This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Can I use usb Headphones or usb speakers on my ps3?
I gave my mom my hdtv, so I'm sitting here with a CRT. But I do have a hdmi monitor with no built in speakers.
So can I get sound from a usb headphones or speakers that is not the expensive official ps3 stereo headphones?

I've started running my games in a borderless window recently after I had some issues with alt-tabbing and games crashing. Why is it that when running games like this I don't seem to need to use any vsync? Even when the frame rate rockets off into the hundreds there's zero screen tearing when running it in a window. How come it does that?

I am embarrassed to ask this, but I suppose this thread is the best place for that -- can you play Taiko Drum Master (the NA PS2 release) with a gamepad?

Usually USB Headphones/speaker have a soundchip build in and need a driver installed to work. That doesn't work on the PS3 except for the expensive official headset.
What you could do instead is use the Multi-AV output with the red and white cable and plug these with an adapter plug in a normal headset. Optical output would work as well, but those headsets are usually more expensive as well.
If you have a PC you could connect the Multi-AV to your PC line-in/mic input as well and tunnel the sound of the PS3 to your PC and use whatever sound system you have there.

Here's a question: we've seen a fair bit of PS4 games that support second screen experiences, and the dev always says something like 'so now your friend can hop in on their phone or tablet'. But will those second screen apps be available on Vita, as well?

Seems like it'd be a no-brainer, especially with Sony mandating that every game interact with Vita for remote play. But I've yet to see any official confirmation.

My stupid question contribution to this thread: Will F2P games negatively impact sales of software on the PS4? Considering the grindy nature of most F2P games, I can see myself devoting a lot of time into games like Warframe and Planetside 2 while ignoring some retail games.

Wow!
Thanks man, I had no idea that I could do that. Sounds like my best bet.

Space Hulk was released six months earlier and that features the original space marines.

Edit: Nope, apparently space marines appeared in fiction as early as back in 1932. The Wikipedia article is quite interesting.

So I finally got around to playing Uncharted 2 and have run into a gamebreaking glitch that Google has no results for. It's in Chapter 19, and comes after Tenzin opens a door for me. As soon as I reach this part the music cuts out. I enter the home and climb up a ladder, and once I reach the roof about half of the ground textures disappear. I fall through the ground and then cannot reload my save. I've restarted the chapter from the main menu and have created different save files. I even took the disc back to the store and had it swapped for another but this bug still occurs. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are somehow missing a trigger point. I'd recommend watching someone on youtube play that chapter from the start and see if you are doing something different enough to cause the problem.

Is Game Scoop dead? It used to be one of my favorite podcasts but then it went completely down hill when it started being audio from patched together segments. And now it doesn't update at all. :(

I was wondering if there was anything I should be looking out for when purchasing a used Wii U. The person I plan to purchase from has rebooted it and does not want to physically let me into their house (yet still meet in front of their house) so I can't really boot it up.

I guess: Are there any common problems of the Wii U I should be aware of?

Which version of RE4 should I get: Wii, PS3 HD or GameCube? What are the graphical differences?

EDIT: I'm mostly looking for a subjective opinion on graphics here & I've had the PC version for a long time.

I watched my friend play half of the REmake on Wii with a Gamecube controller and it looked awesome and was faithful to the gameplay as well. I don't know about the other versions, but the Wii version with a Gamecube controller looked perfectly fine.

A subjective opinion on graphics? erm... the HD one perhaps?

I can only speak for the Wii and GC versions, but there is no reason to get the GC version over the Wii version to my knowledge. The Wii version is based off the GC version with added motion controls and Separate Ways.

Thanks, but I was talking about RE4. REmake is indeed great on the Wii though.

Well, I read two reviews, one said the HD version looked "slightly better" and that improvement was so small it didn't really matter to the reviewer, the other said that it actually looked worse that the SD original, because you can see all the flaws and low-res textures. Went with the HD version in the end since it's on sale, quite satisfied with it.

In eyeing up an official Wii U LAN adapter. My question is, will this also be compatible with my 2011 MacBook Air, which also lacks an Ethernet port?

I posted this yesterday in the Steam thread but unless I missed it when skimming through the responses since, no-one has replied to it. So apologies for cross posting and please don't ban me! :/

... I have a question about the first Ass Creed which I picked up in the Steam sale. I just started it this evening and it has this annoying quirk of going out of full screen if I alt tab out to check my browser or get a message from someone on Steam. The only way I've found to fix it is to completely quit out of the game and start again which is hardly satisfactory. If I can't fix this I guess I'll have to turn off in game messages and not multi-task but if anyone can help that would be great.

