when I saw it was because it didn't force you to be saddled with the kid, so it can't have been.

Thanks.

After finally picking up ME3 and finishing the Mass Effect trilogy, I went online and read BioWare's officially released stats regarding ME players.

Of everyone who played, a majority went for a basic male soldier and did not import characters across games. Worse yet, a staggering 96% of players did not play on Insanity.

My question is: is it wrong for me to want to lob some choice insults at the majority of people who play ME? I'm fine with inexperienced players playing at a basic level, but it's almost as if people miss the point of ME (making decisions as a character) when they're playing it, and worse yet, they're consistently horrible at a game series that's only difficult in a few poorly designed sections.

I wouldn't blame anyone for not playing at least ME2 on Insanity. I tried that and found that it was designed really badly. The combination of enemies being bullet sponges with some insane sharpshooting skills and you being really fragile didn't really make the game challenging, but rather forced you to play in a very specific way involving using the cover system 98% of the time.

But then again, I deeply dislike the Mass Effect series in general (which is referring to the first two games only; didn't even try the third), so don't even get me started on "choices".

As for insults and such, of course it is wrong. Different strokes etc.

Sounds like Telltale's The Walking Dead (not to be confused with the Activision game), although that game has already been released.

Can anyone help me with a Wii U trouble.

So after some long time without using the Wii U. I have take it to my bro's house and used the HDMI input cable to connect it to the tv.

I tried to apply resolution changes, but the Wii U says it is unable too.
For the record it has been able to work on this TV before (Its a Toshiba) So I don't know why it doesn't work.

When I first powered it up, the Wii U already was on 1080p, but after receiving no signal, I played around with the resolutions a bit. It did change to non-HDMI, but it doesn't seem able to change back.

Any ideas?

I'm Tine's flatmate and I don't think it's the walking dead.

Thanks. I'm certain it's not that, because it was already out when I read the thread in question. The game I'm trying to remember the name of was far more action focused, rather than a point and click adventure too. Good thinking from "choices and consequences" though!

(Really shouldn't share a PC!)

Jesus H Fucking Christ. I just installed Max Payne 3 on Steam and it's asking me to register to some fucking Rockstar Social Club bullshit. Is there any way to bypass this? I can't believe they're forcing me to get into this crap.

What does it mean when a game is going into its Beta stage? How much more work will the game take to complete?

It can me a lot of different things for a lot of different companies. Generally speaking, most of the features that are planned have been implemented, graphics are beginning to take a more final shape, and bugs are beginning to be crushed. Prior to that, a lot of people consider the alpha stage being when the game is generally completable in some form, but it may have a ton of bugs and lots of missing stuff. Others consider the alpha just the first stage of the game, it could have a level and be considered an alpha.

Lately, a lot of companies will release a "beta" shortly before release, which is basically a multiplayer test to test servers or some basic balance stuff, last minute changes really.

Just found out that the second BioShock infinite DLC just entered Beta, so I'm curious to see if the game will end up making it out in 2013. It's DLC and nowhere near a full new title, so I would imagine there is a chance.
