This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I am looking for a way to whiten my Dreamcast again. Through the years, the plastics have taken a sickly yellowish hue. How can I restore them to glorious white? With alcohol maybe? I don't want to use something that will melt the plastic!

The strange thing is that the modem has remained sparkly white like day 1! It looks really out of place now.

I'd check this out - it's a paste you can make that reverses the yellowing:

Not sure about the first question, but just about any USB controller will work with Scott and X-Men.

Oh, I think I misread your question. Although this is the first I've heard about Scott having issues with USB controllers.

I'm like 99% sure there's no way to buy or install PS3 PSN games without a PS3 connected to the PSN. So this will give you some time to come to your senses about buying X-Men Arcade. :P

Slim 360s are RROD-proof because they don't have rings. :P

I don't own the ps3 .... it is a friend of mine who is ADDICTED to retro games ... he loves everything that is at least 2 generations below .... so a 6 player couch coop retro beat em up is like heaven for him .... even if it is a Superman64 mod =P

Is there anywhere online where I can buy 20 ms points?

Again, I don't own the 360, but some friends that do say they did got some from a site some time ago since microsoft only start legaly selling then on my country some months ago.

But it was something along the lines of someone buys and emails you the code .... so i'm not exactly sure how safe that kinda thing is =P

Is there some way to easily identify which Sega AC adapters go with which units (Genesis Model 1, 2, 3 / Sega CD / Sega 32X / GameGear / Nomad), without having the systems handy to plug them into and turn them on? Sometimes I find even AC adapters that have different Volts/Amperage will still work on the same system. Is there like, a site with pictures or a list somewhere online I can look at?

Alright, my cousin's offering me an Xbox 360 for free, but here's the catch: it's died multiple times and it is the 360 model that existed prior to the Jasper models.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth?

The price is right.

How much space does a PS3 Slim need in terms of ventilation? I'm planning on getting one soon, but it will likely go into a relatively enclosed space with about one to two inches of overhead clearance, a few inches on each side, and an open back. Will that cause any problems?

Why are there 4 threads (3 in gaming,1 in Community) for Portal 2 alone ?

Seems silly to me and could be contained to 2 threads max.

2nd Question:

Hows the online for CoD4 on the Xbox 360?

I have a few spare bucks in my paypal account and want a Call of Duty game off of ebay and I'm sure could find CoD for cheap.

quick question

i have a number of xbox 360 codes, like dlc costumes, xbla games, etc that i want to sell/give away, if i enter them on the xbox live redeem code and they are still valid, would it be used and there for not good to trade/give away anymore?

Hey guys,

i'm at my sisters house and her son has to install updates for games everytime he plays something, even if the update has been installed before. changing games is also a guarantee to install an update even though the game could have been played just earlier.

hard drive is in, any suggestions?

As soon as you redeem the code it counts as used and is tied to your account.

Have any RPGs existed with the option to choose between a random battle system (like Pokemon) or a system where you can see the enemies before battles (like DQIX?) If so, which? If not, is there a reason why not that I'm missing?

If you've built a game design where you can see the monsters on the field... what sense would it make to be able to toggle that off? Almost no one is going to opt for not seeing the monsters. Most would never bother to implement the option.

Games where you don't see the monsters are very easy to implement... just randomly generate monster attacks. No monster locations are preset. If you've taken time to preset the locations of the monsters on the overworld... then you've done it the hard way, and you might as well show the monsters that you've taken time to impliment at specific locations.

"Invisible" preset monsters also wouldn't be the same thing as "random" monster attacks. And if they gave the option of two modes that generate monsters in different ways, the balance of the two modes would be completely different. (ie the "random" monster game would let you gain experience far more easily than rooms of preset monster locations).

I suppose you COULD design a game that has both... but that sounds ultra nichey. And ultra-difficult to implement. Why bother? Just show your monsters.

I know I'm a bad person for even caring after all this time, but my inner child still does. So, is there actually a way to revive Aries in FFVII, or was there supposed to be a way that was cut from the game?

