This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

If you use the backup utility it's fairly simple but the transfer is really slow. You need a FAT32 formatted external HDD. If you're a PS+ subscriber you could use the cloud save system instead. For me it would be faster to delete all the old games before doing the transfer and then download everything again on the new system.

Thanks. I'll probably pick up a slim for cheap sometime this year

Couple questions:

Would it be worth getting a PS3 for primarily playing Blurays and playing the few games I'm interested in on it? (I have no interest in a PS4 atm)

I have several PS2 games, but my PS2 is broken (disks won't read and neither of my controllers respond with several of the buttons), would it be better to fix my PS2 or get one of the PS3 models that's backwards compatible with PS2 games?

Depends entirely on how many PS3 games you're interested in but I would say yes. Especially if you get a used one for cheaps. The PS3 is a great Blu-ray player as well as netflix player [although you can get blu-ray players dirt cheap now ~100 USD etc.]

Hmm I've had no real issues with PS2 BC on my phat PS3 but I have only tried maybe 2 dozen games. I would probably look into getting another PS2 if there are a lot of PS2 games you want to play. Think fixing PS2's is more hassle than it's worth? But not clear on that last part

I have several games in my PS2 collection that doesn't like my PS3's BC mode (European launch 60 GB). Since I don't want to do research on every game I want to play I simply use my PS2 slim (modded so it's region free) or an emulator (upscaling, save states, and fast forward).

I wouldn't dabble with getting a BC PS3 nowadays, that was a long time ago and hardware isn't immortal. I'd get a PS2 slim in your situation. On mobile so I can't search/link it, but sony has an official site that lists any technical issues with PS3 BC so you can search that to see if any of your specific titles have problems.

My wife wants to get an Xbox 360 for the Kinect dancing games.

1. Is the 4GB version ok? Do I really need to get a 250GB one?

2. Do i have to pay for Xbox live? She just wants to play dance plays offline.

3. Is there a bundle with dance/work out games? Amazon has one that's got kinect sports and adventures for $250. good deal?

I can't get the DmC turbo mod to work on my steam copy, I followed the instructions in the text file of V1.1 but nothing happens when I press alt+F10 or any other combinations, also I can't get the remap devil trigger and gun special changes to the devilinput.ini to work (its a controller remap by SamD which he posted on steam fourms or something) again, nothing changes.

Backup question! How can I back up Xbox 360 saves to a computer and how can I restore them to the 360? I have all my saves on a USB stick already, but I want to back that up to my PC incase I lose the USB stick. Is it possible to back up the USB stick to a PC and copy/clone it to a new stick if the original is ever lost? If so, instructions on this? Can I back up my profile as well?

So I found something that is supposed to let me back up 360 saves on a USB stick to my PC, but I have no idea if its reputable or not, and I'm leaning toward not because I can only find a download link on a torrent site. So, any other ideas on this?

1. Yes, you can get away with a 4GB 360 E, but you're going to need to have either a 32 GB+ flash drive or external hard drive to plug into it, since 4GB is not going to be enough for even a single mandatory game install.

2. All new 360s come with a free month of XBL, but for some game modes, like Just Dance World Stage (Battle friends and randoms around the world), you're going to need it. If you're just playing offline though, you're good.

3. It's a good deal. The Xbox with 2 bundled games, Just Dance 2014, and Kinect would run you for about $270, which is a decent savings considering the Kinect+Adventures costs $90 by itself.

Now onto my own question!

The Last of Us. I'm finally getting ready to buy after so long, now I'm just thinking of what format should I buy it in.

So, GAF, physical or digital? The Digital TLoU + Season Pass goes for about $55 on Amazon, an $8 savings over if I just bought the Physical+SP separately. However, that also means:

1. It's resale value is essentially $0
2. I've never been comfortable with digitally buying AAA titles. Indies and games on sale are OK, but games over $20 make me apprehensive
3. I don't get to hold it in my hand, which is the best feeling ever

But I do save $8. What do you think, GAF? I'm leaning physical, but I want to hear more opinions from people that buy their games digitally and what they think about it.

One consideration is that the digital download is absolutely massive (20+ gigs). I don't think there are any significant loading time advantages to having it digitally. You could possibly not like it and want to sell it, but the digital version has no resell value. I'd personally go with the physical disc.

Physical. There's always the possibility that you won't like it and $8 savings isn't really all that much. If it was something like $15 dollar savings then yea I would recommend digital.

Thanks dude

So, I'm giving my friend my old fat 80 GB PS3 since I now have a slim 250 GB. I already transfered everything over (which I believe wipes the old copies) and deactivated it. My question is, if I re-activate it under my account at their house, are they still able to download and play any of the games I bought digitally? I ask because I'm not sure if the PS system rules set for the PS4 affects the PS3 rule of two systems per account.

FYI, I don't consider it shady as I bought both systems and I should be able to give one to a friend if I want.

I have lots of games with fingerprints. How do I get rid of these without scratching the disc. I need what goo gone does for cases for discs :(

In the game Legend of Zelda: Ocrina of time for Nintendo 64, I rememberer going into a village and talking to a kid who asked.... Give me something shinny with the A button. What the fuck did he want? I never found out.

