This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Alright dumb question here, but does anyone know if the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Stick works on a Wii? Since it connects to the Wii Mote it should act as a classic controller. Want to get one for NeoGeo VC titles, as the POS Hori Fighting Stick for Wii isn´t cutting it any more.

When your PS3 saves your save games on PSN, can you view and edit them somewhere? I just bought it at the end of May so I'm sure I'm unaware of a lot of system features yet.

My XCOM is freezing like crazy now and it's getting worse, and my user said too many save files caused it for him. I only have 3 left locally but if the game is constantly syncing with an online save archive on PSN then that could explain why my game performance and crashing is getting worse each week.

The distinction between FXAA and MLAA is the difference in techniques to eliminate aliasing or jaggies. The short answer is using FXAA is less of a performance hit but it's not as good as MLAA. Try both and look at edges to see if the quality of AA solution is worth the performance hit.

SSAO basically adds shadowing to corners and edges where things overlap to add more depth to the scene.

Tessellation is a technique that procedurally generates more detail in objects. Personally, I don't think the performance hit in both SSAO and Tessellation is worth it on my computer.

The best thing to do is just start flipping switches and see what works for you. If you don't know what to look for (because some of these changes might not be immediately apparent) just google the option to get a rough idea what exactly is changing.

I see, thank you for your assistance. Flipping switches seems like a decent enough way to tell, though to be honest, I'm having quite a hard time picking up on all the little changes. So far, the biggest impact I'd say was noticing how much cleaner things looked on PC as opposed to my PS3.

I was wondering... why does everyone go gaga over Sonic 3's Ice Cap Zone music? That was one of my least favorite tracks in the game, with me preferring the songs in Angel Island Zone, Hydrocity Zone, Launch Base Zone, Flying Battery Zone, etc.

I just don't get it. The song barely has a beat to go along to it and is also rather repetitive. There are also plenty of ice levels in the future games that, in my opinion, feature more memorable music, most notably Diamond Dust Zone in Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis).

Can I nominate this thread's question as my question?

I'm genuinely interested in some answers, but I'd rather stay away from the Cerny circlejerk (even though my post was telling enough of how I felt about the thread in particular).

You'll get better answers in a thread devoted to the question then you'll get in this thread. If you tried to make an argument instead of posting a lame animated GIF then you might get a serious response.

I definitely agree that the senior management over at Nintendo could use someone like Cerny that listens to what developers and customers want instead of just doing their own thing. They misread the market for both the 3DS and the Wii U and they still don't seem to understand what people are complaining about.

You could ask this in the Community thread and get a better answer. We don't bite.

Can you not use the Uncharted 2 unlockables (guns, ammo) in different play throughs? I completed the game on normal, but I can't use any of the guns I bought for the store on hard difficulty.

What's the point in only being able to use them on a difficulty you completed? I'm not going to do it on normal again

If they let you use the unlockable weapons on higher difficulties that you haven't beaten, it would make them too easy.

It's designed for you to go through and have fun using the unlocked weapons. Once you beat hard I think you get to use them on hard.

if i want to buy a used 360 which version of the system is the safest to buy?

i don't want to buy it and then get RROD a month later.

The latest slim model has the lowest failure rate, as with allof the latest playstation 3's.

Also, the latest 360s have a much easier to use D pad

That make sense. Got the costumes at least!

More RAM only means more textures and whatnot getting loaded, right? All over those Youtube videos of Killzone are people saying that since the PS4 has more RAM, Killzone will go from being 30 FPS to 60 FPS. Obviously that's not how it works, but since the RAM doesn't do anything to make the GPU / CPU stronger, it will only benefit the amount of stuff loaded into memory, right?

You are exactly right on all acounts, except for one thing. People aren't saying games will be faster (i.e. 60 FPS rather than 30 FPS) on PS3 because of it having more RAM (as far as I know, it doesn't even have more RAM), but because of a) said ram being much faster, and b) the CPU being faster as well.

How difficult/easy is it to move saves between PS3s? Bought a replacement for my launch 20GB (whose fan noise had become unbearable), was curious as to how to import my saves. Just swapping around a USB stick? I saw something about it in the xmb but haven't investigated yet.

Oh hey WAIT A MINUTE, the superslim has wifi? That's pretty cool. (answered my second question by looking up wikipedia)

In God of War, why does Kratos casually put his weapons on his back? Does he have a magnet on his back that lets him attach his swords? Doesn't his weapon have chains, how come they're not shown? Also where does he store his items? He wears a short with no pockets.