I've long since gotten over the initial sheer reverence I felt for FFVII upon release, and I'm not going to go back and play it one way or the other. But the other day it all just popped back into my head out of nowhere, and I decided to google it, just to see. What I found was shockingly similar to shit I heard in the 90s, with everyone knowing the "real," extremely complicated and convoluted way to revive Aries, which was of course different from what everyone else thought.

The most believable thing I read was that it was supposed to be a quest that was cut from the game. Much of this quest was already completed, but when it was cut, only the initial key item (which flags the quest) was pulled, leaving some other remnants behind (like the ghost in the church, and the Aries data on disc 2 and 3).

The "ghost" in the church is just a stupid bug. There's no way to revive Aerith.

I hate that bug. It just served to intensify there rumours. :P

The cache memory for updates is probably full. A clean-up with the "secret" button combination in options should erase every update, making sure all games boot up on a clean slate. This should ensure that only ONE update needs to be downloaded for game X.

patches get saved in a special part of the hdd, maybe it needs to be defragged or something.

Check google for the cache button combo, all patches currently installed will be lost but it might bring back the whole 'seven games before patch reinstall' thing.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Know of any videos?
Actually Kenny, you're quite wrong xD I found a perfect playthrough on youtube (just spent a few hours downloading 6+ hours of youtube content, about 10 gigs) and he/she managed to get to lvl 50 from lvl 1 and save everyone in one go. It was glorious ^^ Of course, a complete Dead Rising newb would never be able to do that without a guide, but it's definitely possible, both in theory and practice, apparently.

Gaf, my PS2 phat is having some issues reading some games that I bought with gamestops b2g2 sale. The discs don't look bad at all, but my ps2 will blink "Reading disc ..." at the bottom, but then nothing. No disc read error message appears, it jut stops blinking and all i see are my memory cards. However, some games do work. Any way I can tweak the ps2 or are my games likely bad?

Please note that I've never opened a console before so technical jargon may go over my head if not explained..

I don't know about that sale and you are not taking the console back to the shop, so i am assuming it does have no warranty and the console is used. My own PS2 had similiar problems sometimes. All i did was to take it to a console repair shop and get its lens cleaned. One particular one worked for 5 years. In 5 years i had its lens cleaned 2 times. Played hundreds of games on it and had no problem. I don't know and its not possible for me to know if its drive is dying or not but the solution i told is cheap and effective. Worths a shot i think.

I don't know if anyone would know this question, but would Take 2 have to greenlight Rockstar and 2k games or is that up to each company individually?

Seda, these discs you're having trouble playing: are their undersides silver or blue in color?

Playback of "Blue" games (games pressed as CD-ROMs) and CD-Audio playback are the first features to stop working on PS2 Phats.

EDIT: Also, somebody please answer my Sega AC Adapter question earlier on the page. Thanks! :)

Alright, so I put in Kingdom Hearts 2 last night to watch this on my PS3:

http://www.cellsea.com/video/detail/V4a0f895f59d6a.htm

and it looked incredible, which leads nme to ask, does the PS3 emulation automatically upconvert PS2 CGI in HD? It seriously almost looked like Blu Ray quality.

There's only so much data in a video file; it's probably more that the last time you saw it was on the PS2 with a shitty video lead. What quality is there is much more evident on a PS3 over HDMI.

Almost makes me want to pop more PS2 games into my PS3. That was one of the first times I've put a PS2 game into it, since I've been playing new stuff constantly. I was just amazed at how it looked. I'm definately going to have to put in FF 10, 10x2 and 12 into it and watched th opening CG and see what it looks like.

What I wanna know is, recommended system requirements for game, what settings are they recommended for? For running game smoothly but on what, low, medium, high?

PS3 question:

I have 5 arcade sticks, 2 wireless and 3 wired. Since the PS3 has only 2 USB ports, is it possible to connect an USB hub with 4 ports so I can use all the arcade sticks at once?