Hmm pretty sure there was a guy in karariko village that you could sell bugs and fish that you caught to

What games on the ps3 require the move and navigation controller in their co-op game modes? and is the dualshock 3 a viable substitute to the navigation controller?

Will DDR3 / DDR4 system RAM be usable as additional VRAM anytime soon / would it require something like Xbox One's esram for that to be a thing because of latency?

How many PC games out there have native gamepad command mapping? I know Halo PC does, because I installed it recently for some nostalgia, but I haven't seen a lot of PC games do so afterwards. The most you get is a selection of control layouts unless you use Pinnacle or another gamepad support software.

I use a Xbox wireless PC receiver and a Xbox 360 wireless controller and pretty much every game I've played maps the controller layout automatically by itself.

I think that only works though because it's a Xbox 360 controller. I don't know if this will work with other brands of controllers.

So if peach and Mario had a baby, what would they name the baby?

March.

There are a fair few. In my experience, most games that let you remap bindings by listening for input will pick up gamepad data. Some will list bindings as "button 1" instead of (A) or similar iconography, so it's not always the most transparent, but it gets the job done.

I deleted a game I downloaded to make room for another game and I found that it deletes the whole game along with saves and what not. How do I back up my game saves and stuff in case I need to delete a game or move to a different memory card.

If I buy the 'Golden Pack' dlc for Fire Emblem: Awakening will that ruin the game for me? I just started playing and opened up the option for the dlc maps.

I personally like to have an option to gain a little more money but I don't want to ruin the experience.

You can copy it to a PC or PS3 using the Content Manager (but you have to copy the whole game) or you can upload your save if you have PS+.

Long story short: How do I force resolutions in Steam games via an outside method?

I was playing Orcs Must Die 2 and tried supersampling just for shits-n-giggles.
The game ran perfectly fine for hours. I could alt+tab, even, which usually messes up supersampled games.
I did NOT set the resolution back to 1920x1080 before quitting the game, so it saved the supersampled resolution.

Now that I'm trying to play it again, it won't work. The screen goes black, I can hear the sounds from the splash screen (though it sounds like it's at about 2 frames per second), and the screen is really flickery.
If I press escape to skip the splash screen, it goes to an entirely black screen and I can see the cursor, but that's it.

I need to get it back to 1080p or smaller in order to play.

I've tried:
* Uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
* "-width<1920>-height<1080>" in the launch options.
* "-safe" in the launch options.
* Verifying game cache. NOTE: I do get the "failed to validate and will be reacquired" message, but nothing happens after.
* All of the above with a PC restart in between.

Everything else runs just fine. I know it's a problem with resolution, but I have no idea how to change it back to default.
Various Googling has mentioned a custom user.cfg file, but I don't know how to set a resolution via a cfg file, or if it's even supported by this game.

EDIT: Nevermind! I figured out a method.
I disabled all custom resolutions, restarted the computer, then tried the game, and it worked.

Gonna leave this post here, just in case anybody else ever runs across the same issue.

Okay this is gonna be a really weird question, but whatevs.

About an hour ago, I walked by my 3DS and saw that the light on it was shining. No big deal, right? But here's the thing - the system wasn't even on, it wasn't plugged in, and the light was the orange light for when it's charging.

Obviously I turned the system on then off and that caused the light to turn off, but why was it on in the first place? The system was off and was nowhere near the charger.

Oh and the 3DS was in the Circle Pad Pro, if that helps at all.

In a recent-ish episode of ... Weekend Confirmed? ... a new Alien PC was discussed where the internal components would be color coded and easily pluggable and replaceable and there's even talk of having a subscription service for the components. Does anyone know the proposed name of the model of this PC or have any more details? Is it coming out within the next year?

Are you sure you're not thinking of Razer's new modular PC "Project Christine"?

tYNnUGL.jpg

Either way it's sounds like a terrible idea. Computer components are already easy to put together and replace. I understand the appeal of buying a pre-built machine if you don't want to learn any technical details, but paying a premium for Alienware parts seems like a waste of money to me.

Do you think we'll ever see ps4 and one games in a redbox machine?

Yes

http://www.redbox.com/browse/ps4-games

As of nov. 14th, 2013

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/s..._Xbox_One_Disc_Rentals_in_Select_Cities/13104

From Redbox, "We’re already carrying Wii U games in select cities, and starting sometime in November or December, we’ll also start carrying PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games in a handful of cities to see how customers like them and decide if we should carry the games in other towns."

:)

If there is I haven't found out how to do it. That's how I turn it off too.
Holding down the guide button will bring up a menu with the option's to turn of the control, console or go back. That's the only way I know of turning off other than dropping it or unplugging the batteries.

Is there any way for me to play Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 without having to disable my internet connection?

When I am connected online, it gets stuck at "Checking DLC." I followed the steps that EA recommended and tuned off my internet connection and disabled the two online options in the game. Turned my internet connection back on and was successful at getting into the game ONCE. Since then it has gotten stuck at Checking DLC every time my internet connection is enabled. So I have to disable my connection every time I want to play. The two online options in the game are still disabled. I have tried re-enabling them and turning them off again. Nothing.