You have of course tried pressing Alt+Enter, right? I recently played through it and it actually starts always windowed in addition to what you have, but I'd just press Alt+Enter to switch to fullscreen. That probably has something to do with my resolution being uncommon back in 2007.

1) Is it possible to back up my PS3 save files if I'm not a PS+ member?

2) What is the cheapest possible PS3 voice headset I can buy on Amazon, both wired and wireless?

1. Yes, you can back them up to an external HDD formatted in FAT32 via USB. Some saves (e.g. Demon's Souls) cannot be backed up, but you can transfer them to a new system using the transfer tool. This will delete the original copy.

I have a USB drive, but where do I go in the PS3 interface to do it?

Settings / Backup if I recall correctly. I did it a few weeks ago and it went smoothly. You might want to uninstall some game data first since it will backup everything on your system.

No, I didn't try that so thanks Tenrius. I'll give it a whirl now.

I'm a pc gaming noob. Does it show? :P

Why do Space Pirates, who are supposed to used various reverse engineered Samus Aran's elemental weapons, seem to use only the regular Beam Gun? Whether they wear red, purple or white armor all of them fire yellow beams. (That's in Metroid Prime).

I seem to recall the in game logs (series wide, not just in the first Metroid Prime) pointing out that the reverse engineering was fairly half assed. The only thing they were really successful with was creating armor that was immune to three our of four of her possible energy frequencies and would require fairly powerful, focused blasts of the one open frequency to break through.

I imagine the idea was either A) Have a troop of one color take her out before she acquires the appropriate weapon to beat them or B) toss a hodgepodge of troops at her that she can't pick them off, one weapon at a time.

Well, that makes sense, but the logbook actually mentions all of them using their respective elemental beams and says that they're vulnerable to their own weapons. Here's the exact logbook entry for the Ice Trooper, for example:

"Morphology: Ice Trooper
Space Pirate armed with Ice Beam technology.
Space Pirates have reverse-engineered several of your weapons, including the Ice Beam. A flaw in the design makes these Pirates vulnerable to their own Beam weapon system. These weapons are inferior to your Chozo-designed originals, but still quite potent."

I guess it's just an oversight after all, huh.

Doesn't this imply that the Space Pirates were actually genre-savvy enough to be aware that Samus would lose all her weapons at the start of the next mission?

A bit, but that's alright. It's a default combination for switching between fullscreen and windowed in a lot of different programs, so it's pretty useful to know even outside of gaming!

Well I've been using a pc for a decade and I never knew that. There's always something new to learn; I like that :).

I just tried it and it wasn't what I expected at all! I got some message about compatibility mode thinking I was using XP but cancelled that and was rather surprised with what happened then. I quit the game to eat but will give it another bash now.

EDIT - it worked an absolute treat :D. Alt + Enter got rid of the windowed mode seamlessly and allowed me to pop in and out of the game to go to my browser etc, just as I desired. Win! :)

I haven't had to replace a controller for any of my systems since getting the S-controller for the OG Xbox, but now I find myself urgently needing a new Dualshock 3, and a Wiimote+ and nunchuk for some Wii games I picked up for the Wii U.

What sort of prices should I be expecting to pay? They both seem pretty pricey but maybe there's a great site or store that does good deals? (wishful thinking I know)

And am I right in assuming that I should ignore any controller that is not first party?

Any help much appreciated.

So, I'm playing hotel dusk room 215. Apparently after
you try to open the suitcase with a paper clip and fail you're supposed to see a belhop at your door. I didn't see a belhop at my door and I can't do anything. Did I do something wrong?

Just switched my Wii U on and I noticed the battery light shined blue when the console was turning on. Has it always been like this? Never noticed it shining blue before. Stealth update maybe?

I'm having trouble streaming albums and songs purchased through iTunes via my 360. I have my 360 setup to stream Windows Media Player / Centre.

I've made sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre include my iTunes library folder, and the artists / albums from iTunes do show up on the 360 menu. However, when trying to play those songs on my 360, the "guide" window freezes for a bit and essentially tells me it couldn't play the track. Any tips? I'm wondering if it's something to do with the iTunes DRM.

Was there an announcement of the ability to purchase and sell pre-owned digital video games on XBone or PS4? or I'm dreaming? A friend of mine says there was, but I can't find anything about it.

You're dreaming. And your friend is making the claim, the burden of proof is with them to prove it.

EDIT: This is a good episode of Extra Creditz that covers some of the problems, and solutions to having such a system.