You can do a 1:1 transfer if you use an Ethernet cable. Then perform a system transfer under Settings.

Bought a Wii U a few months ago and borrowed a Wiimote off a friend just to see what the Nintendoland multiplayer was like, but I've ended up spending the time since working through some Wii classics.

Anyway, I feel I should give the Wiimote back and pick up a new one for myself, but have no idea what sort of price I should be paying, can you help GAF?
I'll be needing the Wii motion-plus and a nunchuk. I went into Blockbuster today and the Wiimote+ was £41, and the nunchuk another £15. That sounded ridiculously expensive, but looking online it seems they are still high price everywhere.

Are the third party controllers any good (my experience with other consoles would suggest no, but maybe Wii was different)? If so, which ones? Also, I'm guessing battery consumption is also a pretty big factor.

This looks like the real-deal, but I'm guessing from the price it's third party?

Any and all help much appreciated.

Still thinking about apologizing to Phil Fish over that crack I made on twitter where I called him a one hit wonder during his Xbox One reveal meltdown. Should I?

If it was a one-time comment months ago, he has probably already forgotten about it. The guy comes off as an asshole at times and he must be used to getting some hatred back by now.

That's true archnemesis but if it will make you feel better to apologise twinturbo2 then I see no reason not to. It's up to him how he takes it. He might be a jerk about it but if it makes you feel better then I say to do it.

How do I Dark Soul?

First you must patience, then you must good weapon. Shield up in new areas, don't get greedy and don't level up resistance. Losing souls isn't the end of the world either so don't get bummed out when you lose a lot. Take comfort in the fact that somewhere, someone has just lost hundreds of thousands of them. They're an infinite resource.

Don't be afraid to ask for help either as I'd hate for someone not to experience the game in it's entirety due to feeling like they've hit a wall.

I have two red-ring 360's an original 120gb one and a Halo Edition (green/orange) one. What can I do with these besides throw them at someone?

You could sell them for parts on ebay or if you want to get a little more creative and are into fighting games you could...

Are there any good gamepad apps for OSX like Xpadder for Windows? I've done a search and found Joystick Mapper Does anyone have experience using this? The reviews on Apple's App Store seem good; one guys says he was able to use his Dualshock 3 on his Mac. Anyone on GAF use this?

Might as well. It's been a while since I snarked and had it backfire on me when he announced the sequel.

How can anyone consider Ico, SOTC, flower, journey, etc. to be fun?

Look at it this way:

Major league AAAAAAA games are like summer blockbuster movies: lots of style, explosions, things that make you go "HOLY FUCK, LOOK AT THAT!!!", but deep down they're simple, "turn off brain and get popcorn" entertainment.

Games like flower and Journey are the opposite: You only go "damn, look at what we've been through" after you end them, because you've been soaked in subtlety and atmosphere and a certain je ne se quais that feels like you've gone through an experience.

Some of those others I could understand the question, but SOTC? That one should be pretty obvious. Even if you take out the wonderful story, presentation and music, it is a bunch of really great boss fights that should be familiar to anyone that likes video games.

If i buy diablo 2 on battlenet, do i always have to connect to battle net in order to play it? also if i do have to conenct to battlenet, once i connect, can i play it offline afterwards?

You have two modes, single player and multiplayer. You can play single player offline without ever needing to connect to the internet and if memory serves me right you can use your single player character in LAN games.

Multiplayer is the online mode, it stores all characters on the blizzard server and as soon as you push multiplayer it will ask you to log in. I believe you have to make an account with the CDkey for the game so you won't be logging in with your bnet account. You will have to make a D2 specific one.

You can never play a multi character offline.

A friend of mine finished some of them part-way through his second playthrough so I'd assume that is the case.

Why do Space Pirates, who are supposed to used various reverse engineered Samus Aran's elemental weapons, seem to use only the regular Beam Gun? Whether they wear red, purple or white armor all of them fire yellow beams. (That's in Metroid Prime).

Dumb question but Steam stops downloading games whenever you play a game right? I really want to play a game but I have a game downloading and don't want it to stop.

Yea I think so, I tried playing Single player games and hoped that would leave the download going, but I think it stops it regardless once you boot a game.

I think you can launch the game, tab out, and start the download up again manually. Not positive though.
